THE Patriotic Front (PF) mobilisation team has appealed to three Southern Province chiefs to concentrate on development issues instead of making incessant attacks on the party’s secretary-general.

Chairperson Paul Moonga said chiefs Monze, Sinazongwe and Hamusonde allegedly want to do everything possible to demonise PF secretary-general Davies Chama and President Lungu.

“I am Tonga myself and I originate from Chief Chongo’s chiefdom, but I want to say that attacks on Mr Chama are unfounded and have no blessings of the Tonga people,” he said.

Mr Moonga was speaking at a press briefing at the PF secretariat in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr Moonga said attacks on Mr Chama are being perpetrated by one of the chiefs in collaboration with the United Party for National Development (UPND).

He said the mobilisation team has been observing for some time now how some chiefs have always been commenting on Mr Chama despite having had audience on the matter with the head of State.

Mr Moonga said apart from that, Vice-President Inonge Wina apologised in Parliament to the people of Southern Province over the alleged offensive remarks by Mr Chama.

“Under normal circumstances, Chief Hamusonde should have declared interest when he was picked to chair the Davies Chama/Tonga impasse meeting because his interests are known; he is a UPND supporter,” Mr Moonga said.

Mr Moonga also appealed to chiefs in Southern Province to refuse to be used by their colleagues who have partisan interests.

“It is not normal in our culture; when the head of State has met chiefs that some of them could start issuing press statements on the same issue. Even us, the subjects [people] have been quiet for some time. But now, we have no choice but to speak through the media.

“The silence of Mr Chama does not mean that he is guilty, he is not. He is quiet because the head of State has taken over the matter and the Vice-President apologised on his [Mr Chama’s] behalf in Parliament,” he said.

He said there are serious developmental issues in the country that the chiefs could dwell on instead of attacking Mr Chama. Mr Moonga cited foot-and-mouth disease, child marriage, HIV and AIDS among other issues that require a lot of attention from traditional leaders.

  1. “I am Tonga myself and I originate from Chief Chongo’s chiefdom, but I want to say that attacks on Mr Chama are unfounded and have no blessings of the Tonga people,” he said.Unfounded? The guy is on record of having had said that even if YOU Tongas, you Mr. Moonga included, produce many babies through your polygamous marriages you will not win the elections.

  2. I think Davies Chama is not in government! He is the custodian of pf matters and to keep dragging the fight against his statement as though he was representing government when he uttered it is looking for issues where there is none!

  3. Comment: It is in their blood , they want it at their cost instead of appreciating Gods time. They are busy being partisan and we are watching.

    • UFO,

Yesos Kristos, a little lanky looking Hispanic boy, told you over 2000 years ago that he was coming back soon; aren’t you still waiting?

  4. “I am Tonga myself and I originate from Chief Chongo’s chiefdom, but I want to say that attacks on Mr Chama are unfounded and have no blessings of the Tonga people,” he said.UNFOUNDED?

  5. Yesterday I decided to torture myself and watch sunday interview on znbc featuring mumbi phiri. When asked about comments made by her and davis chama her pathetic excuse was mwanawasa was called cabbage but Lambas did not protest and Sata was called CNP but Bembas did not protest. What an pathetic way of defending their tribal talk. I found her tone and general arrogance very repulsive even as a northerner myself.

  6. Is this the pot calling the kettle black?

If these chiefs want to criticize they have every right to do so. Donchi kabeba is a PF tool to hoodwink Zambians.

  7. Tribalism will take us Nowhere.
What is even sadder is that beneficial development projects in Southern Provincince are not even being appreciated only because of tribalism.

    • They are not being appreciated because where there is a single project, 5 to 10 of similar projects could have been carried out but due to PF corruption and incompetence, only one is carried out. So you still want people to celebrate incompetence, inefficiencies, and wastage of national resources? To hell with your tribalism.

    • In any case, that is what government is ought to do. Don’t allow government to exist for itself, but development. Galamukani!

  8. Pual Monga needs to be surmoned by Tonga chiefs. He is too small to start talking of issues concerning the entire tribe.Chama did not insult HH but all the Tonga people that’s why Chiefs felt offended. The issue should not be triviolised.

  9. this paul moonga chap is very dull..i wonder who taught him at primary..kekekekeke..chama is a red lipped and sick..mad person who hates Tongas..

  10. CHAMA THE PROBLEM WITH TONGAS IS THAT THEY ARE THE MOST PRIMITIVE GROUP OF PEOPLE SO LET THEM CRY BUT COME 2016.

NO WONDER THEY ARE REGISTERING 5 YEARS OLD CHILDREN SO THAT THEY CAN VOTE HOPING TO WIN 2016 BUT THE TRUTH IS THAT UPND WILL LOSE AS USUAL.

  11. @ SIDO MARK
What is special about you imwe naimwe? Does it mean that when people ignore you then you begin to force them to recognize you? Just chill, Southern Province is just a place full of people called Zambians and nothing is special about it so I wonder why certain chaps want to die crying.

  12. I don’t see any sincerity in the apology given by the VP in Parliament because if PF was sincere they should have ask Mr Chama to apologise himself publicly he was not speaking for PF when he uttered those words against Tongas it was personal and not to Parliament but to Tongas why should the VP therefore apologies to Parliament on his behalf as if he insulted and offended the house? why not let him humble himself and face the Tongas own his own. Tongas are still aggrieved because he has not apologised officially to them. I am from Eastern myself but I don’t think Mr Moonga is genuine maybe he has been bought.
