ZAMBIA National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) has commended President Lungu for ordering the Ministry of General Education to pay teachers rural hardship allowances.

ZNUT Deputy Secretary General Catherine Chinunda said the move would increase the pupil teacher ratio in rural areas which was currently very bad.

Ms Chinunda said most teachers were shunning deployment in rural areas because the Ministry of Education was in the past reluctant to give them hardship allowances.

The President made this directive when he met representatives from Teacher Unions in Mkushi recently.

She said the President’s move was welcome and that it would improve the education standards in the country because teachers would now be empowered making it easy for them to execute their duties diligently.

There is need for government to deploy more teachers in rural which still had challenges because most newly recruited teachers declined working in these areas due to the various hardships they were facing.

“The President’s move will improve the education standards because most teachers will accept rural deployment,” she said.

Ms Chinunda said the ministry of education had in the past claimed they had no money to give teachers that were plying their trade in rural areas and other far flung areas of Zambia.

“The ministry of general education has in the past said it had no money to give teachers that were in rural areas,” she said.

Ms Chinunda said giving teachers their hardship and settling allowances would help boost their morale which was usually affected due to the conditions in these areas.

She urged the ministry of education to consider expediting the allocation of the allowances because most rural areas lacked teachers.

“I would like to urge the ministry of general education to consider expediting the allocation of such allowances to the affected teachers in order to improve the education standards,” she said.

  1. Why were the allowances not paid in the first place?

Teachers ,teachers of all the people why should you believe Lungu ‘s word. These allowances will be cancelled once he wins and tell you all to sacrifice for the sake of the economy. What will do about it? Nothing apart from crying foul again just like you cried when Sata promised you more money in your pockets and then cancelled all allowances.

Even if he has promised you this, but getting them you will sweat and spend a lot of money bribing ministry of finance officials to process your tuma allowances.

I strongly warn you not buy PF ‘s cheap electioneering tricks. We have been here before. How many promises has Lungu fulfilled apart from impoverishing you dismally?

If you buy Lungu ‘s lies, it will only get worse folks…

    • You can’t even appreciate good things. Teachers vote for ECL Who has your welfare at heart and ignore the UPND cynics

    • Wanzelu aka me (Larry Mweetwa). You were brought up well in a Christian manner in Macha but I don’t know how you diverted from the teachings of BIC. I don’t know how you got yourself so full of hatred for fellow human beings or in the name of politics. It seems once people leave Simulangu village, evil gets into them. You have fallen in the same trap as your brother Ral..h Mweetwa. The trap of evil. Please Larry get back to normal. Do civilised poltics not these politics of hatred, of insulting people. Nda mana.

For a better Zambia please vote UPND and HH.

    • Me Voting for HH..Can’t NEVER!!!!! He still needs 10 years more to mature politically and we also want him to play an active role in reconciling Tongas and Bembas whom he has managed to divide during him term as UPND President. That is when we shall consider him for presidence.

  3. This move by the president should be highly recommend.I think even all security wings and defence this move must be extended to them.

  4. Ignorance & backwardnesses at play again, which District or Province is &/ or not receiving this dismal red cent? This allowance has been always there please to all deserving Teachers unless to ghost-teachers!What’s there is that the amount/allowance to just too small, the ideal radical approach was/is to increase the the allowance to encourage & motivate these so called teachers teaching in dilapidated ancientic & pathetic environments!

  5. This is what happens to a nation used to begging!! THE ALLOWANCE IS YOUR MANDATORY EARNING, it doesn’t come from chagwa’s pocket, so WHY ARE YOU THANKING HIM???? The St..upi.dity of zambians at play!!

  6. Ba ECL, you are now confusing me; what i know is that the rural hardship allowance is being applied as we speak now. the problem is that its too small. now you are directing MOGE to implement something that is there? this reminds me of the time you commissioned a Hydro station which was already commissioned. anyway, i blame this on his advisers not the president per se. you people surrounding the president are not doing him a favour – surely even for small things that only takes a phone call you are subjecting him to all this embarrassment. i am also surprised that the ZNUT can jump on the band wagon of people commending the president instead of stating what is the current situation to him. this speaks volumes of the union leaders you people called teachers have.
