The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has captured over 1.2 million new voters registrations during the first, second, third and fourth phases of the mobile just ended voter registration exercise.

The total number of newly captured eligible voters is 1,246,626, while updates during the same period were 1,235,633 and 23,783 notifications of deceased voters.

Lusaka province recorded the highest number of new voters at 241,301 followed by Southern province with 205,259 registrations.

The least registrations were recorded in North-western province where only 52,204 new voters were captured.

This is contained in a press statement released to the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) by ECZ Public Relations Manager Crispin Akufuna in Lusaka today.

Mr. Akufuna said the voter registration statistics are from 14th September to 11th November, 2015.

He has since appealed to all eligible citizens in possession of Green National Registration Cards (NRCs) to take advantage of the extended nationwide voter registration exercise for 21 days to register.

The extended period starts on 22nd and runs up to 13th December, 2015.

Mr. Akufuna explained that the voter registration exercise will continue at the civic centres in all the districts as scheduled until 31st March, 2016.

“The 14 day mobile voter registration in March, 2016, will still take place as earlier announced, on dates to be determined by the commission,” he said.

And Mr. Akufuna has reminded all persons living with disabilities to ensure that their disability is recorded by a registration officer even if they are already registered.

Mr. Akufuna also reminded the public that individuals that registered in 2005/2006 and 2010/2011 do not need to register again as their voters’ cards are still valid.

“No fee should be charged for issuance of a voters’ card and I implore the public to report any registration officer demanding any payment to register to the nearest police,” he said.

Mr. Akufuna has meanwhile warned members of the public against registering more than once stressing that any person found wanting will be prosecuted in accordance with the Regulation 37 (b) of the Electoral (Registration of Voters) Regulations of 2010.

  2. Cont’
Muchinga Province has recorded 77, 790 new registrations, 70, 392 updates, and 2, 066 death notices.

    • Northern, Eastern and Luapula for ECL
Southern, Western and Northwestern for HH
      Muchinga for Edith Nawakwi
Copperbelt (close tie between ECL and HH) but ECL will pull through because kopala hates Tongas for no real reasons. HH will still scoop CB rural but not enough to cancel out CB urban
Lusaka (close tie between ECL and HH) but HH will pull through because of Kafue, Chirundu and the jobless youths who registered en mass
Central is tricky but just like in 2015 elections HH will get the numbers with a slight edge
Easterners?? me I dont know. Please help

  3. Now here is rounded off combined totals for each province in ‘000s;
    LK: 407
    Southern: 390
    Central: 263
    Eastern: 271
    CB: 273
    Northern: 241
    Western:216
    Muchinga: 148
    Luapula: 158
    NW: 141

  4. How safe is chakolwa chagwa from this? Remember part of the Lusaka Province numbers now include Chirundu which is basically SP. Part of Central now includes Itezhi Tezhi which was SP. Central and Eastern are predominantly farming areas and might want to try their fellow farmer. There are issues in CB as we all know. Kaya just asking plus majority new voters are jobless youths let down by Chagwesha ziko.

  5. That is evidence enough to say that Chagwa Lungu tapali ichakwe. Its game over for him. Plus the Copperbelt has shifted to UPND. Lusaka (especially rural) and Central going to UPND. Eastern to be shared. Its over now for Changwa.

  6. Are the figures correct? How possible CB is on 3 and SP 2. Please check again, the figures for CB, when from history CB is always number 1 what has changed all sadden????

Answer to your question is that miners are just too hungry and angry at the same time to bother about registering…….

  7. THE HAND OF THE LORD IS WRITING ON THE WALL FOR PRESIDENT LUNGU TO SEE. POWER IS TAKEN AWAY FROM LUNGU AND PF, BECAUSE THEY HAVE ABUSED IT EXCESSIVELY. GOD IS HANDING OVER POWER TO SOMEONE ELSE. HH CONTINUE PRAYING AND REMAIN HUMBLE, GOD HAS GOOD PLANS FOR YOU. THANK YOU MR. AKUFUNA,LT AND ZEZ’EMBA FOR GIVING US THIS VITAL FEEDBACK. ZAMBIANS CAN NOW FEEL THE STRONG WIND OF CHANGE WHICH IS SWEEPING ACROSS THE COUNTRY. VIVA HH VIVA! VIVA UPND VIVA! VIVA ZAMBIA VIVA!
