Western Province Permanent Secretary Mwangala Liomba has summoned some provincial heads of government departments (HoDs) to his office over delayed retirement of about K3 million special imprest in different accounts.

Addressing the heads of departments in his office in Mongu today, Mr. Liomba said retirement of imprest by some departments in Western Province was proving to be a challenge.

He has since urged the HoDs to help with imprest management.

Mr. Liomba reminded the HoDs that they were answerable to him and that imprest holders were under their charge.

He said there was therefore the need for them to quickly help in the retirement of imprest before his office could move in and punish erring officers.

The Permanent Secretary has since given a one week ultimatum for retirement of all the imprest failure to which action would to taken against erring departments.

He added that auditing for this year would soon be conducted.

Meanwhile, some provincial heads of departments argued that they have been retiring special imprest they have been getting except in extra-ordinary circumstances.

They said they only needed to reconcile documents with the Provincial Accounting Unit (PACU).

They added that PACU also seemed to have been misplacing some documents.

But Mr. Liomba advised the provincial heads of departments to be photocopying their retired documents before submitting them to PACU and retain copies for record and reference’s sake in case of any problem in future.
