UPND president Hakainde Hichilema interacts with marketeers in Marapodi township

UPND is ready to thwart any scheme by the ruling Patriotic Front to rig elections next year, says party president Hakainde Hichilema.

But Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has advised Mr Hichilema to avoid early celebrations in next year’s general elections.

Mr. Hichilema said the party functionaries would stop the PF from rigging the election was inevitable.

He claimed that the people of Zambia were behind the UPND in its effort to form government next year, saying the opposition was the only party that had the interest of the people of Zambia at heart.

“The PF can only win next year’s election if they rigged but we are prepared to stop them from rigging. The people are willing and ready to stop the way the PF run government.

They want a complete change of doing politics by bringing in people who are focused,” Mr Hichilema said.

But Mrs Phiri said Mr Hichilema should avoid causing unnecessary panic over unverified results as was the case in this year’s presidential by-election.

She said the UPND should wait for official declaration of the winner and not start dreaming about State House.

“I want to warn UPND and their people that come next year they should not launch early celebrations and cause unnecessary panic on the people as it was the case this year in the presidential by-election this year. They should wait for official announcement of the winner, they should also know that they should stop dreaming of being in State House,’’ Mrs Phiri said.

She said the UPND should be calm and relaxed and should maintain peace during next year’s election in order to pave way for President Edgar Lungu’s return to the presidency.
Mrs Phiri also said the current high numbers of voters registering in Lusaka and Copperbelt was an indication that the PF would win the elections.

‘’We are encouraged by the high numbers of voters who have registered in Lusaka and Copperbelt, for us this means that our President stands a very good chance to win again,’’ she said.

Mrs Phiri said the top three provinces with the highest turnout in voter registration which were Lusaka, Copperbelt and Eastern province were strongholds of the ruling party and PF was likely to maintain its popularity in those areas. She said it should worry the opposition UPND that many people in those areas were turning up in huge numbers to register.

Mrs Phiri said Southern Province would have recorded high numbers of voters registering but it would not be compared to the three provinces which were not the only places where PF received support.

She said it would be very disappointing for HH to be abandoned in areas like Southern Province and other places where he assumed he has support.

  1. Why would someone sober himself by threats? If he has the capacity to thwart rigging he better remain silent than scaring the world that if PF wins then there was rigging. Any sober reasoning here?

    • PF is worried about losing Copperbelt that’s why all their so called infrastructure development has only been left for CB. PF was warned that basing their entire campaign solely on roads built on borrowed money is not sustainable. Te apa…the debt has caught up with you. Viva HH 2016, this will be unstoppable

    • Please stop humiliating yourself with alarmist schemes all in hope of succeeding to sabotage a rebounding national economy. Such schemes to fuel a sense of instability and prospective investor fear, may fail and hurt you instead the more. Instead, Zambians cognizant of your excessive love for power with desperation may just take you for unpatriotic comedian who deserve to be re-sized by the people themselves as patriots. • The things that would make me vote Lungu and PF in 2016:

      1. Enact people driven constitution
      2. Repeal public Order Act
      3. Reduce mealie meal prices to RB level
      4. Scrap borrowings to LP Mwanawasa times
      5. Reduce inflation to single digit
      6. Reduce prices of goods and services
      7. Do not remove subsidy on electricity

    • We need all the results from each constituency photographed by independent monitoring team from the UN to stop PF from tempering with the results.

UPND should ask for over 1000 UN monitors to be sent to all polling stations and counting should be done at each polling station to avoid possible rigging during ballot transit time.

UN team should also supervise the verification and totalling of results at Mulungushi centre

Only UN supervised results will be credible in the 2016 Zambian elections. Any thing short of such will be a farce.

July 21, 2011 (Zambia Daily Mail)

PRESIDENT Banda yesterday commissioned the construction of the US$2 billion Kafue Gorge Lower Hydro-electric Power Station which will add 750 megawatts of power to the national grid once completed in 2017.

The project, which will create about 300 direct jobs for indigenous Zambians, is being implemented under the public- private partnership made up of Zesco, Sino Hydro Corporation and the China Africa Development Fund.

  3. Let not the politics and happenings spread hate. If you are in any of the 2 parties, simply go and register, if you don’t feel your vote alone is enough to help your candidate win, source the help of family members, friends, ancestor’s etc. That way other than than issuing threats and creating enermity and all , each one of us will know we contributed to putting the right leaders in office be it leader A or B. It doesn’t pay to sound intelligent and still not vote. If a leader you had faith in winning, loses, don’t give up, join the people campaigning for him in whatever place you are, that way when they win, you will be more proud you contributed to the ascension of your preferred candidates.

Which mental institution has she escaped from?

That PF can appoint such a dimwit as a deputy secretary general just proves how incompetent and confused they are!

If she was fired for ignorance and brainlessness there might be some hope for PF, but with her around PF is GARUNTEED TO LOSE!

Please keep her Mr Lungu. Then for sure you will be out in 2016!!!!!!

  5. I always get dismayed when I hear a political outfit presiding over matters such as electioneering and even legislation. It is a sign that there is still no confidence in our institutions – in this case our Elections’ Commission. What will it take to actually allow institutions to work independent of political shenanigans?

  7. LUNGU SCHEMING TO TEMPER WITH GRADE 7 RESULTS ANALYSIS TO BOOST HIS DIMINISHING CHANCES OF RE ELECTION NEXT YEAR.

Reports we are receiving from the Ministry of Education Sources are indicating that Grade 7 results are out. However, the performance is very poor but the President has directed the ECZ and Ministry of Education to see how best they can push the performance percentage from 43% to about 56%. The president is worried that any poor results for Grade 7, 9 and 12 will increases his chances of losing elections to HH next year. Secondary School Teachers across the country will be selecting the 2016 Grade 8 intake this week in all districts of Zambia. The G7 Results will be officially announced this week. The President is extremely desperate.

  9. The Accurate source…. your thinking is shallow minded. Why do you people always think of politics? Even late picking your kids from sch if at all you have, it’s PF or HH…have a life and think straight. Let a right candidate win, your task is to campaign or do anything to increases chances of your candidate to win.
Back to HH, outright saying he is winning is not
right. Why are we having election when we have the winner already? Do your party HH, campaign and convince people that you are the right candidate, but remember your friends are equally in the game so don’t be over confidence my man, you can have a shock when the results turn the way round.

  11. Deep down all PF Members including Mumbi Phiri and Edgar Lungu know that the PF has lost popularity in Lusaka and Copper belt Province. Edgar Lungu was badly booed by the Copperbelt Province when he tried to visit the Province two months ago.
Meanwhile, HH received a Hero’s welcome, much to the disappointment of Edgar Lungu such that he ended firing all Tonga Senior Police Officers to replace them with his tribesman.
2016, will be remembered as the year when Lungu attempted to commit suicide wen he loses next year to HH.
EDGAR LUNGU WILL LOSE TERRIBLY IN 2016. TAPALI ICHAKWE LUNGU.

  14. I used to think HH was serious about this president thing .But now I know he is another CHAMACHAKOMBOKA. I ve the following reasons why HH is LOSING next year;
    (1) HH still remains in the mind of a larger voting population as a shetanist. This definitely will weigh against him because ocultism in Zambia is practised by a few people.
    (2) Many people feel HH has not provided the necessary checks nd balances that Sata gave MMD when in opposition. HH has now been known for vague criticism and unreasonable rantings e.g opposing infrastructure development.
    (3) The masses know the causes of these economic challenges. Any politicking in this area would only hoodwink the blind who cant see.
    (4) ECL is incharge, unlike it were in the past.He has the machinery at his disposal and this gives him…

    • La Liga you are surely a grade 7 drop out..you clearly lack the intellect to critically analyse the contemporary political landscape of the republic. You belong to the social group we refer to as the Lumpen Proletariat in Socialist political theory. These include people like pimps, prostitutes,Uninformed political cadres, tramps, con artists, wheelers and dealers, call boys, mishanga sellers, etc.I would suggest you desist from even commenting on this fora as your mediocrity is nauseating.

    • Laliga stop yapping .Why are you commenting on HH if he is not a factor. The difference between Lungu and HH in 2015 was only 1%.Now not even the supreme court or electoral Commission will save Lungu. We are very ready to defend our votes.Let me asure Zambians who will vote for HH and UPND that your votes will be safe.We shall have a system and machinery all over Zambia to ensure no one rigs.Any attempt will attract death.

  15. Continued;
    An upper hand.
    (5) TRIBALISM and REGIONALISM;The voting pattern has not changed and it is purely based on tribalism and regionalism. However, this doesnt favour HH because his support base covers only three(3) regions. Besides,PF re using Southern Province results to campaign in their strongholds. This surely will affect their performance in these areas. To say the ground has shifted to UPND is naivety and myopic because each time there’s such signs come out for everone to see,but thats not the case.
Come 2016,I see ECL thumping HH With a huge margin.

    • @Laliga to base elections in the copperbelt and Lusaka to be based on Tribalism is wishfull thinking.Copperbelt and Lusaka are cosmopolitan towns.people are mixed and they have inter married .KK lost not because of Tribalism ,Zambians can unite when they see that Poverty has become un beareable. It will be about who can deliver.Stop this tribe bull shit.It will not work.

  19. PF is not rigging next year’s polls but they are winning. Though they have lamentable failed, they will win. The reason is that you can’t have this unreasonable fragmentation of UPND, Green party, FDD, Christian democratic party, people’s party, poor peoples party, MMD, Sondashi party, Narep, Revolution party, heritage party and so many others. You split votes like that and you come crying that PF has rigged. Nizanu izo.

    0

    0
    • Nonsense! How did Sata win in light of all fragmentation? People, quit making useless analyses. Just because some yoyo once said the opposition was fragmented doesn’t make it predictor of election outcome. You need to base your assertions on empirical evidence. Conduct a study first. That’s what Chirwa did.

      0

      0
  20. In fact Edgar is smiling at this fragmentation and is confidently saying he is winning next year’s polls. No ideological difference between parties but just ambition by each one to be President. No opposition party should bore us with the PF rigging story when Edgar scoops the presidency next year

  21. HH the leader of the tribal UPND party will never win elections in Zambia.Look at today,s Post newspaper. These guys are too sensitive to tribe. They are using a few controversial chiefs to revive the infamous tribal talk. They are actually decampaigning themselves in reality by defending wrong doers on tribal grounds.

  22. Strong indicators favour HH in 2016. Unless ECZ extends voting in pf strongholds while they fidget with the results from other areas, like what happened in jan 15 byelection. Watch out why Ecz has allowed voter registration at civic centres only until march 2016. It is solely to manipulate figures.

    • EL nakedly rewarded those who made it possible for him to become president. HH has a reason to suspect foul play. Take our lame duck chief justice. Her conscious is heavy. That’s why she has not done a thing about judicial reforms since she ascended to the throne. She’s as quiet as a nacisungu.

      0

      0
    • I doubt that. PF is very strong in Luapula, Muchinga, Eastern and Northern; and fairly strong in Lusaka and Copperbelt ( if it’s losing in Lusaka and Copperbelt, then it’s not by a very big margin. The margin will be swallowed by the votes they will get in the four provinces mentioned above and from the little they will get in UPND’s strongholds).

      0

      0
  23. The up and down party are overrating themselves because they have registered underage children to vote for them in southern province on tribal lines. They think other provinces are sleeping and not seeing their scheme.I don’t think even the 500kg man being used as bait to hoodwink the people from the north will work at all.

  24. Same old song Upnd. The guilty are afraid, it is Upnd which is making a futile attempt at rigging by telling lies to the people. Straight winning has eluded them and now they want to attempt rigging. Sorry Upnd the donchi Kubeba which you copied is a one time strategy, it is not renewable like solar. How can Upnd put so much confidence in fleeting events like the world economy? It’s like a graph, you should base your predictions and conclusions on the general trend, not the blips and dips sitting on a straight line, any mathematician will tell you that blips are due to errors of measurement.

Is this the same lady who was saying that she could not have a child with people like GBM, men with pot-bellies? Sugar daddies have been known to be nice and she’s discriminated them as well. 30. HH will win by landslide and PF insiders knows this. Unless Pf performs magic in 2016 otherwise I see it not carrying the day. The worsening economy is the reason why PF will loose. The landscape has strongly shifted. It is sad on the Copperbelt and some parts of Lusaka. Most die hard PF have shifted camps to opposition. Currently the party the Zambian people have hope in is UPND.

Otherwise unless PF riggs the 2016 polls i dont see them retaining power. Below is the analysis
    Eastern – PF
Lusaka – 50/50 (PF and UPND)
    Copperbelt – UPND
    Southern – UPND
    Western – UPND
    North Western – UPND
    Muchinga – PF
    Northern – PF
    Central – PF/UPND
    Luapula – PF

However, UPND will win by a small margin. It will be tight election so to speak.

Are sincerely saying Edgar Lungu is the one who has caused the copper prices to go down on the world market, hence the mining firm reducing costs and one of the costs being labour costs. Are we saying Edgar Lungu is the one who has dried up the Kariba dam? Come on Zambians you are too smart to sink so low just because of your preference. Why don’t we talk about previous government’s failure to plan for the future. If those who want regime change would come from this angle then bring up practical suggestions on how they would have address the current economic challenges, then I would listen to them, not just sheer hatred for President Lungu.
