President Edgar Lungu has commended Vice President Inonge Wina for mobilising enough support that resulted into the two constitution making bills going through second reading in parliament yesterday.

President Lungu thanked Mrs. Wina, who is the leader of the government business in the house and Members of Parliament that supported the constitution amendment bills number 16 and 17.

The President said this at State House during a press conference today.

The ruling party yesterday managed to garner the required two thirds majority vote for the constitution bills to pass second reading stage.

The Head of State said the support demonstrated by Members of Parliament in the house yesterday was a right step towards coming up with a constitution that will stand the test of time.

Mr. Lungu has since appealed to MPs to refrain from engaging in unnecessary confrontation but rather find common ground where they agree and move the process forward of constitution making.

And President Edgar Lungu has directed all business houses operating in Zambia to stop pricing their goods and services in U.S dollars.

The President says the practice is illegal and unjustifiable.

President Lungu has since directed the Bank of Zambia and the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the ban on quoting in US dollars is backed by law.

Addressing his first Press Conference at State House this afternoon, President Lungu noted that dollarization has triggered inflation which he said is rising at an artificial rate.

And President Lungu said the policy measures taken by the Central Bank are yielding positive results and giving a positive future outlook for the local currency.

President Lungu said the Kwacha has posted a steady appreciation over the past few weeks because of measures taken by Bank of Zambia.

  1. Well done well meaning parliamentarians for putting country ahead of personal interests. This is called maturity. Zambia needs a new constitution and the parliament has a big role to play

  2. WHERE ARE THOSE IDIYOTS WHO WERE SAYING LUNGU JUST WANTS THE CONSTITUTION PROCESS TO FAIL BY SENDING IT TO PARLIAMENT? AND THIS GRAND COALITION STATEMENT THEY MADE WHICH HAD NO FACTS BUT JUST INSINUATIONS AND MALICE… i DO NOT EVEN LIKE LUNGU, BUT, CRITICISM IS DIFFERENT FROM MALICIOUS HATE SPEECH.
