A THIRTEEN- year- old girl has appeared in a Kitwe magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a school bag from Shoprite checkers.

The girl, was charged with theft after she allegedly stole a school bag valued at K 64.99 property of Shoprite checkers on November 19, this year.

According to the record, the girl went into Shoprite around 18:40 hours, picked the bag but was intercepted at the exit point by a security guard who noticed that she did not pay for it.

The juvenile offender appeared before magistrate Ruth Kapulo, where she pleaded guilty and said she wanted to use the bag for school requirements.

When asked if she understood the charge, the girl admitted the charge and informed the court that she had no claim of right to the bag because she did not pay for it.

She said she knew that her action was an offence but that she was in a confused state.

The court matter was adjourned to December 2, this year for a social welfare report.

  1. Please let her go!
As we speak there are Politicians being pardoned for embezzling Millions, & these politicians are not hungry in any way, just Pure Greed!!

    • The Girl is in True desperation, They should pardon her and warn her of consequences to stealing. Shop-rite Management send your Bank details so that I pay for the Bag. it is sad that our people can get to this desperation.

  2. Looking at her age and the desperation in the country as a result of poverty, the girl should be pardoned with a serious reprimand never to commit a similar offence, let alone any other criminal offence again. It is sad that things like this are happening in this country.

  3. The child is a minor and can therefore, not be charged in court. This is wrong and case must be discharged immediately. There are other corrective measures for juveniles but certainly not to appear in court as a minor

  4. Fred Mmembe has stolen our tax money and he is not in court. Rupiah Banda stole our money and he is not in court. Dora Siliya stole our money and she is not in court.
If I had a dog and it barked only at small children and not adults I would get rid of it. If I had a government that arrested only juveniles and left adult crooks scot free……..
