A senior government official in Muchinga Province has stressed that government was committed to improve the education sector in the country.

Speaking in Mpika yesterday during the official launch of the Bill Muster partnership between Trinity Zambian College of Education (TIZACO) and the Zambia National Commercial Bank (ZANACO), Muchinga Province Minister Mwimba Malama said the government was committed to the improvement of the education system in the country.

In a speech read on his behalf by his Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe, Mr. Malama said government has split of the Ministry of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education into the Ministry of General Education and the Ministry of Higher Education in order to improve the quality of education in the country.

The Provincial Minister also reminded the students at TIZACO, which first opened its doors to the public in 2013, to study hard and promised that government was ready to employ them once they successfully complete their studies.

He said government’s commitment was evidenced by the recruitment of 5,000 teachers this year that will soon be deployed in various schools across the country.

He expressed confidence that TIZACO, being a Christian college, will not only produce teachers but also leaders who will stand as role models for the children and society as at large.

Mr. Malama also reaffirmed government’s commitment to continue supporting noble partnerships such the ZANACO –TIZACO Bill Muster which has been launched.

Speaking at the same function, acting ZANACO Managing Director Ignatius Mwanza, said education was the anchor of his institutions’ corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme which focuses on financial education dubbed “Financial Fitness” under which the bank reaches out to students, adults, small and medium emergent farmers, ZANACO staff and members of the public on the importance of managing money and the role it plays in enriching the lives of the people.

He further said ZANACO takes pride in promoting literacy among children hence it has partnered with READ TO SUCCEEED, a USAID run project where it has adopted the reading tools in a box component in three provinces which include Muchinga.

On the launched programme, Mr. Mwanza said ZANACO’s Bill Muster platform facilitates fees collection through its branch network, internet banking and mobile banking platform.

And TIZACO Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Sampa said Zambia has been experiencing educational revolution from the time government liberated the educational sector and encouraged public and private partnerships such as the one ZANACO and TIZACO have entered into.

Reverend Sampa said the educational revolution seen in the country will lead the country to development revolution.
The launch of the ZANACO –TIZACO Bill Muster was witnessed by TAZARA Regional General Manager Patrick Shangala, Mpika District Commissioner Moses Katebe, Mpika District Council Secretary Mutakela Kabombo, traditional leaders and heads of government and parastatal organisations.

  1. It should start with ministers going back to school. Most don’t even have a simple grade 12. How can the government honestly make informed decisions when they lack the education needed to do so. Diplomats sent abroad some are uneducated, minister of tourism is empty as a can. Kambwili we have no words to describe him because he is beyond empty. You need a skilled and healthy labour force in order to run your economy and the reason Zambia is falling in so many ways.
