President Edgar Lungu has directed the Kitwe City Council to immediately halt the proposed construction of Chisokone ultra modern market until the plans are submitted to his office. President Lungu said that he will not allow the project to go ahead without the involvement of all stakeholders and his office.

The President said that said any plans to develop Chisokone market must involve all stakeholders because currently the market is the largest employer on the Copperbelt. The Head of State said this when he addressed thousands of marketeers at Chisokone after touring the market.

And the President has directed the Kitwe Town Clerk and Mayor to ensure that all trading facilities being built in the city are distributed to the local people and not rich businessmen who are already empowered.

Mr Lungu said that says the 1.6 million kwacha revolving fund for marketeers will be distributed through the existing market associations to ensure that the right people benefit from the project.

Zambia Traders and Marketeers Association president Goodson Mofya has commended President LUNGU for empowering marketeers on the Copperbelt.

Business came to a standstill in Kitwe as thousands of residents lined up the streets to have a glimpse of President Lungu. The President took time to drive around the city and waved at the elated Residents who jostled to have a glimpse of him. The President drove from Chisokone market all the way to ECM Mining on Independence road in Buchi which was filled with people from all
walks of life.

The marketeers who sang solidarity songs in support of President Lungu. The President was accompanied by Information minister Chishimba Kambwili, Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge, Mines Minister Christopher Yaluma and PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri. Others where cabinet ministers, Kitwe mayor and Copperbelt based district commissioners.

Meanwhile, President Lungu has directed the Kitwe City Council to immediately put its house in order in terms of land allocation. The President says he is aware that the Kitwe City council is currently facing serious challenges in terms of land management.

Mr Lungu said that he will not allow the situation at the Kitwe City council to go unchecked and ordered Town Clerk Bonwell Luanga and Mayor Kelvin Sinyangwe to immediately address the illegal allocation of land.

The President also warned Councilors at the Local authority involved in the illegal issuance of Plots to immediately stop or face the wrath of the law.

He said it is unfortunate that innocent citizens are being denied access to land due to illegalities in the allocation process and urged the local authority to clean its house. President Lungu said this in Kitwe today when he addressed thousands of marketeers at Kitwe’s Chisokone market.

And Information and Broadcasting Minister Chishimba Kambwili has appealed to marketeers not to experiment with leadership. Mr Kambwili said President Lungu is not responsible for the current economic woos Zambia is facing adding that the PF government is on the right track to redeem Zambia economically.

Earlier, PF Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri urged the marketeers to rally behind the leadership of President Lungu especially with the empowerment program he has initiated for women.

President Lungu is on a five day tour of the Copperbelt.

  1. The best people on the CB can do is ignore Edgar. He has no vision and truth be told. The lives of people on the CB are worse off since Edgar became president. It will get worse….solution, let us show him the door next year

    • Free talking point for opposition parties to enlighten citizens on administration, i.e. State House Vs Municipalities……

“President Edgar Lungu has directed the Kitwe City Council to immediately halt the proposed construction of Chisokone ultra modern market until the plans are submitted to his office. President Lungu said that he will not allow the project to go ahead without the involvement of all stakeholders and his office.”

This is meddling in affairs of local councils by State House

    • ECZ are toothless, how can they allow 2016 campaign hats at official government duty like Edgar? This is abuse of government resources.

  2. why is mr lungu not saying anything about the economy . Ba PF what’s happening with your economy ? Things will be worse in December . Only DR mwanawasa was a true leader and cared for as poor Zambians .

    • @Jocob don’t be childish. Don’t you know he has nothing to say apart from cadre praises. he has worked out what Zambians want. The man is empty

    • Your Excellency, Godspeed on reconnecting with the grassroots where you belong! Politics citizens appreciates is this kind which is driven by top down leadership of realism and not idealism. Zambians acknowledge and appreciate your sense of realism, rich story of a fellow commoner than flippants who think consequences of our woes as a country is their Golden opportunity to come finish offloading the country to multinationals they work for against the motherland.

    • He is not affected. He can afford to send esther anywhere any time on taxpayer money, thats whatever little in left in government coffers and he has 10 foot containers fully packed with JAMESON at state House……..

      IFUNTU NINANI?????????????????????

  3. Hope Zambians have learned a reason and the worst is still coming . Only dull cows can vote for PF , 5 more years of this corrupt and dull government . 5 more years under PF Zambians will be refugees on boats to Europe .

  4. That patch of Kitwe is very small, even when you go there, it is difficult to get the vehicle through that street, people walking alongside on both sides. They chose to have a stop over there so the pictures would show that a lot of people had turned up.

  5. Why is the President carrying out local municipality functions? Can’t he just buy his dry fish and get back to State House at Kitwe?

    • It is strange to wonder why the President must be involved at council level events. Talk about government bureaucracy… the executive office shouldn’t need to be involved in every facet of daily operations.

  6. Mobile Phone Gondwe,

You can belittle the event as much as you can, but it won’t boost the votes for your HH. My relatives in my home town, Kitwe, confirmed what has been reported that Kitwe virtually came to a standstill with thousands of the residents not only thronging the streets of Kitwe, but vowing to give EL and the PF another mandate in 2016. Believe what you want if that will make you happy, but I got this information first hand from bona fide Kitwe residents who witnessed what happened.

  7. ‘Mr Lungu said that says the 1.6 million kwacha revolving fund for marketeers will be distributed through the existing market associations to ensure that the right people benefit from the project.’

This is nothing but vote buying, the PF will try all the tricks in the books from vote buying, NRC limitations to peserved opposition strong hold, intimidations using pangas, etc.

  8. I know this road opposite chisokone market, it is ever jam packed like that, just shout kabwalala and the entire chisokone market will fill up this place, bakopala have just played the kateka.

  9. A Gondwe,we know what is going on,its you cheating yourself. Watch miles sampa, hurry kalaba, nkandu Luo,yamfwa mkanga, wylbur simusa & others! Its too to comfort yourself 4 2016,kwacha is stil falling. We shall press the button against someone tall for sake of zambia.

    • Ba Fodesanko – Very useless choice of name by the way — Real men failed those tactics in the past. Let Miles play games and he will be buried in a political dustbin – watch this space.

  10. This road opposite chisokone market is ever jam packed with people, if you want it to be filled by population yamuntu just shout kabwalala, and the all marketeers and buyers will come running, nice work bakopala you have played him nice.

  11. When people expect the president to give the people his economic policy and direction and in steal a bit of hope in the lives of the majority of Zambians, He goes there to talk about a market which is under a local authority.
But you will be surprised that PF supporters are still singing praises for a person who has kept quiet about all the economic, zesco black out, rise in cost of living problems that they are facing, this is more like a big kick in the back side, and yet you still say ifintu ni lugu.
I have never seen such a dell president in my life who can not even read the writing on the wall.

  12. God really works in mysterious ways. Suddenly ECL has the ability to scrutinise and approve building plans ..He is Chief building inspector, architect, engineer etc. All seeing etc. Reminds me of one North Korean leader who climbs mountains unaided and can hit 9 eagle’s on his first attempt at golf. What a farce and a tragedy rolled in one. And that ka Hat reminds me of Lewis Carrols mad hatter.

    • After all, what you do expect?
He is our “anointed”, “humble”, “visionary”, “wise” and convicted “best ever” “dear leader”.
What next, booklet with “wise” quotes from our “dear leader?

  13. We were ok in ZCCM ,who ever has eaten the money of Zambian mines will never rule this nation . We do not forget easily. Let ECL continue.

    • @muzo, your statement is null and void. The people “that ate the money of Zambian mines” are currently ruling again as members of PF.

  14. UPND can’t form government because it is not yet popular in Zambia. This man u re belittling is very popular on the Copperbelt, continue overating HH and face a heavy thumping next year.

  15. Good move mr president. Hh is busy compagning with his gbm. Go round the country and assure people of government commitment to solving the current economic woos. Hh and his people have spread alot of lies on the ground.! Going round meeting people on the ground will neutralise the propaganda from upnd..! U have my vote!

  16. UPND stop cheating yourselves that the tide of popularity on copperbelt has turned to your “southern province party”.To be truthful, theres no UPND on the C/belt.How can u win general elections with 27 mps from Southern province and just a few from botatwe circuits? His Excellency ECL will thump u heavily nd bury your Tribal party once nd for all.

    • ECL didn’t “thump and bury” UPND in the January 2015 elections. ECL’s margin of victory was so small that in a proper democracy, it would have automatically triggered a recount of the votes. No basis to believe that he is now more popular than he was in January.

  17. Ba UPND balwala shiki, lelo. We still command the entire CB!! Viva PF viva ECL. There is the best time to build infrastructure. Obatala and Cat Power balepolomya lelo!!

  18. Lungu, did you sort out the job loses on CB.??. Instead of typical kaponya money in your pockets lies, are the miners being reinstated??.

  19. UPND will be defeated next year without a doubt. People, the UPND of HH,brought politics of tribalism(nega nega) and regionalism(mapatizya formula) in our counrty.Lets join hands and stop these perpetrators of tribalism from existing in our politics.

  20. Lungu under normal circumstances can not woo reasonable thinking peoples to vote for him but his sangomas witchcraft is working to deceive gullible people to think of continuity with a failed regime. God will undo the witchcraft very soon and El ll b history.

  21. Just a quick thought: About Edgar Lungu and the fish vendor; Could the vendor not even wrap the fish? Couldn’t Lungu even raise the hygene implications of this? When are presidential elections again? Zambia deserves better.

  22. This is just disgraceful the whole president meddling in municipal council politics….instead of pushing for decentralization…its no wonder we have filthy streets as these councils are being bullied by central govt.
Like we stated this utterly lazy bum has gone to CB under guise of working yet he is using govt resources to campaign.

    • @ Jay jay And he is even getting paid perdiems for this. One must ask oneself in what capacity has this guy gone to copperbelt if he’s going to wear PF regalia?

  23. Business should not be run by the president. Business is driven by market forces responded to by the private and public sector partnerships while the government provides an enabling environment. This mentality of making people think that the government will do things for them will not grow our economy but will lead to laziness and more poverty. People must be encourage to work hard and be successful. This habit of demonising rich people for populist politics is very wrong. It is these same rich people who should be supported to create more employment. Further people must be encouraged to aspire for a better life through hard work rather than political promises that are unsustainable.

    • @Judy

Good solid advice. But I think Lungu is more worried about getting elected than fixing Zambias economy.

And most Zambians are too ignorant to see that these are just more of the same 90 day LIES that PF have used to get elected.

The only thing that will open eyes is starvation, and by then the economy will be like Zimbabwe, and we will have a dictator for life that rules by panga law.

  24. What is wrong with CB residents, are you sure PF is still popular. Yes by intimidating opposition like what happened to Nawakwi but ECL is campaining and yet the opposition is brutalised. HH 2016

  25. Pf is just one term govt, mark my word. In short period of its rule, fertlizer is selling K500 per bag from K150 during RB’s. Shame!

  26. It’s very painful to see ECL seemingly still popular, despite the various propaganda, not so ba upnd? I know u will come up with all sorts of arguments and theories…but who cares

  27. It is a huge disappointment people can still show support for PF; perhaps they have not experienced the worst yet under these clueless so-called leaders. It is this same Copperbelt that produced the current leadership; below par. It is not surprising the same mentality exists when the president visits them for disguised campaigns. There is this chief who lamented how Lusaka and Copperbelt have been a huge disappointment in ushering in ‘i.d.o.t.s’. It was too strong a statement but cannot be ignored. That is what it means when you co-exist with life survivors; individuals who have no legitimate form of earning a living. Now they are hit hard by retrenchments and some still shout ECL. Wait until the economic stress buttresses you to a point you wont even walk to a polling station. It is…

  28. It is not longer an issue of ‘UPND’ (which in itself is a huge opportunity for Zambia) but a matter of posterity and death. The stone that the builders rejected became the chief cornerstone!

  29. Teachers and civil servants in Chingola and the rest of the Copperbelt, keep campaigning. Your message is loud and clear and that’s why State House decided to change offices.

  30. Sorry EL, too late too little. The economy has delivered power to your most feared opponent. RB tried hard as well but the same people who stood still for him made him cry. Never trust the Kopolas. They marginally helped you in January but the mood has changed.

  31. Comment:jst leav our presido hh ad gbm alone they are true men evn here in mpulungu ni hh cabe, too much jemason elc 2016 ni viva hh

  32. Lungu is useless, very incompetent!!! Yet id10ts are busy giving him praises for nothing. Zambia has the biggest share of *****s on earth!!!

  33. The American president complained that it’s so difficult to do business in Zambia because government is involved in almost everything. This breeds corruption. Now even a market plan has to be approved by statehouse? ECL really has time for things that don’t matter. He probably wants a cut from the contractors

  34. When you have no vision and do not now your work, you end up wanting to do the work of local councils. Zambia cannot move forward under such leadership. Interference in local council activities led to FTJ killing them and now we have EL who wants to direct the works of the councils. Does he not have enough work with his cabinet and central govt really. Maybe he needs to be demoted for a lower position were he can do better.

  35. ‘2016’ on his kasote means that he has started campaigning, so have the rest.
Has the national assembly been dissolved while I was not looking?

  36. some of you guys are FOOOOLISH indeed. Dont you know that the president is the final person and he has powers to stop something is it is not properly managed. Long live Mr presido

  37. Baba Mr Lungu, you came into power using illegal tactics, wielding a panga. Do you really think anybody takes you seriously with that background? Just look at your cabinet and reflect. It is hard to see our country moving on without a president that has a track record of success in anything. Yes, you chose the right forum to champion a cause that sounds great but is of no consequence to the rule of law and the development agenda. Zambia needs leaders that will talk the talk and walk the walk. You talk without realising the consequences. How can you effect planning at district level from State House? What does that say about your understanding of governance? It is this kind of approach and lack of wisdom that makes me believe that we will see the back of you come next election. I strongly…
