MINISTER of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili has told Parliament that The Post newspaper is a disservice to Zambia. Winding up debate on the budget for his ministry on Thursday night, Mr Kambwili chided The Post newspaper saying it reports irresponsibly.

“It must be realised that the media is the fourth estate and if it is not guided, it can lead the country into turmoil,” Mr Kambwili said and referred to the Rwanda genocide.

He said the private tabloid is doing a disservice to the nation through its irresponsible reporting.

“I don’t believe in the reporting of The Post newspaper whether you are in government or opposition.

“And for you the UPND, The Post does not like you. Their reporting has gotten out of hand and it is high time we all stood up against The Post. The newspaper is full of insults,” Mr Kambwili said.

He said the reporting of The Post has scared some investors, noting that one such investor was surprised to see a completely pleasant atmosphere in Zambia after earlier being discouraged by what The Post had portrayed of the country.

“As Government, we have the responsibility to serve the people of Zambia whether you are in Government or opposition,” Mr Kambwili said.

He said even when he was in the opposition, he stood up against The Post newspaper.

Meanwhile, THE Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE) says it has no political inclinations and has distanced itself from a news story by The Post that it has warned the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) over dragging the traditional leadership into partisan affairs.

BRE spokesperson James Mulenga confirmed that Mr Kanyelele is not a member of the royal establishment, and so he could not speak on its behalf.

“I just know Mr Kanyelele and that he stays in Lusaka, but he is not part of us and cannot speak on behalf of the royal establishment,” Mr Mulenga said.

“We have no political inclination and we want the nation to remain peaceful and united,” he said.

And former Kabwata Constituency chairperson Alex Bwalya Kanyelele has dismissed the story attributed to him in yesterday’s edition of The Post newspaper headlined ‘Bembas warn PF’, saying he is not a member of the BRE. In a walk-in interview yesterday, Mr Kanyelele charged that the story was concocted to suit the newspaper’s political agenda.

He said he does not belong to the BRE, nor is he the spokesperson for the Chitimukulu, the paramount chief of the Bemba, for him to issue such a statement to the media.

“I refute the story in today’s [yesterday’s] Post newspaper with a headline ‘Bembas warn PF’ because I never issued that statement. I am not a spokesperson for the BRE. There is no way I can speak on their behalf,” he said.

Mr Kanyelele, who was flanked by Lusaka Province PF youth chairperson Kennedy Kamba, said that he was shocked to read the story attributed to him, which he was not even aware of.

He urged The Post newspaper not to drag him into its politics and should therefore leave him alone.

“Please The Post, stay away from me. I am a staunch Patriotic Front member and I respect and support President Lungu,” he said.

Mr Kanyelele said he has no intentions to fight the political party he belongs to, and that he has supported the PF for a long time.

He could not therefore fall into the trap of some media houses which have their own agenda.
And Mr Kamba has said that it is clear that The Post is desperate and will do anything in an effort to tarnish the name of President Lungu.

He warned PF members to be careful and be alert with the newspaper. Mr Kamba said President Lungu is in control of the many development programmes underway.

  1. Iwe chimbwii, in as much as The Post is not perfect, you are more of a disservice to Zambians than The Post. At least the Post inform but you just issues threats and fight people.

    • Now Mr. Kanyelele, exactly what did you tell The Post? You have only denied saying what The Post reported. If you have balls why can’t you take the paper to court? You know you said it and i believe it’s true because Amos refused to name Miles’ emissaries – The Chitimukulu and his entourage!

    • The post never reports lies, this has been proven over many years. The post is a good service to zambia, it is a necessary service in a democracy. PF time is up & all this leg kicking won’t serve you but the post will be here 50 years from now. Live with that, the post is not going anywhere, you are vacating, DEAL!

    • BUFFOON Kambwili and his boss the dull utterly LAZY empty tin Edgar are also a disservice to voters and taxpayers who pay them a salary for doing absolutely nothing but offer myopic and shambolic leadership. The Post is a private entity how can it be of disservice if you don’t like it don’t read it or buy it.

    • Chishimba Kambwili and his fellow PF crooks are feeling the heat; and they have forgotten that it was Fred M’membe’s Post newspaper which helped them to win the tripartite elections in 2011.
Kambwili should appreciate freedom of the press. The Post is there to educate and inform us.

    • UPND Buffoons are enjoying the insults perpetrated by Meembe because of one Agenda…That the post will help them win elections …. Very unprincipled and stupid. FYI Meembe will never support UPND, he has already formulated a way of booting you out of power should Zambians make a mistake of voting for your U5 party. Meembe already has a 500 pages of lies to be directed at your HH. As far as meembe is concerned its all about Winter. No winter no Zambia. No matter how many insults and lies the post reports about PF, you will still loose next elections PF is here to stay. After Lungu, we shall vote for miles. HH is already written off. Last year he cried, next year he will resign.

    • Ba Kambwili when was the last time you were of service to this country? It is difficult to recall when you did not give some directive or threats on matters which needed clear leadership or service to the country. Otherwise you are equally of disservice to this nation.

  2. Voetsek Chishombo Kapuli. You (yourself) is biggest Irritant/repellant to Zambians and investors alike. You remind me of Late Tentamashinsha in the lst days of RB’s regime!

    • Yes the Post has its agenda and preferred candidate but it NEVER misquotes. Ask VJ about the verbartim which was recorded in Lubumbashi over the Katumbi debacle. If Post misquotes, it quickly retracts and apologises. Kanyelele has just grown cold feet. I hope his verbatim can be televised on ZNBC and we will see who is playing with semantics. Yes We need balanced reporting but the propaganda from Times of Zambia, Daily nation, Daily Mail ZNBC is suffocating so The Post is a crucial and only counterweight available

    • Was Tetamashimba still alive in the last days of RB’s regime? A golden time when you could inflation because the price of mealie meal and saladi was actually falling.

    • Post derailed??? You must have been born yesterday, the Post are thorough, they’ll produce a recording of Kanyelele’s interview and then we’ll see who’s the liar and the gullible.

    • Yes Msana Wanzili, DERAILED!!! Today’s Post is a shameless shadow of its ancestor, the Post that was objective and pragmatic, the deep digger. You were probably not born then, you are excused. By the way, that recording will be another of their lies.

    • The past news paper must expire as soon as possible. This paper is against EL and HH .
EL and HH are V.I.P`s of Zambia, both are leaders be it directly or indirectly.

  3. The post are not a factor in Zambia.my appeal to all meaningful Zambians is that lets all voice out about the way post reports to this nation cos that’s misleading the nation at large.why should it put words in someone’s mouth ? that’s childish to the Fred mmeebe.we are one Zambia one nation and no post can divide us.be professional in the way u conduct your journalism and not going against your ethics.

  4. I KABWILI HE IS STRAIGHT HE CALLS A SPADE A SPADE. WE NEED MORE OF SATA TYPE HARD WORKING & READY TO TELL OFF SOMEONE WHENEVER SOMETHING GOES AMIS.THATS WHY ULYA PALYA NI DEVIL UPND WILL NEVER CHANGE TO SCORE BCOZ THERE NO MEMBERS WHO CAN DO THAT BELOW ARE NGON’GAS & COWARDS WITH VERY BIG MOUTHS FOR YAPPING NONSE TO REPRESENT THERE DEVIL HH,WAIT BANDA USED YAP EVERY SECOND BUT HE IS DOING IT EVERY SIX MONTH ASK HIM WHY.EVEN THE SO INSTITUTIONAL MANAGEMENTS ITS JUST RUMUORS EVEN WHEN FACTS ARE KNOWN ABOUT A OFFICER NO ONE WILL SAY IT IN HIS PRESENCE EG COP UNIVERSITY & UNZA. MANAGEMENT MEMBERS CANT SAY IT OUT IN PRESENCE OF THE CHANCELLOR INSTEAD THEY VE TO HIDE IN A STRIKE YOU COWARDS. WE DONT NID COWARDS.

  5. Democracy is self-adjusting. At this point, it is important to note that we must be able to protect freedoms even if we are uncomfortable with how others use them. This is the only way we will devolve governance. When is a crime a crime? Is it when it is happening, or when it is reported to the public? That should be the crux of the matter at this point. As soon as words such as ‘Top Secret’, ‘Confidential’, ‘Sacred’ are entered into the peoples’ stream you know there is trouble brewing…

  6. I look forward to when this son of bittch will no longer be in Government. We will see which mouth piece he will be using.

  7. “And for you the UPND, The Post does not like you. Their reporting has gotten out of hand and it is high time we all stood up against The Post. The newspaper is full of insults,” Mr Kambwili said this is Parliament as quoted by Lusaka Times. For the first time I totally agree with Hon. Kambwili. To all my UPND friends, when was HH last covered by The Post? The tabloid is only ready to cover UPND if suits them, open your eyes.

  8. What if I group you kambwili, Sunday Chanda, Frank Bwalya, Masumba, Mumbi Phiri together with the post., will I be wrong to say that most times I see a disservice from this group? Check yourselves and reflect and see if you all need to change.

  9. The Post’ s style of reporting has remained more or less the same over time, except during the time Mr. Sata was President. That time they lost it. Otherwise they have always been critical of government. And Kambwili enjoyed this type of reporting when he was in the opposition and MMD was on the receiving end. Kambwili should just shut up and leave Post alone. The only way to silence the Post is for Politicians to be self-less and serve with distinction and not deceit!

  10. What is alarming and frightening is to have a person deny what he is quoted to have said, if indeed he did say that. To the wise, this could be the litmus test to the health of ‘freedom of speech’.

  11. I am always suspicious of people who call for banning of newspapers. The private media has and will always have its own agenda, but also does the public media – in Zambia anyway. This Kanyelele chap has been leaned on by Davies Chama and his fellow thugs to retract the story. I am sure The Post has a tape recording of this story somewhere. The problem with Zambians is that they are cowards. They will say things behind one’s back. When they are found out, they try and deny the story, instead of just sticking to their guns. Let’s face it, Kambwili and the rest of the PF thugs are the biggest liability this country has had for years.

  12. If am not mistaken, i recall very well some 2 yrs ago the post had to denouncing hh with sorts of lies.HH issued a statement in his article to say “I DON’T READ POST NEWSPAPERNEWSPAPER BECAUSE OF IT’S UNPROFESSIONAL .”
The same ci Kambwili was against hh’s claims due to his pompous characters. Ci kambwili had to say ” hh is feeling the media’s professionalism and he’s feeling the heavy of the PF government ”
The same ci Kambwili had to call hh with sorts of names because by then the media was in favour of the PF.now what has come into Kambwili’s mind set to say the media is disservice to this country?

  13. The Post is too experienced a fabricate a story.

Kanyelele has just had his balls clamped by PF chibolya thugs and blackmailed by PF assassins.

At the Post the rule is one: if a reporter fabricates a story, they are instantly dismissed! The standards are high.

  14. KAMBWILI IS THE WORST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO THIS COUNTRY AND THE COPPERBELT, IN PARTICULAR, WHICH LOST A RAILWAY LINE FROM NDOLA TO LUANSHYA. KAMBWILI SHOULD APPRECIATE THAT THE POST GREATLY CONTRIBUTED TO HIS BEING A MINISTER TODAY. IT FOUGHT BATTLES THAT HELPED THE PF TO COME TO POWER. IT PROVIDED A PLATFORM THAT THE CHURCH, THE NGO’S, PF AND OTHER OPPOSITION PARTIES USED TO FIGHT THE 3RD TERM AND THE MMD. IT WOULD BE MALICE AND LACK OF APPRECIATION TO IGNORE OR UNDERPLAY THE IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL ROLE THAT THE POST HAS PLAYED IN PROMOTING AND DEFENDING DEMOCRACY IN ZAMBIA.
AS FOR KANYELELE: THE POST HAS TODAY PUBLISHED KANYELELE’S SIGNED STATEMENT. IF IT IS NOT GENUINE LET HIM TAKE THE POST TO COURT.

  15. Each time I see that face on a news paper, I don’t buy that paper, each time I see that face on TV, I switch to another channel, thats just how use less I believe this charector is, in this instance I have supressed my nusea just to write this comment and I am immediately surfing away from this site.

  16. I remember back in the days when PF was in opposition and Kamwbili praising the Post for their criticism of the MMD and said the Post must continue criticizing the next govt even the PF when they form govt. I bet it is different now and he cannot take it because he did not know the magnitude of the effects. He knows very well that Media through the Post can lead to what happened to the MMD and that is the fear and hence trying to have the media house closed to save them. The Post is doing a good service to the people of Zambia than the PF govt.

  17. If you dont read the post, then you not informed. However if you read the post then you are misinformed. Believe me this is what happens with this paper you are supporting. Very soon it will start on the propaganda to discredit upnd to pave way for its baby rainbow and this is when the under fives will awake from their blind support for the post.

    • I support the fundamental and inalienable freedom of speech by the:

      1. New Vision of Minister Kalaba despite their unbridled hate for opposition ;
      2. Nation of tricky dick, Richard Sakala, despite his hate for Nawakwi;
      3. Post of Fred Membe despite his strident reporting.

      Let freedom reign!!!

  18. It does not matter who it discredits my friend. If you are clean and are doing right things why the apprehension about the Post. The people will themselves judge between what the Post reports and how they feel and see things. The Post does not impose its reports on the readers. The Paper is costing K10.00 twice than any other newspaper and people are still buying.

The same thing happened with Chief Ntambu of the Lunda people of North Western. The Post produced evidence in form of a recording which was given to ZNBC and they failed to broad cast the recordings. So who is lying? The guys who give these statements are just cowards full stop. PF do not think that by retracting the statements these guys are on your side. They are just scared but wait for the right time when it comes. To…

  19. Who is kambwili to tell UPND who loves or hates them? It like al khada telling USA that Islamic state hates you so let’s work together.

    • Who the Post likes or otherwise is not the determinant of its uncontestable and non derogable right of freedom to write what, who, when and where they wish subject to civil remedies in tort.

  20. YES, I TRUST YOU FEEL THE PAIN TODAY. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HEARD AND STILL CLAIM THAT PF IS A BEMBA PARTY SARTED BY A BEMBA ONE MAN CONTROL (MHSRIP). TODAY MANY HAVE SAID WHY IS LUNGU SIDELINING US AS THOUGH HE WAS THE OWNER OF PF? I HAVE HEARD FROM MANY PEOPLE ON THE COPPER BELT SAYING TUKABADABWISHA.

SENSIBLE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GOOD MORALS ARE MOVING OUT OF THE PF AND JOINING OTHER PARTIES WHICH YOU CALL IT IS A TRIBAL PARTY. IT IS NOT TOO LONG KAMBWILI YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN WHEN YOU CALLED HH AS TRIBAL WHEN YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS A TYPICAL TRIBALIST.

  21. FYAMUKOSELA. POST NEWSPAPER PLEASE TELL US MORE WHAT IS ON THE GROUND IN CB. CHIMBWI KAMBWILI WILL NEVER EMBRACE ANY BODY AND HE IS NOT FIT TO BE THE SPOKES PERSON FOR PF. IF I WERE BA LUNGU CHAPONA, I WILL TAKE SILIYA TO BE THE MINISTER OF IMFORMATION AND THE CHIEF SPOKES PERSON.

  22. UPND uniting with PFools to attack the PFost? That will never happen. Satana and his PFools won in 2011 only because of overwhelming propaganda by the PFost. Now the PFools are getting the short end of the stick from Mmembe. Let’s wait and see the effects.

  23. U are simply reaping what u sow.Now that it doesn’t suit you.Don’t complain coz it’s pay back time.I prophesy that you will soon lose the weapon that u are relying on now and u will definitely need the very weapon u want to destroy.Take this prophecy seriously.

  24. This monkey of an Ediot( chishimba Kambwili- kapuli kakwe) is a liability to the Zambian people himself. He wants to get rid of free media. He thinks he’s pronuoncements become law simply because he’s in government.

  25. Sorry sir or did you mean that PF under Lungu is a de service to Zambia and the world at large. Kambwili shut it you are a de service to PF. Kambwili’s brain is too small as some people have said. He cannot even work out that if he talks that way about the Post then he is advertising the paper so that even babies now want to their parents to buy them the paper. What a c.u.n.t this man is. Who talk him politics? Is he from the school of SATA? Ka fridge ubunono. Is this what it means to be a government spokesman.

  26. Ba CK just ignore the Post. They have lost respect in the eyes of many and they will never regain it. Eventually they will just go into oblivion. No cause based on ill- intentions under the guise of serving the public has ever succeeded. It is a foregone conclusion that the Post is a failed project

  27. Kambwili is right….the post is just advancing the agenda of the cartel and their newly formed party the so called rainball.Of late i have never seen an article by the post praising the govt on anything.Does it mean that all that Lungu is doing is useless ? Zambians are clever people and they know what is good for them and not the trash of comments am seeing here.

    • Media is not there to praise anyone. It’s a watchdog. It informs, educates, entertains. Those who’ve been to journalism school will tell you that praising is not a subject they study.

  28. You’ve made my day ba ‘analyser’.. @ ka kambwili waba ka frigde ubunono! Ya ya ya ya ya… Iyo ni kolopaaa to all from the sangoma family. Come 2016 ni HH fye! Utu tunyelele tonse utwamwenso kuyabebele.

  29. KAMBWILI, YOU AND LIKE MINDED PEOPLE FEAR THE POST BECAUSE IT REPORTS THE TRUTH AND EXPOSES THE WRONGS IN THE COUNTRY. LOOK AT YOUR CONTROLED PAPERS TIMES AND DAILY FULL OF PRAISE FOR YOU GUYS THAT HAVE WRECKED OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. AS FOR CHASING OR SCARING INVESTORS, IT IS YOU THAT DOES THAT EACH TIME YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH IT IS ALWAYS TO ISSUE THREATS AND ULTIMAYUMS, GROW UP MAN OR GET CIVILISED. YOU ASK THE UPND TO SIDE WITH YOU? NEVER IF THEY DO THEN THEY ARE NOT WORTH VOTING FOR.

  30. Kambwili and your friends, yoy have destroyed Zambia because of greedy and lack of understanding on how government operates..You are importing Electricity from Mozambique at 18 cents and only to sale them to the mines at 2.The extension of voter registration was not provided for in the budget. You are planning to buy 6 planes ti revive Zambia airways but all these are not there in the budget. My felliw Zambia, the list is endless..pls lets wake up and vote someone with a vision.

  31. The post newspaper recently carried stories claiming that the teachers recruitment exercise by PF government was fake. But alas! The names of teachers have just been published in Daily Mail of 14th November, 2015 and am proud to say am one of them and soon I will be teaching Science at High School having graduated with a BSc in Education from UNZA . Can de post newspaper claim to be true while there are so many such lies the post has published in the past and even if the issue has been proven to the contrary, they still go on shamelessly!. What service are they rendering to the Zambians?

  32. The question to kambwili must be WHEN DOES THE POST become unprofessional. Is it when it is supporting pf or criticising. For me a politician will call the media un professional when they are being checked and very professional when they sing praises. ZNBC is a piece of trush that is very unprofessional.

  33. My advice to all those misguided individuals tempted to follow Kambwilis propaganda is that the court system is there to deal with the post if they are peddling lies. Anyone who thinks the post is harsh should ask Chelsea manager José Mourinho about the British media. It’s the price of democracy my friends. Otherwise let’s close the times, daily mail, znbc and the daily nation. Just like the post they report half truths. The worst part is that I am forced to pay znbc K3 to report propaganda. At least I can choose not to buy the post.

  34. Sorry Mr. ‘Mwe bantu’, I totally disagree with you when you say it is the price of democracy if a newspaper peddles lies. I pray that God will not allow people like you, with no knowledge of objective journalism, to own a newspaper here in Zambia in Jesus’ Mighty Name. Some papers delight in peddling lies with a view of building the name of one person at the expense of an innocent president whom they maliciously and unjustly demonize. Of course you these papers. Is this what they call objective reporting?. Even if the president makes one mistake, surely is n’t there anything good that he does for which he can be praised? After all, who is perfect here on earth?. Are these reporters perfect themselves? Abash mediocre journalism!
