Zambian Woman dies in India after drugs burst in her stomach

Share

A Zambian woman has died in India after two capsules of unknown drugs burst in her stomach.

Keltha Twala, a female Zambian national, died on 29th June 2015 at GND hospital in Amritsar, Punjab State in India after two of the 50 unknown drugs she had swallowed burst in her stomach.

Twala, who was first discovered sick at the Indian border to Pakistan, was on her way to Pakistan from New Delhi, India before meeting her death.

During a postmortem, a total of 50 capsules were found in her body while forty-five (45) capsules were found in her stomach and five (05) were discovered in the rectum.

However, the Indian Narcotics Control Bureau is yet to establish the type of drug contained in the capsules.

This is according to a press statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka yesterday by the Drug Enforcement Commission Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo.

Ms Katongo also said the Zambian Mission in New Delhi is trying to verify reports of the arrest of another female Zambian, Catherine Mulenga at Indira Ghandi International Airport for being in possession of a drug called methaqualone worth over US$30,000.

She said following such reports, the Drug Enforcement Commission would like to caution members of the public especially women on the dangers of being used as couriers by foreign nationals.

“Such trends risk damaging the image of the country in the eyes of the international community and Zambians risk being subjected to high security searches when travelling abroad,” she warned.

Ms Katongo said that the Commission further appeals to members of the public on the need to safeguard the image of the country by developing their lives, communities and identities without drugs.

  1. Sad. Really sad. The Zambian slowly but surely taking stride in the Nigerian footsteps. Corruption, drugs etc. All these were unZambian but not anymore

    • Just know that there is a flithy Nigerian somehow involved in this. No way these ladies can just get up and travel to India from the blues, this requires detailed planning which these flithy Nigerians do as they have connections in the heroine trade. And useless hopeless DEC are busy arresting grandmothers for selling 2 balls of dobo and yet our young ladies are being used as mules and are dying in India, disband DEC they are not fit for purpose let the Zambia Police and Interpol handle such matters.

    • It is no coincidence that it is in India they are being arrested, it is Indians doing the drug running. DEC, stop being corrupt and investigate who gave them the money to travel and you will find a well established Indian drug ring. No one in this corrupt PF seems able to touch Indians, be it immigration or DEC

    • Unzambian? Really? I seem to remember the days of Zambia Airways and when most of the crew ended up in prisons in England for drug trafficking, mandrax those days. Zambians love quick bucks and drugs offer that. The consequences though are what we are seeing. Nothing new under the sun.

    • THEY ARE THE CHAPS WHO SEND THEM. SHE DID NOT TREASURE HER LIFE. ZAMBIAN WOMEN ARE INSTRUCTED TO DO ANYTHING BY THESE GUYS.

    • Bakashana too materialistic! Aim to have a quality life with education and good health. Don’t get carried away with foreign men, fast money, brazilian weave and cheap stilettos.

  2. I’m doing an MSc in Bristol, here in the UK.
I went home to Mumbai last spring. I found that my wife Geeta has numerous African students (from Mali/Senegal/Chad/South Sudan) as friends. One weekend, we had a party with the students. She made potato chips and laced it with narcotics. I asked her where she got the drugs, she said that Zambian and Tanzanian women bring and sell at Crawford Market there in Mumbai, their customers being predominantly call center workers.

  3. Secession from Bemba/Nyanja speaking N/Eastern Rhodesia is the only solution. We the pipo from N/Western Rhodesia are being embarrased by these foonkens.

It was a huge mistake for the British to merge N/W & N/E Rhodesia, period

    • I am pleased young people know what North Western Rhodesia/Barotseland is compared to North Eastern Rhodesia.

Western, Soli/Lenje/lamba lands, Northwest and Southern make up NWR/Barotse.

  4. Zambian women you are embarrassing us. You like luxury that you don’t want to work for; Brazilian hair, smart phones, cars……. Just start taking them to the firing squad like they do in Singapore and other countries

  5. Some zed girls are a disgrace. They are weak and will do anything for money.

I am looking for a wife, preferably Zambian….but to be honest, this generation of zed girls is challenging.

Any good honest zed girls out there????

    • What do you mean single woman? I am just saying I am looking for someone as honest as I am.

Yes there are some good men from zed. I am simply looking for the same in a zed girl.

So if interested or you know someone, say so. But make sure you or they are not rubbish chancers.

    • Genesis 2:24

That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
Do not limit yourself, thee are beautiful women from everywhere. In some countries they do not even traffic drugs.

  6. @Basket mouth and Marie- Annee, tribalism will kill you!! Drug trafficking is scourge that has been growing since 1980s. It started with foreigners in league with some prominent non-Bemba politicians among them VJ and Sikota Wina (Muhamad Hussein, you can find out how that name came up). Why did KK nickname MMD as Movement for Mandrax Dealers in its early days? It is coz of these two people who had been part of the founding team and played a role in growing the drug trafficking scourge in Zambia.Even some if not most of the mules that were working Zambia Airways were linked to rings operated by these people among them were a good number of Lozi speaking persons. So,be real and propose solutions instead of being tribal!

  7. Nubian Princess, my thoughts exactly. Young women are too materialistic! They are not educated because they have no regard for education!bale, one anasambilila leaving well and they want a piece of the pie. Then they go into drugs after promises from drug dealers. Sad really!

  8. Most of these masquerade as Zambians to evade scrutiny. our immigration department has flashed passports to all sorts of characters due to corruption. Twala is not a Zambian name.

  9. Why are people saying Nigerians are involved? Why not Russians or South Africans or Indians etc… Even Zambians consume and sell drugs – We are not so innocent. Stop involving other nationalities, how ignorant can you be?
