Government has tasked the University of Zambia(UNZA) to manage the newly built Robert Makasa University in Chinsali District.

And the Ministry of Higher Education has since handed over the Robert Makasa University to UNZA.

Director for Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training in the Ministry of Higher Education, Alex Simumba says the Ministry resolved that UNZA is best suited to run the new University.

ZNBC’s Yotam Mugara reports that Mr. Simumba disclosed this development when a team from schools of Medicine and Education inspected infrastructure at the new University in Chinsali District.

And UNZA delegation leader, Christine Kanyengo said her institution is ready to open Robert Makasa University once all formalities with government are concluded.

And Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary, Bright Nundwe has appealed to UNZA to quickly open the University.

Mr. Nundwe said the University will not only decongest the current Universities but also bring development to the province.

  1. Robert Makasa University 🙂

I remember years back a young South African can to Australia trying to study for a masters. He had done his first degree at mangosuthu buthelezi technikon in South Africa. He was simply told the degree was not worth the paper it was written on

  2. Congratulations to all for a job well done! The first person that UNZA must second to RMU is the Interim Vice Chancellor of RMU. The role of UNZA at RMU needs a team of dedicated professional academics to sit down and elaborate a detailed and exhaustive job description. Failure to that, RMU will face insurmountable problems. issues of budget, staffing, accommodation, office space. transport, equipment, degree programs, curriculum, extra-curriculum need to be handled very carefully. This is very encouraging.

  3. My only appeal is please please let professionals run this institution even if they are not politically correct. Otherwise this is a step in the right direction even if I didn’t vote for ECL.

  4. Unza is failing to manage its own campus. How can they manage another Uni? More riots and stone throwing, maybe.

  5. how do you give a man who has failed to look after two wives a third one? A team of private entrepreneurs wold have run it maybe on a PPP basis…otherwise those Bembas in Chinsali think its a tavern. Remember to put Monkey Rearing as one of the courses. bembas cant do maths and science…ni vikopo va bantu!

    • iwe chi Kanyengo upeleke uusilu ku great east road-chainama. We shall produce technocrats to develop the eastern province kaili imwe mwenze kuzinvela ati only from the east are mad people coz UNZA ili along great east road. I praise the PF the northern region remained behind in education because selfish technocrats only concentrated in “some” regions. So Mbuya don’t worry the Bembas are not selfish and you will see the mark of education in the country from RMU. But I would pray that we leave UNZA out of RMU coz most of the lecturers have forgotten role of research and are just busy with politics nowonder we failing as a country. the Scholars are not different from cadres so lets have unpolluted and complete new team to run RMU.

  6. Congrats PF.HE Michael Chilufya did leave marks compared to other former Presidents (excluding HE KK).Sata did succeed.PF you have my vote next year.Good news the kwacha is gaining strength.

  7. Why do Zambians like to live in wishful thinking? You can’t run state hospitals, CBU and UNZA are at a complete chaos and now another dream. Fix your problems first and only when they are running well is when you move onto the next phase. You can’t pay teachers so who will be teaching our students? Then again it’s all about the contract and whom we award them to, so we can get cuts. We now know how it works.
