President Edgar Lungu has called for more Chinese investments in various sectors of the economy.
President Lungu says he will endeavor to boost trade relations with China during his reign comparable to the days of then Chinese President, Mao and First Republican President, Kenneth Kaunda.
The President says the construction of Tanzania-Zambia Railways -TAZARA- is testimony of the two countries’ good trade and bilateral relations from the days of the two former leaders.
President Lungu says his government wants stronger bilateral and trade ties with China.
The President says he will use the visit to Africa by Chinese President, Xi Jinping to share his experience in office and the progress on various development agreements.
President Lungu was speaking at State House today when he met a Chinese delegation led by Tianjin Federation of Industry and Commerce Secretary General, Liu Daogang.
Meanwhile Commerce, Trade and Industry minister, Margaret Mwanakatwe said the Chinese delegation has pledged investment in various sectors including setting up of manufacturing industries for Car Batteries, Automated Teller Machines -ATM-, Bio-Medicine.
Mrs. Mwanakatwe said the Chinese will also set up water, and a bicycle assembling plants.
And speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Daogang said they are in Zambia following positive business reports from Chinese investors operating in the country.
Mr. Daogang pledged that he will help Zambia woo more investors from his 30 thousand member federation of Industry and Commerce.

Complete inconsistencies and hypocrisy: just last week Chinese investors were murdered in garneton, for almost one year another group of Chinese investors has been struggling to retain the asset (Black Mountain) they bought from ENRC. PF ministers together with jerabos have been stealing their materials in total disregard of the law! What a country!

I don’t understand why TAZARA is always cited as a good example of ties with China. The thing is bankrupt and on the verge of closure, we have failed to manage it even semi successfully and it is now just a drain on resources. Infact didn’t some of the Eurobond money get flushed down this hungry toilet??
This president has no vision. In Kenya they are working on high speed train and assembling Ford cars while he wants to kill Zam bikes by allowing the Chinese to assemble bicycles. Manufacturing of what is not being manufactured here is ok but not assembling bicycles.
