Modern Stars moan over flopped promotion

Kalulushi Modern Stars say they are writing to FAZ to complain over the haphazard timing of decisive final Division One North games played at the weekend.

Kalulushi on Sunday missed out on promotion by a whisker as Lumwana Radiants and Mufulira Blackpool qualified to the Super Division.

Three crucial games that involved Lumwana, Kalulushi and Blackpool were played on different days and times.

Lumwana played their game on Saturday – beating Zesco Solwezi 1-0 while Kalulushi’s game in which they beat Ndola United 1-0 was played on Sunday before Blackpool defeated Chindwin Sentries 5-0 in a game that started 40 minutes late.

In an interview, Kalulushi secretary Joel Silwamba said his club believes all final games should have been played simultaneously.

Silwamba said it was unfair for FAZ to allow crucial games to be played on different days and times.

“We are writing to FAZ to complain over the manner in which these final games have been played. We were supposed to play these games at the same time,” Silwamba said.

“It is unfair for FAZ to allow such things to happen when there is a high level of competition. All we needed is to have a level playing field,” he said.

Silwimba added:”It seems that others have an upper hand and somebody is pushing them. These are things killing our football.”

He,however, congratulated Blackpool and Lumwana for winning promotion.

“I want to end this interview by congratulating Lumwana and Blackpool, they gave us good competition but we will be back as Kalulushi next season.”

  1. FAZ Division 1 North was very competitive this season , football seams to be moving back in the Copperbelt and spreading into North Western. Congrats to Lumwana, Warriors, Blackpool and Tigers.
