Suspended Zesco United trio get reprieved after training camp scandal

Share

Zesco United have denied press reports that its suspended trio sneaked women into the teams camp.

The defending FAZ Super Division champions confirmed that strikers Jackson Mwanza and Jonas Sakuwaha including midfielder Justin Zulu did breach training camp rules but that they allegedly brought in alcohol.

“The three are alleged to have abrogated camp rules contrary to section 13 (1) of the Zesco United code of conduct by consuming alcohol whilst in camp on 20th September, 2015 and were subsequently dismissed by the team manager,” Zesco spokesperson Chengo Katebe said.

“The three pleaded guilty to the charge and the committee chaired by club Vice-Chairman Dennis Banda ruled that the players be suspended for one month without any benefits that come with being part of the team.

“However, after mitigation, the committee warned the three sternly against their actions as senior players before reducing the suspension to two weeks with effect from the day they were dismissed from camp.

“Zesco United further regrets the way the story was carried by the Post Newspapers dated 6th October, 2015 under the headline ‘Zesco suspends trio for sneaking women in camp’ which was not the correct reflection of what transpired.”
