Labour movement calls for transfers in civil service to curb tribalism

Share

The labour movement has called on government to promote inter-provincial transfers among government workers if the country is to curb tribalism in the country.

Civil Servants and Allied Workers Union of Zambia (CSAWUZ) President, Davy Chiyobe, made a call yesterday during the opening of a 3-day (CSAWUZ) Northern Provincial conference which is taking place in Kasama.

Mr. Chiyobe observed that tribalism is slowly getting to its roots in many public offices, a trend he described as retrogressive to the development of the country.

He noted that in the past such issues were not being entertained especially among the working places.

The Union Leader stated that inter-provincial transfers especially in the civil service must be encouraged so that government officers can have an opportunity to appreciate different cultural diversity prevailing in the nation.

Mr. Chiyobe has since called for unity and love in the country through the restoration of the One Zambia, One nation’ motto.

And speaking at the same function, Northern Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Boniface Mbuzi praised the role the labour movement has played in the promotion of social justice and equality among public service workers in the country.

Mr. Mbuzi revealed that government considers trade unions as critical partners in national development.

He urged labour leaders to always seek dialogue with employers when negotiating for better conditions of service for public and private sector workers in the country.

  1. Good observation; but who will take such observation seriously when all our supervising civil servants are in the self preservation mode?

  2. What do you expect when almost all GRZ houses have been sold? You end up with workers only being transferred from one station to another in the same district! Have you not heard of officers refusing to be transferred because they have just started building their house?

    • Good observation indeed. This was done in the UNIP govt, and worked well. Next, abolish the so called ”district boards” of nonsense, in all ministries. These are conduits of corruption and inefficiency.

  3. This is a very welcome idea. KK managed to control tribalism to a large extent because civil servants would be transferred from one province to another. I know of a school in Senanga district of western province where a deputy head teacher has been at a school for 27 years and a head teacher at the same school who has been there for 10 years! The result has been the abuse of Authority and resources with impunity by these two men in authority. Can the govt effect some changes in the civil service please. The two men mentioned above now behave like small gods in the district.

  4. It will also help if ALL leaders stop issuing inflammatory tribal statements and people stop judging ones ability on tribe. Its actually a cheaper and immediate solution while you wait for transfers

  5. Mama wins please save this country and your party. Step aside and advise lungu who should replace you madam. We need pipo like luo Nkandu, masebo, siliya , lucky mulusa and Kambwili. We need cobras to work with a human being lungu.

  6. U labour leaders, can u finish the negotiations with the grz For better condition of service. The cost of living is high.
