UPND President Hakainde Hichilema arrived in Mulobezi constituency on Saturday night from Petauke on his campaign trail for the 30th June By Elections.The UPND president is his signature style interacted with local residents and later accepted an invitation to stay in the hut of one of the residents.
Mr.Hichilema said he was greatly humbled by Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Maome for providing them accommodation in Mulobezi and described them as such a typical and humble Zambian family.
The Mulobezi by-elections are as a result of the June 2013 Supreme Court’s decision to nullify the Mulobezi Parliamentary seat which was held by United Party for National Development (UPND) Member of Parliament Hastings Sililo in Western Province on grounds that his election was characterized with corrupt activities.Supreme Court Judge Elizabeth Muyovwe said blanket and mattress donations that took place in Mulobezi were done prior to the election date and therefore counted as electoral malpractice.
The PF government has spent over K 200 million to organise 11 Parliamentary and Local Government by elections since October 2011.This has been described as wasteful and a poor use of financial resources in a poor economy like Zambia which already has a budget deficit.

It took a lot of humility for a person like HH to accept the invitation and be accommodated in such a house. Even myself with my current moderate standard (neither rich nor poor) may find it very difficult to spend a night there.

I’m aware of political gimmicks by politicians, some go as far as abandoning the presidential motorcade and ride on a public bus.
However, this will not preclude us from giving credit where it is due. The action may have political connotations but the fact still stands- he humbled himself!

A humble citizen invites you to their homestead instead you decline or because of who people take you to be in society they expect that you decline because you belong to a certain class and should not lower yourself! Chiluba (MHSRIP) once stopped his motorcade to buy roasted tute by the road side some were critical of his decision as though he had no origins that he identified himself with!

Zambians are the most baffling of the human species. Hakainde spends a night at the invitation of a local resident of Mulobezi, they say he is no good and would never vote for him. He flies in choppers, they say he is not humble and “infintu ni Lungu”. Kind of similar to what Jesus said and I paraphrase “John came neither drinking nor eating and they said, behold a demon-possessed man; Jesus came drinking and eating with them and them say, behold a wine biber (from imbibe) and a friend of sinners”.

In the end it’s just tribe that matters. We were informed before elections that Lungu is sick for example. And now that it has been proved that he indeed is sick, the same tribalists have come up with all sorts of excuses in support of Lungu. You will hear them say ‘we don’t discriminate against the sick so ifwe ni Lungu fye come 2016’. ‘We will pray for him’ etc. And as you have rightly observed, I have heard some say ‘the people of Zambia believe in simplicity, and that is to trust a simple man Edgar Lungu’. Arithmetically speaking, spending so much money on a by-election for an MP who will represent a constituency for just one year yet it has remained unrepresented for two years does not add up. A period of two unrepresented years is too long and does not potray equal representation. Notwithstanding, may the best man/woman win in tomorrow’s (free and fair) by-elections.

This is truly humbling of HH. Lunga was wasting national resources at Sun Hotel apparently owned by HH. And Lungu went with 6 ZAF choppers plus more 40 presidential motorcade.

Most contracts were given to Chinese companies who wired the money back to China without ZRA taxing a single cent.

there is constituency development fund and its given to all mps whether in the ruling party or opposition party. We said NO to one party so whats wrong with people voting for UPND, its their choice anyone has the right to belong to a political party of his or her choice.
HH photos are all fine but one. Look at the last one….he looked right at the camera to get a photo and show the masses that he’s humble. Humbleness should not be shown (try to prove), it should come naturally and that last HH picture does not at any close show humbleness. I like the man, but he’s not a politician. HH should have concentrated on business and become Zambia’s Dangote or Patrice Motsepe and offer checks, balances and aid to the govt.

The UPND leader could be rich but what has he done even in Southern province as part of his social corporate responsibility to demonstrate the fact that he is a pro poor man ? The people of Southern province do not expect handouts from anybody, they are capable of taking care of themselves, most of them are quite comfortable. But like most Zambians or indeed any other people on this planet, they too require an enabling environment for economic development and growth. That is their cry period.

When one offers you food, no matter how bad the food is, it is courtesy to accept and at least eat a bit. And the same applies to accomodation so there is no political gimmick here and besides Mulobezi is already a UPND stronghold. HH did well to accept the offer of accomodation from a poor family and I am sure he will return a favour by helping this family somehow.
