The annual inflation rate for the month of September has increased to 7.7 percent compared to 7.3 percent recorded in August 2015.

Central statistics Director John Kalumbi says the increase is as a result of an increase in both food and non food items.

Mr Kalumbi also says the annual food inflation rate for September has increased to 8.1 percent from 7.8 percent in August 2015.

Mr. Kalumbi attributed the increase to the increase in the prices of bread, buns, chicken, mealie meal and cooking oil.

And for non food inflation rate, September has recorded 7.3 percent increase from last month’s 6.7 percent.

This has mainly been attributed to the increase in the prices of transport particularly influenced by increase in the price of motor vehicles and transport.

And on trade Mr. Kalumbi said Zambia recorded a trade deficit valued at 724 million kwacha in August 2015 compared to July’s 959 million kwacha.

This means that the country imported more in August 2015 that it exported in nominal terms..

Mr. Kalumbi made the disclosure during CSO monthly bulletin briefing in Lusaka on Thursday.

  1. Somebody shout “ifintu ni lungu”! OMG! it seems no one likes to do that any more. I have observed that PF cadres have crawled back in their holes leaving the country on auto pilot.

  2. Very dismal of you Limpo! the country is not on Auto Pilot. Its people like you who are unable to support exports that are killing the country! VIVA EL

  3. Are these figures real?Am beginning to believe that like Zambia Police CSO isjust full of cadres or spineless *****s like Libongani who will do everything to save the face of PF.For example the price of cocacola has gone up from K4 to K 10 more than 100% just likethe prices of other commodities but inflation has only increased by 2%.How real is that? we should take very keen interest in what spineless vultures and compromised *****s like CSO are doing and ensure the ones responsible are dealt with once Chagwa has finally fallen.

  4. Could this be a result of economic sabotage / manipulation by some ‘powerful invisible hand’ to discredit those in power? Remember I’m neutral & poor performance of the economy (Kwacha) directly affects me also . So I’m concerned. Pliz ECL do something to benefit all of us regardless.

Problem with PF they are too tribal & regional to see sense in whatever others are saying. You can’t have a government & civil service that is 90% Muchinga & Luapula filled. You are not the only custodians of wisdom. God is always fair to everyone. Do not complain if another cantankerous person from else where took over & behaved like Sata.

  5. @Neutral you have hit the nail on its head. Tribalism is the cause of what is happening in Zambia why do say so? Zambians knew deep down in there hearts that Sata was an literate man who could not be president of Zambia but chose to ignore that because of tribalism. From 2011 a bad seed was planted were a clan of people are ruling the nation to fill there pockets as quickly as they can before they are kicked out. Zambians need to stop the rote and elect true leaders with economic knowledge and financial discipline to save this country. I will continue to say this because I am fully convinced PF are just a bunch of thieves.

  6. IN USA were people are educated are able to distinguish between a truly intelligent leader and a Kaponya but rich. In the case of Donald trump American now have known that he is a rich thief but can not be trusted as a leaders, hence they are now voting for lady MD. Tramp has the same features as Sata. He talks careless and talks before he thinks. Sata could speak English but could not explain concepts just like pre school children. Both come from questionable backgrounds.
