JONAS Shakafuswa may be expelled from the UPND for allegedly being treacherous.
Mr Shakafuswa who is Katuba member of Parliament has confirmed his impending expulsion, stating that he had been informed by some members of the party that his days in UPND were numbered.
But UPND spokesperson Charles Kakoma said Mr Shakafuswa was not facing any disciplinary action and could not be expelled without being heard.
Mr Kakoma said Mr Shakafuswa was a senior member of the UPND management committee and that if there were plans to expel the outspoken Katuba lawmaker, then it was the lower organs of the party that could have started the process.
Mr Shakafuswa’s troubles seem to emanate from an interview he gave the Daily Nation in which he said that he would not be part of a group of politicians who did not offer solutions to the governance of the country for the sake of criticizing those in leadership.
He however said he had information the UPND leadership had already written to him demanding that he exculpates himself over the story that was published in the Daily Nation in which Mr. Shakafuswa claimed that he was on demand and he would win next year’s election.
Mr Shakafusa further told the newspaper that being in opposition did not mean that he should create enemies with those in power and criticize them unreasonably.
He explained that modern politics required wisdom by offering solutions for the people of Zambia to differentiate between those with solutions and those without solutions in the management of the country.
Asked to confirm whether he had already received the disciplinary letter, Mr. Shakafuswa said he had been informed by some members about the impending action against him and that the journalists had been calling him for a comment on the matter.
He said he would not commit himself now to issue a statement until he was officially served with a letter to that effect.
On Tuesday, Mr. Shakafuswa told the Daily Nation that he would retain the Katuba seat next year because the people in the area believed in him and that all political parties in Zambia wanted his signature ahead of next year’s general elections. “The challenges this country is experiencing need concerted efforts and it is us in the opposition to offer credible and responsible checks and balances for the people of Zambia to see the difference we can offer from those in power,” he said.
“I have to be honest with you that all political parties in Zambia want my signature ahead of next year’s general elections because my constituency goes beyond Katuba,” Mr Shakafuswa said.
I dare you to resign and stand on the PF ticket, then we will know that ”Katuba people believe in you”.
He is treacherous and he knows that himself. Muselela kwakaba.
I hate unprincipled politicians like Shakafuswa. This is why we want UPND to form government so that they can change our systems so that such political prostitutes will have no chance in politics anymore. Actually both him and his brother Ephraim are sell outs.
Shakas should just go to PF. He is already flirting with the PF. He has already been baptised by the PF and that can be immediately seen by his recent unreflective and irrational behaviour. Anyone who joins the PF loses his ability to talk sense no matter how good he used to be.

Shakafuswa’s worst enemy is his mouth. Sometimes it’s a sign of paranoia and immaturity to react to every statement that relates to you. Sometimes tondolo musuma. Yapping all the time may result in one saying something that cements the accusations or impressions, misplaced regardless.
Shakafuswa is trying so hard to have himself expelled from UPND. I guess he is disappointed that despite his rants, no senior party official has said anything about him in the media. All we have seen is him squabbling with party cadres like Larry Mweetwa on social media. For goodness sake, those are low life cadres who can have their opinion on anything, they don’t speak on behalf of the supreme party organ. I think this guy wants an excuse to leave the party. Shakas you are a big guy, tame your mouth and grow up. You don’t rush to the media every time, you know HH’s number, why not engage them privately? Why are you washing dirty linen in public?

Dear Jonas, as i remember you from the Campus old days, you are self made. Those guys in UPND are never greatful and the least they can say to now is to insult you and your mother. The interview you gave to the Daily Nation has unsettled the Under 5 and his croonies even when they deep down know that you were advising them correctly.
Pomposity in UPND is their biggest cancer and you like many know for sure Zambians dont like pompous people. Shakafuswa is just unprincipled – period! He was UPND, went to MMD, back to UPND and now he is courting PF. Like it or not UPND is destined to win in 2016 and if you ever make a mistake of leaving the party now …. you will have no one to blame.

What’s clear is that Shakafuswa is pompous and big headed. He should just make up his mind and join the PFools. There’s no shame in being PFoolish.
I know Katuba. This guy is cheating himself and ungrateful. In 2011 he lost to Dr Chikusu. UPND revived his political career but he goes around boasting now. In fact the people of Katuba were at pains voting for him last year but for the love of the party they had to do it. It’s a pity the UPND keeps adopting a person with such a chameleon-like character.
