A woman from Muyombe in Mafinga district, who is attending the on-going Women Exposition, last night delivered a baby unaided at Tecla Lodge.

In an interview from Kalingalinga Clinic where Maita Mutambo and her baby boy were admitted for observation, the mother of four said she did not expect to deliver because medical staff in Muyombe assured her that she was far from her delivery date.

Ms. Mutambo said she was taken by surprise when she went into labour during the night and had no choice but to deliver the baby on her own at the lodge.

And Gender Minister Nkandu Luo presented a hamper to Ms. Mutambo at Kalingalinga Clinic this afternoon.

Professor Luo said as much as the birth was eventful and surprising, Mutambo’s story exemplifies the resilience of women.

The baby has since been named Expo Chagwa after President Edgar Lungu who opened the women’s Expo at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Tuesday.

And Kalingalinga Health Centre Officer-In-Charge Phidelina Kunda said both the mother and baby were out of danger and were by press time earmarked to be discharged.

    • Expo Chagwa? What an insult to the father of the child! Is he a fan of Edgar? Why does Mr. (yes Mr.) Nkandu Luo feel the need to name someone else’s child after such a heinous, clueless man who has taken many Zambians to an early grave due to hunger, load-shedding and poverty??

  1. Mother of four! There lies the problem. family planning needs to be addressed in schools in Zambia, including colleges and universities.

    • children are are blessing -don’t you see Europe is now in trouble because they have a shrinking population. Let Africans produce en mass so we can dominate the world in future.

    • Do you know how many people are in China? They were as poor as rural Zambians just 20 years ago. Now most of them a meium income earners. If the Mutambo family can afford to look after their children, they should have as many as 6 children.

  2. mwebantu sure ati expo chagwa? kikiki, chagwa is a good name nomba fi expo fumyeniko twapapata. this is a human being, not some toy to be used for political games!!!!

  3. Traditionally the father is entitled to name the first born. After that they loose the entitlement. But the name Expo should be reversed. Give the child a proper name, please!

  4. Teacher: Okay, class lets have some silence. We have a new pupil from Mafinga primary school. Can you please stand up and introduce yourself
Pupil: My name is Expo Chagwa Mutambo
Class: Ha ha ha ha ha ki ki ki ki ki Pwa ha ha ha ha ha ha! Dude! who gets such a name? It sucks dude
…….and the girls will be like “eal eal eal, that’s so lame, whatever!”

  5. ukutemwa a ma workshops, nelyo pregnancy ili advanced to travel all the way from miyombe sure!. as for the stupid name, the father must sue these Muppets.

  6. I am not sure of some of the comments that are coming out . My first question is what is a proper name? Is it John, Charity, Stanley, Edgar? What about names like bush, tiger, woods, schultz, etc… are they proper names. Just the leave this child alone. if he is named expo it is upto him to make that name great. That is why names like Tiger woods are now great because the carrier is a great person. George bush, Obama, Hakainde Hichilema these names if they were carried by ordinary people, they were going to be stihmatised

  7. A name is nothing else but identity. Chilufya, Tembo, Walker, are names with a meaning. For example Tembo is ELEPHANT but that doesn’t mean one grows up to become an elephant. If you have nothing sensible to offer please do not expose yourself. In BEMBA they say 1 Baisa, 2 Chaisa and 3 Kaisa. Where would you like to be placed?
