  1. Finally, I am looking forward to the first press conference tomorrow. It is long overdue considering the economic challenges the country is facing.

Hope it will be aired on radio. LT, can you do us a favor and find out so that we can tune in.

    • If people show too much interest he’ll cancel so pretend no one has even heard about the upcoming press conference. By the way, what is he going to talk about? He’s got no vision, no solutions to our economy’s problems and he would have no answers to genuine intelligent questions. He’ll feel the press conference with lazy zombies from the state media, just a waste of time.

I just wish and wish it will not be some reckless declarations

    • A welcome move, lets hope it will be honest, truthful and, one not bent on giving excuses and finger pointing! Lungu must of late sweated a lot and could be making an attempt to salvage his fortunes! Lets hope his image makers and advisers have done a good job in preparing him that he allows journalists to probe him on vexing issues!

    • Is there any reason why Ambassadors have to attend press conferences in Zambia? Ministers stay in your offices and do your work, Mr Lungu will fine.

    • A press what? Did I hear right? Well, expect a heavy down pour in Zed, even snow!! But its a right move, or should I say, long over due!

Can our representatives, journalists please ask all the questions we bloggers have been asking about all the time. Lets wait and see if the president will stand the pressure or will crumble!!

Mr President, please answer all questions honestly and not that KK style of “Stupid question, stupid minister, next question!” Good luck Mr President.

    • I have read a number of comments and im surprised at how many are celebrating about this Press Conference as if they are being Ruptured from eminent Judgement!!! Are we that used to receiving nothing that anything is something? For those of us that have been following the economic woes in Zed know that this is some type of damage control. Its called “Politics”. No real issues will be resolved or dealt with other than the same blame game!

Dont be disappointed because he wont answer any relevant questions. Time for a Press Conference is long gone, not that he should cancel this one, but its kinda too little too late..

President Lungu-ChikondeThe opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has called on President Lungu to call for a press conference and address the nation over the state of the economy.

UPND Chairperson for Rural Development Mapani Moono says the President cannot keep quiet when so many things have gone wrong in the country.

Moono says it is prudent that the Head of State addresses the nation and tells the people how his government intends to deal with the economic challenges the country is grappling with.

Moono says the people expect President Lungu to tell them what long-term measure his government is putting in place to deal with the continued weakening of the Kwacha, the high fuel prices, load shedding, and other challenges.

  5. Agenda: HH, HH and more HH and a bit of GBM and how opposition is politisising the issue of the mines, all that is happening is not his fault, it is global, why do people hate me? Do i have control of the copper prices? China’s economy is slowing down, don’t allow the UPND to lie to you, HH sold the mines, he is responsible for the suffering of the miners bla bla bla bla, and then after receiving questions from ZNBC, Times, Daily Mail journalists he’s gonna go on holiday. You are too late chappie! After saying that you do not need to hold a press conference coz Kamwbili and Chanda have been doing a great job of it, what has changed??

  8. UPDATES FROM TANZANIA POST ELECTION ACTIVITIES

Last weekend they were opening parliament and there was a state dinner planned for all guests that was going to cost about 300m. President Magulufi cut the budget to 25m and ordered that the rest be taken to buy hospital beds for Muhimbili they got 300 beds and mattresses and 600 bed sheets from that money.

On 23rd Nov 2015 he announced that there will be no official ceremonies for Independence Day on 9th December, the money is to be used for more pressing issues and the day should instead be spent cleaning up our environment.

On Saturday 21st nov 2015 a group of 50 people were about to set off for a tour of commonwealth countries (don’t know for what) but President Magulufi cut that list down to 4 people, saving government 600m in…

No more foreign travel, embassies will take care; if it’s necessary to go, special permission must be sought from him or Chief Secretary

No more 1st class and business class travel for all officials except President, Vice, and Prime Minister.

No more workshops and seminars in expensive hotels when their so many ministry board rooms available.

President Magulufi asked how come engineers are given V8s when a pick-up is more suitable for their jobs.

No more sitting allowances, how the hell are you paid allowance for a job which you have a monthly salary; that also applies to MP’s.

President Magulufi has literally pressed the reset button; returning Tanzania to default factory settings, because that was the TZ Nyerere left us with…

    • Now Tanzania’s Mugufuli is what I call a proper President with Vision, & the interests of the suffering masses at heart.
Had Lungu started his reign like this, he would not even have needed to campaign for 2016, as Zambian’s would have voted for him for his proactive Vision & policies.
Unfortunately President Lungu is the direct opposite of President Mugufuli, & the evidence is there for all to see.

  11. On the day after he was brought to power, in the morning as State House officials were showing him round he decided to take a walk to ministry of finance, told them to get their act together, asked why some employees weren’t in office (ever since then the traffic jam in mornings has become worse) and ordered TRA to scrap all tax exemptions, everyone must pay taxes especially the big guys

President Magulufi went to Muhimbili Hospital unannounced and walked thru the worst parts that they keep hiding from important visitors he fired the director, fired the hospital board and ordered that all machines that weren’t working (so that people go to private hospitals owned by some doctors) to be repaired within 2 weeks otherwise he fires even the new director; the machines were repaired in 3…

Finally, last week when going to officially open parliament President Magulufi didn’t go by plane, drove the whole 600km from Dar to Dodoma.

President Magulufi has reduced the size of the presidential convoy, even reduced the size of presidential delegation that travels with him

President Magulufi chose a Prime Minister we haven’t heard of before, a guy with reputation for hard work and no corruption all the big guys we expected could be PM have been let wondering what hit them.

His motto is: Hapa Kazi Tu

  13. Kachemas, kachemas, kachemas nothing works for you especially from PF nd Lungu. ECL is not as dull as your HH. Checkout what will be rolled tomorrow from people that know governance. Not this ranting nd noise we hear from Under 5s who ve never been in government before. Go ECL,Go ECL Go.

    • @La Liga: What has the Press Conferrence to do with HH or ECL being more intelligent than HH. ECL is the Republican President (not only PF president) and it is his duty to regularly inform the nation on what is happening in the country and how Govt is addressing the problems people are facing. ECL was never in Govt prior to 2011 but he is the Republican President so your arguement on HH is not well supported. Just debate issues, not this obvious blind support of those in power, you are a let down to the literate well meaning PF supporters.

    • what has he done so far? Look at his Tanzanian counterpart. Action to Liberate the suffering Tanzanians are already bearing fruits. your chagwa is kuwayawaya or trying an error leadership. just accept that he has failed and find another candidate in PF for 2016. why pretending sha.

    • @La Lig.. Debate issues at hand.. The article is about Press Conference, not the Opposition, HH, etc. Do we have to remind you every day about this. Did you even read the whole article or you simply guessed what its about? Just put Miles Sampa as PF leader and see whether or not the masses wont support PF..

  15. We then wonder why the country is on its knees???
Characters like “La Liga” who obviously lack grey matter, & crucial analytical thinking appear to be in the majority in Zambia, where mediocrity & sub standard governance is seen, & accepted as the norm.
Brain dead La Liga, before you offered your shallow perspective, have you seen how fellow African’s north of you in Tanzania, have chosen a leader.
Maybe if you elected quality leadership, your mental poverty may finally get cured!

Personally I cannot compare Sata and Magufuli because Sata started by increasing his own salary and building his retirement home. Magufuli is a rare kind of a leader in Africa.
