Serenje Hospital X-Ray Machine stolen

Share

Unknown people have stolen an X-ray machine from Serenje district hospital.

Acting Serenje District Commissioner Kenny Mungendenge has confirmed the development to ZANIS in an interview.

Mr. Mungendenge said the portable Philips X-ray machine valued at K400, 000 was last weekend stolen from Serenje district hospital X-ray department in the night.

He said the machine was discovered missing on Monday when radiographers wanted use it.

He said the matter has since been reported to police.

Mr. Mungendenge said the police have since been ordered to expedite investigations in order to bring the culprits to book.

“That is tax payers’ money that was used to purchase that machine so that anyone who needs an X-ray can go to the hospital and utilize the services of the machine but one or few individuals want to benefit at the expense of all,” he said.

He has also appealed to members of the public to help police with information that can lead to the recovery of the hospital equipment and the arrest of the thieves.

Central Province Police Commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said she would only give details of the matter after the experts that were sent to Serenje to investigate the matter get on the ground.

“It is too early for me to say something. We have sent experts to investigate the matter and they will be there soon. So let them get on the ground and I will talk to you,” Ms. Kamukoshi said.

  1. I’m sure they will find this X-ray machine. I don’t see how anyone can hide a whole X-ray machine in Serenje. Unless of course they were working in cahoots with one of ka Lungu’s New York entourage chaps who loaded it on the plane in hopes of selling it in New York. Then that will be a problem for the Serenje hospital.

    • what cant be stolen in Zambia? I am not surprised.
This is an important tool in patient management and some selfish persons decided they needed all to themselves and put patients’ lives at risk.

once these thieve are found, lock them up and throw away the keys

      what a shame

      Zambia the real Africa

    • What a depraved people these Zambians are! And tomorrow they will blame the government when they go to the hospital and find no X-Ray machine.

    • Check the private clinic or hospital for one of the doctors and nurses from Serenje hospital you will find it there. If not, check the Chinese clinics. Am of the idea that instead of putting CCTV’s in Lusaka city, place them in hospitals to stop pilfering by medical and nursing staff. There’s just too many lazy, corrupt and thieving individuals in Zambia.

    • X-ray machine?? But mu Zambia? Where will they sell it, back to PF government who buy used goods. This reminds me of my cousin who used to give us fish he catch to sell it to his wife. “Baiche kashitisheni isabi ili kuli bana Mpundu, ati lisabi lwenu”.
This X-ray machine is a PF in house story, the same machine will be sold back at same hospital, and bought from Constituency funds.

  2. ba Gen,
you ask the rhetorical question, what can’t be stolen in Zambia. I will tell you a story.
Back in the days of Namboard I went to seek out a job at one of their depots. I was fresh out of Secondary school before my next venture. Anyway, at that Namboard depot there was a ruckus. Someone had stolen the security guard’s booth. And there he was the security guard himself who was obviously tongue-tied, having to explain how anyone can steal his “house” when he was supposed to be on duty inside that same “house”.
