Previous Governments’s failure to invest in energy shouldn’t be blamed on Lungu-Kambwili

THE failure by previous Governments to invest in the energy sector should not be blamed on President Edgar Lungu because he is a victim of circumstances, Chief Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has said.

Mr Kambwili said if previous Governments had invested heavily in the energy sector including emergencies, the country would not be experiencing the effects of the power deficit.

Mr Kambwili has since challenged the opposition political parties in the habit of
criticising Government over the power deficit to offer viable solutions that would help to cushion the situation rather than taking a confrontation stance all the time.

” All those opposition political parties have no solutions to the power deficit, they must sympathise with us and stop blaming Mr Lungu, let me remind you that, the President is a victim of poor planning by past governments because they failed to invest in energy,” Mr Kambwili said.

Speaking on ZNBC’s Sunday interview, the Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said President Lungu would however make major pronouncements this week during the official opening of fifth session of the eleventh National Assembly.

He said his government had consulted widely over the issue saying currently people should not panic because soon the situation would be normalised.

Mr Kambwili said the country had performed well in attracting foreign investors from the time Patriotic Front (PF) took over Government and warned the media to be responsible in their reporting.

” Certain reporting really scares investors, don’t know what you are getting out of it but just know that each time you become irresponsible, you are punishing the poor Zambians who needed that investor to come and create jobs for them,” he said.

He castigated those saying the government had failed and yet they were part of the system and he viewed such people as cowards for their failure to speak out the wrongs in government which they once served.

  1. The Prez is a victim? Well I am running victim support unit. Please come and exile. We can do rehab together. Have lots of therapy. One day in the future ED you will have made the seven steps needed to get over denial, irresponsible leadership, camera shyness, hallucinations about opposition, projection of confusion, the need for spiritual healing (hee hee gin n juice) and realise running without a vision was like a joke but now the reality is you cannot run away from the fact that all this is happening on your watch and if you were prepared (by having a vision) you would have hit the ground running in January not gone on vacation… Hashtag exileforEd

  2. We call this a*s*s – l*i*c*k*i*n*g. How many months have PF been in power? Are we now accusing Sata (MHSRIP) because he was president? Surely if what Lungu claims about continuing Sata’s legacy, then he had enough time to fix the economy. He was an existing PF person so he takes the blame 100%. They always claimed they created so many jobs and that the economy was doing well so what happened all of a sudden? Let’s stop this foolish blame gaming and let someone else take over and do a recommendable job.

  3. Kambwili Kambwili. In case you have forgotten, one of the promises PF made during campaigns prior to 2011 elections to the people of Zambia was to end load shedding within 90 days. This means you knew this was a problem and you promised to sort it out once you were elected into office. Loading shedding then was not as serious as we are experiencing now. How come now you are pushing the blame on the previous govt? Just fulfill this promise then we shall know that you meant what you said. It is surprising that even the MMD ministers serving in the PF govt just smile when Kambwili is ridiculing them.

    • This is really TOO MUCH! Can someone please take this dog outside and put him out of his misery.

Lungu and this PF showed just how clueless and ignorant they are when he went to Mozambique on another holiday and promised to export electricity to them only a month ago?!!!!!

You have been sleeping or drunk or BOTH! Just admit you have failed the Nation!!!!!!!!

  4. Isn’t it the reason why every opposition party wants to be elected into govt? To correct the mistakes/failures of the incumbent.
But then again CK your Jameson (quote Mumbi Phiri) said he had no vision so we are not surprised you are blaming the past.
You say you achieve things by being aggressive, what did you achieve with Gabon Disaster stadium, the Dora issue, CBU/ZNBC workers, Zambianwatchdog, list endless.

  5. I wonder what has happened to this blog. Where everyone is just looking for what negatives to write about others. Come on Zambians, we can do it. Just because it is coming from Kambwili … nishi nensele shatampa! Truth be told: EL and his government is doing something about it. He is not just sitting idle about the crisis. Truth be told, EL is not the reason there is load shedding, though it is his responsibility to do something about the situation. This is slowly turning into a complaining generation!

  6. Kambwili , we are tired of this stupid BLAME GAME you are playing!

Batoka Gorge will take THREE years to build. PF Government have been in power for FOUR years. And PF promised to end ZESCO problems in 90 days.

It is absolutely clear that you are a clueless Government and have failed absolutely and completely. You cannot now bullsh!t the People of Zambia with your lame and silly EXCUSES.

You sound just like a child caught in the act of stealing that says “it was not me!!!!”
