Chief Government Spokesman Chishimba Kambwili has lashed out at opposition UPND President Hakainde Hichilema for criticising the PF government describing him as a good for nothing tribalist.
Mr Kambwili said Mr Hichilema’s incessant appetite for criticising most of Government programs has exposed him as an arrogant and pompous person.
He was speaking Tuesday morning when he featured on a live Radio Phoenix’s ‘Let the People Talk’ program.
Mr Kambwili said Mr Hichilema’s recent radio interview on the same program was used to attack Government unjustifiably.
‘It is unreasonable and unjustifiable for anyone to attack the PF that we have failed to develop this country over the last four year and this is what Mr Hichilema was doing on this same program,’ Mr Kambwili said.
‘All the problems facing Zambia today cannot be attributed to the PF. Even in MMD, Zambia had the same challenges including in the UNIP days. That is why i am saying that no normal person can say the PF has failed,’ he said.
He said Mr Hichilema left many Zambians questioning his Economics Degree after he allegedly failed to articulate economic issues on the radio program.
‘Even non Economists know that what Zambia is going through is as a result of external shocks but you have Economic pundits here cheating the Zambia people that the depreciation of the Kwacha is due to PF’s poor policies. These pundits like Mr Hichilema are lying with open teeth.’
He appealed to Zambians to disregard Mr Hichilema’s opinions about the performance of the Zambian economy.
‘This man is just a pompous and good for nothing tribalist who thinks he is the only educated man in Zambia. Our current Bank of Zambia Governor is probably one of the best in Africa but he has failed to arrest the depreciation, so does it mean that Mr Hichilema is the only man who knows Economist by claiming that the Kwacha will appreciation the moment he is sworn? Is this magic? Abracadabra.’
Mr Kambwili itemised several infrastructural development that the PF has initiated since coming to power in four years ago.
‘We have done very well as a Government, we have constructed schools in all provinces, we have already constructed health posts and clinic in several parts of the country while our roads project is also on course.’
On load shedding, Mr Kambwili said Government has put in place measures that will accelerate the construction of ongoing power generation stations.
‘So when you hear these people say PF has failed the people because of load shedding, they are lying. Which power station gets constructed within four years? People need to be serious and realistic. Even my four year old niece Mubanga knows the load shedding is due to low water levels but Mr Hichilema does not seem to know that.’

I listened to the program and it was not at all an interview but was more of a tirade against HH. The interviewer was not at all in control of the program. At one point, Kambwili was asked a question on roads and did not have an answer but instead replied that he was not the Minister of Works to answer the question. Yet, he immediately continued speaking about infrastructural projects that are under the Ministry of Works. He exhibited the exact pomposity and arrogance he was criticizing HH about. Kambwili needs an interviewer like young Grevazio Zulu, who clearly does his research before an interview.
What could happen if one day, HH was to say the following…” I wish to appeal to the Zambian people to remain calm as the gvt is trying hard to find a permanent solution to the problem of load shedding which has been caused by low water levels and poor planning by our Gvt. As an opposition party, we shall work with the gvt by advising them on the alternative solution to the current challenges aimed at reducing the suffering of our people due to shortage of power. We therefore suggest the following:
1. That the PF government should start looking for investors in the Energy sector esp those interested in developing coal power plants and solar energy plants.
2. The GVT should also encourage Zambian companies to invest in the energy sector.
3. The Zambian gvt should act as surety for…

Listening to Mr Kambwili on HH was getting vitriol at its highest caustic concentration. Mr Kambwili has the title of honorable before his name BUT with his kind of language, one is left to wonder if the word honorable has an opposite of its intended meaning in the Zambian usage.

With ministers like this, is it any wonder that the country is in the state it is today? A minister who couldn’t even allow callers to finish asking their questions before answering and he hijacked the entire program and couldn’t even let the moderator ask questions. How uncouth of him to behave the way he did today during the “Let the people talk” program. HH behaved so professionally last week, the disparity between the two is so obvious.
I was shocked by Kambwili’s reasoning. He said: “my small niece in nursery school knows that load-shedding is due to low water levels, and she asked me, so if the rain won’t come then load-shedding will continue? Now if a small child can be reasonable and know that, what about the self-acclaimed economist?”
What we expected your goverment to do, Hon Kambwili, in the face of these challenges, was to cut-down on the size of delegations moving with the president (and for the president to move only when it is necessary) and to suspend the split of ministries. We also expect you to implement other measures such as reducing the number of deputy ministers and cut down cabinet ministers’ salaries/allowances and movements. With these and other similar measures people will take you seriously
I have never heard HH showing off. This is one of the nicest guys around. The problem in Zambia is that , locusts such as kashimba chimbwili do not want to be corrected even if they have brain deficiency. They do not accept constructive criticism. They think Zambians are stupid. Another locust called chikwanda was saying the economy is okay going by the number oh vehicles on the streets of Lusaka. Kashimba must emulate the likes of VJ at the information ministry. Not just BARKING like he has rabies.
I can never vote for HH as long as he does not acknowledge some of the successes of PF as a basis for any future development. To me anyone who does not build or departs from that pathway deserves none of my votes. Politicians should learn to criticize progressively and build on the strengths of other while correcting the weakneses identified. People in Zambia have seen what PF has done in four years and HH can not claim or refuse to acknowledge any of these. It means he will lead us into darkness.
