Collins Mbesuma was on the winning side on Tuesday evening at Mbombela when 10-man Mpumalanga Black Aces beat Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0.
The match pitted Mbesuma in attack for Aces and goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene for the losing visitors.
Both players are part of the 13-member team of foreign-based players George Lwandamina has summoned for Zambia’s 2017 Africa Cup Group E qualifier away to Kenya on September 6 in Nairobi.
Mweene was at the center of the lone goal when he was beaten from a corner in the 37th minute.
However, Mweene redeemed himself in the 81st minute against the run of play after some poor defending by his backline before making a brave save from point-blank range to deny Tshidiso Tukwane.
Meanwhile, Mbesuma’s day lasted just 57 minutes after Aces lost pace in front after Aubrey Ngoma was sacrificed following goalkeeper Jackson Mabobkgwane’s red card in the 45th minute.
Mbesuma, though, did have two chances from a first half shot and second half header going marginally wide.
Just 1-0, then Mweene is back in form. Congratulations.
Ba Nostradamus naimwe. Vonse ni ku commenta. Sometimes just sit.
Please call the experienced players including Chris Katongo. It was literally humiliating watching the Chipolopolo team in Equatorial Guinea last Afcon. Remove all those young stars, they still need a lot of experience. You may include one or two, but not almost the whole team of inexperienced playres like in the last Afcon.
Mweene was in very good form. His defence was to blame for spectating for the lone goal
The same Mbesuma who is missing clear chances has been called for the national team
I believe Katongo is better than Mbesuma.
