President Edgar Lungu has said that there need for dialogue on challenges facing the mining sector and hopes that his visit to the Copperbelt will help solve the matter.

Speaking shortly before departure President Lungu said that there are many issues on the Copperbelt that requires government attention and that among the issues are job losses in the mining sector.

The President said that he will summon various ministers to help solve the various problems on the Copperbelt.

And Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Amos Chanda has announced that President Lungu will extend his working visits to all the regions in the country.

And US Ambassador to Zambia Erick Schultz has hailed President Edgar Lungu’s decision to take time to work from the Copperbelt at a time when the mining sector is facing various operational challenges.

Mr. Schultz said that the move by the Head of State shows that he is committed to addressing the challenges the mining sector is facing.

Mr. Schultz stated that investors world over want to know the predictability of the market by being informed of policies that are being put in place to address challenges that arise from different circumstances.

He said that President Lungu has therefore done well to decide to work from the Copperbelt and personally engage mine owners on issues they are facing amidst low copper prices on the international market.

And Ambassador Schultz has encouraged the Zambian government to embrace policies aimed at diversifying the country’s economy.
Mr. Schultz said that it was good that the Zambian government has realized the need to diversify the economy and stop the over dependence on copper as a major foreign exchange earner.

The President arrived in Ndola to a thunderous welcome and was received by Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge, Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili, PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri and several senior government and PF officials.

  1. “The President arrived in Ndola to a thunderous welcome and was received by Copperbelt”
show us the pictures of the thunderous crowd.

    • But how will this working shift help solve the economic hardships the people are going through when no measures have been taken tackle the problems. To me he is there for allowances seeing that the coffers cannot allow him to fly abroad anymore. With this huge entourage no wonder the economy is rotting. There are no saving measures under his regime.

    • whats happening kuli ka shi tasila? is he lossing weight at same rate kwacha is lossing or his clothes are increasing in volume???,,, maybe its miracles he was praying for, you never know, be careful what you pray for!!! people!,,, na leka! i wont say more, pali bana!

    • Do you know what happens when one is hit by thunder? That is a powerful electric shock that burns you beyond recognition!

That is what happened to the crowds. They were burnt to ashes and there is no way of seeing any remnants …

    • Issues on the copper belt will not be resolved by moving there rather by a prudent approach to problems. Just yesterday harry kalaba was saying the government is reducing on travelling. well moving state house to kitwe? Alexander Chikwanda talks about controlling expenditure a few weeks later new ministries are formed! The level of wastage is alarming in this Government. Edgar Lungu talks about fighting corruption in his independence message yet Zesco is smelling of electrical fire caused by a short circuit of two Chinese companies.
We need to be serious with tackling real issues otherwise we are merely playing a never ending game of who’s fooling who?

    • Thunderous welcome indeed by people in suits. Lungu wake up the people you found is typical stage management at its best.

  2. A press conference will do. There are many pressing issues in the country and we want to hear the way forward. As for diversification of the economy I think the country needs another day of prayers.

    • Is Edgar going for work or vacation??? Why take with to a province which needs intensive meetings?
Ba Ester nabena needs to give us a break, we need to work, she taking to much energy out of that weak Lungu.

  3. Hmmmmmmmm. You sent ministers to the copperbelt and you come expecting change over the mines that have no power? Keep lifting your fist and you shall see how those idiiots will desert you once you are powerless. Anyway good luck Mr President. We will wait and see just how special you are, all the very best.

  4. Why is it that when a president travels anywhere they have to be people to see him off and people to receive him, is it not a waste of man hours, money and resources. All these people use government fuel, money to do this, I do not see this type of thing in the west are we still suffering from the one party state or we are just wasteful.

    • True. And all those people left their jobs to go to the airport. They never returned to their places of work to continue with their duties. Those are hours of productivity wasted just like that. And I am sure the offices will remain closed till Lungu leaves the copperbelt. That is how productivity is slowed, so how can you develop? And they will claim some allowances!!!!

  5. the Presideeeee’s wife looks a bit older than our president. kambwili looks smart. The raised ka fist looks a bit weak almost like Esther Phiri’s raised fist after her last fight she “won” before the master of all kisses on stage. I miss Robert Mugabe’s FIST. I am still skeptical over this tour of duty. Nkana Leach plants closed. Nkana cobalt plant closing soon. Mufulira smelter/leach/acid plants at half capacity. KCM waiting quietly in the background. Kansanshi with consultants on site to check on reducing costs……kaya.

  6. If our president is a president for ALL Zambians, why does he always give the raised fist PF party symbol – whatever the occasion ? Surely he should be speaking to all the people and not just to the party cardres who have been brought in to grace the occasion. A warm wave to those gathered would be more appropriate.

    • The clenched fist is symbolic of cadreism which is what Lungu is. He also sneaks out of State House to drink with his mates. What part of Lungu’s inept qualities do you not see? About the wife she’s old of course what did you expect? This man is not worth being a President. He could be a chief yes by inheritance like he did, inherit Presidency. He is not cut out for a Presidential role. Read my analysis below you foo.l. You are the people who put drunkards in such a high office the start asking obvious questions.

  7. UPND,u want him to handle serious issues the “cattle or Kachema” way.He is not looking after cows but people.Hence the need to face them and discuss.Miner owners are people like u nd me,why not face them and see the way forward. Kachemas,u boast of being educated and yet u re so backwards like Southerners. I know this move has shaken u,muza lila futi next year!!!

  8. When does a President tell a nation about the state of the economy in his own words and how he sees the way forward? Or is that not a Presidential duty to give leadership in times of challenges like this one. Lungu hopes to sleep-walk through the Presidential term (competition of Sata’s) possibly longer without talking to the electorate. He dodged the debate before the elections and now he is thinking: I can manage not to say anything and just behave like a cadre and get away with it. These people can let me they are daft. I can just tell them that we pray and keep woodwinking them that way and get away with it. The guy cannot face the press, he has no capacity to engage into a discussion that would enable him to think and respond. I hope Zambians can see this inadequacy which is also…

  9. Cont…prevelant in most of his ministers. Are Zambians this gullible and docile? Which fo.ol heads into Plot one next?

  10. Lingu’s capabilities are limited to reading what is written for him by fellow cadres, raising a clenched fist and doing things he saw KK doing when he was younger and of course beer drinking. He also show a humble face so that you can feel sorry for him. Zambia needs a leader to inspire the nation not seat warmers. Get rid of the guy before it’s too late.

  11. Surely this is myopic leadership by this utterly lazy BUM Edgar….what is it you need to discuss with mining stakeholders about job losses? You know that the price of copper is at an all time low, every business unlike you reckless empty tins in govt has to cut back expenditure there is simply no need to keep 2000 workers when productivity has been reduced. The only thing this bum will offer them at these discussions is more fuel, energy subsidies and tax breaks at the expense of poor taxpayers for casual workers…if they really want to diversify the economy they should be treating peasant farmers like kings.
The only reason this lazy bum is in CB is for campaigning…he is too lazy to work!!

    • Campaigning for a politician IS work. Honestly, why waste time trying to correct the wrongs of others when you can enjoy your stay and make sure the likes of you JJ don’t will never be anywhere near the leadership circles. So, let Edgar do his thing and campaign. As for me and my generation, we shall vote for ECL.

  12. When faced with problems, weaklings simply throw their hands in the air in despair, point fingers at everybody, insult everybody, misplace their trust in the hands of sweet talkers, scamper in all directions, and of course they get consumed by the problems. That is the characteristic of weaklings. Even in their homes, they cannot inspire their wives and children, they cannot offer solutions or provide leadership.
On the other hand, the strong face the challenges head on, unite, share ideas and overcome. Lungu is in the second category, abashala baba mu first category like Nawakwi and others that I cannot mention for fear of insults by their cadres and blind disciples. But mwalibeshiba.

  13. Days of welcoming leaders are long gone . This mob of lazy ministers should have been working in Lusaka rather than drive all the way from Lusaka to Ndola wasting tax payers money and fuel. Welcome him for what? This is another thing which needs stopping all together.

  14. Did you see Mmembe’s Past news editorial today? He has mentioned all the things that Michael did every day and which he never saw as a problem. Today exactly the same things are a problem with Mmembe. I did not know that corruption had different shades of colour, but Mmembe has succeeded in giving exactly the same corruption imaginary colours. He then apportions the imaginary colours, dark colours for his enemies or rather enemies of his businesses, and transparent colours for himself and his friends. That is why Mmembe cannot see his theft of DBZ funds as corruption or theft. T
But to normal humans, corruption is a definition not a colour.

  15. God sees how your hearts are full of envy and hate. Unless them from your hearts, what you wish will never happen. No human being will ever make things go your way. Love your fellow human being as much as you would love to.

  17. WE HAVE BEEN ASKING WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT FOR MONTHS? FINALLY HE IS ALAS GETTING INVOLVED. NOW LETS WAIT AND SEE HOW EFFECTIVE A LEADER HE CAN BE. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL NOT END LIKE KAINGU ANNOUNCING A SOLUTION TO CBU ISSUE AND THEN IT RESURFACES AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS. LUNGU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN INVOLVED 4MONTHS AGO!!!!!

  18. Travelling by Jet to Ndola. travel in $100K Lancruiser to remote places, how does one understand what travelling is for the common man in Zed.?

  19. #umuswema , I agree with you. Wasting money for the same minister from Lusaka to drive to Ndola airport to welcome Lungu. We need to ban this practice in the constitution.

  20. @Jay Jay you are the lazy bum always insilting the President, your mother never loved you. You are filled with nothing but hatred jealous and envy grow up. HH worshipper

  21. why do you hate lungu so much. The one you want to rule this he will only be chief in choma. That choma based political party will never win an election come 2016.

  22. Kwena people are bitter. This kind of bitterness will not take you anywhere. There is nothing good that our President is going to do in your eyes. everything is wrong. You are giving him blessings.
Mulebako serious bane. bunda bwaku bwata bwata

  23. upnd cadres tell me wat can slove the problem cos u said prayer cant solve it , wen Ed visits CB to see for himself and help to solve, again u said going there cant solve a problem so in yo thinking wat can really solve a problem, is it going under the ocean?

  24. Let him work his magic. Copperbelt is full of expatriates who love boasting about the presidential favours stuffed envelopes get them. He’s the right man to sit down with his financiers and work out a decent pay package for his retirement. Oh and he might just wave at some of those citizens who can’t afford to shop at the mall he opened like he was a mayor. He will live the Copperbelt richer for the experience and if we are lucky even save a few jobs til Xmas. Go ED. Man of the sheeple!

  25. Let the president work. Chiwamila galu! Campaign properly and you might get it and we will also give what you’re giving our president only that you will have worst excuses for failure.lol
