Medical doctors at the University of Teaching Hospital have gone on strike.

This is according to a memorandum dated 01 September 2015 signed by Resident Doctors Association UTH branch Secretary Dr Mtonga Matolase and UTH President Dr Cyrus Phiri addressed to UTH Senior Medical Superintendent.

Doctors at UTH resolved to join the sit in protest by the Registrar at the institution after a meeting with Health Permanent Secretary General Davy Chikamata Tuesday afternoon.

Dr Matolase said the junior doctors at the highest referral health institution in the country are aggrieved by the unpaid settling-in allowances.

He said the doctors are also not happy with the incomplete payment of settling-in allowances.
Dr Matolase said Government owes junior doctors in unpaid arrears.

Dr Matolase also disclosed that the junior doctors are aggrieved due to delayed placement of new doctors.

He said the sit-in protest will continue in conjunction with the one by the Registrars until all issues are resolved.

  1. Go on strike! Why should I care?

I have all my free medical treatment in South Africa, paid for by the taxpayers.

It is just these stupid Zambians that voted for me that will suffer.

    I don’t care!

    • UNZA trained doctors do not qualify to practice medicine, that’s why they can even go on strike. They are unethical and the equivalent of a nurse practitioner!

    • Even when I die I will be buried at Embassy park ,where as you common people will be taken to chingwere.I have a retirement package which includes a mansion,so my wife Easter Lungu will never suffer. So I don’t care. Its a pity you foolish Zambians especially my cousins the( Bembas )and (Tu Batubulu) short people of Luapula voted for me even if I said I have no vision.Any way I will remember you in your suffering since its your choice.

    • I don’t care even if these unqualified doctors go on strike. I know for sure that Zambian tax payer can not allow me to be treated by these UTH doctors, i am a most VIP person in this country and so i am treated by 5 star hospitals and clinics of South Africa not this smelling hospital called UTH which has no functioning elevators and too much conjested with poor sick people. Me and my family our hospitals are abroad. When I die zambian tax payers will continue taking care of my dead body by bulding a mansion of a grave next to cabinet office and i will have 24/7 security. Plus my family will never suffer again as they will be entitled to a mega salary everymonth as long as they are alive. I had no vision but you gave me presidential power. Idi0ts

    • In April my aunt was admitted to UTH and there was no doctor to see her. She stayed for 2.5 weeks before Dr could see her.when Dr came to see her he said the operation can not be done at Uth because of waiting list bra bra bra but i know a clinic where I can do it. You will need to pay k15000. Very sad moment and we could not afford it and aunt died.
These UTH Drs are just after money nowadays and it is a sad situation at UTH. I was disappointed to see UTH almost cried to see how we are suffering at UTH. This UTH is no longer a hospital but a hospice where you go and die. Those wards of poor people who can not afford a fee paying is like a prison. A ward meant for 6 people had about 20 people. This is true people go to ward C. It is sad yet outside we have malls.

  2. Doctors; we feel for you the way you feel for us when we are admitted in your wards. You do your best for us to get better quickly. Our feeling are mutual in your situation, hope the government pays you your dues quickly, without bwana Kambwili threatening you with dismissals.
However, we have been informed by the Secretary to the Treasury that you will have salary increments in the election year, next year. What he has not said, is how this would possible when he can not pay you your dues at the current low salary rates. Another 90 days promise? That is your government at work!

  3. …is this what Nawakwi referred to when she challenged the govt to disclose the source of funding for first lady’s unbudgeted errands….dishing out gifts all over the country side….so part of the money she is using was meant for doctors’ allowances..??

    • No it’s not!! Nawakwi and FTJ fired 200 doctors in 2000 when she was minister, just because the poor docs demanded their entitlements. This act by Nawakwi and FTJ was unprecedented in Zambian history.

  4. The 300 THOUSAND US Dollars that Kaseba has used JUST FOR HER HOUSING could have paid ALL these allowances and there would be money left over!

The amount of public money spent on Satas MEDICAL TOURISIM and the PRIVATE HOSPITAL built for him in State House could have built a whole new hospital!

Members of Parliament must pass a law that NO ELECTED OFFICIAL can have his travel and medical expenses paid for from the National treasury. If they want treatment outside the country, they must pay for it themselves, out of their own pockets.

Them we will see our hospitals improve!

We cannot continue spending millions of Dollars on medical trips by non-performing Presidents like Sata and Lungu while the Zambian people cannot even access basic health care!

  5. Doctors allowances are in arrears yet this Lazy Bum Lungu just put 33 DCs on GRZ payroll each with a personal to holder Jeep, phone, travell allowances, free fuel…where is the priority in this govt of empty tins?

  6. No no no doctors you will not be paid, where do you expect Lungu to get money for campaigns? He has to fly his wife in a private jet to campaign in all villages across Zambia. He NEEDS to win next years elections.Just wait for election period money will be found. Besides there are a few by elections in the pipe line and lots of money needed to buy votes and interfere with UPND rallies.Just be patient doctors.Remember your hippocrates oath- do no harm…but don’t forget to vote PF next year…for continuity.

  7. We are expecting this. Zambians are paid for going to school not because of work. How many civil servants have not received those allowances? kambwili has the best method to handle such issues. who doesnt know that our economy is not doing fine? what happens to those people who are going to die? Its his time we started paying pay hour

  8. @Kayula another PF cadre speaking in the same stupit PF style.Iam you know that the economy is not fine. Why can you tell your Lungu to resign so that others can try.

  9. Mwe Bantu this country is in trouble! There is thing working apart from the Presidential Challenger jet! The country is on its knees. What is happening is the tip of an iceberg. What is coming is worse than the current events of load shedding and First Lady dishing out presents! Wait and see!

  10. Mean while Lungu’s wife and daughter are all over Zambia in different directions carrying GRZ stuff with them, cars and all that comes with these playful tours, we warned you the guy had no vision never put a very poor man like Lungu in state house again why do you think LAZ got his law practice licence?

  11. What is good for the top brass is also good for every Zambian Worker. If MPs and the Top brass get nice salaries and get all their huge allowances and graduities on time, then its good for every public employee too. Ba pase ce!

  12. Bad timing guys.. YOU CAN’T!!! I think its shameful that they are doing this. But hey whatever helps them sleep at night.

  13. I believe this is what they call “follow the leader”. ka Lungu is not doing any work so these young chaps figure they might as well join him in loafing, loitering and lazying around.
