On death and it’s meaning -The Case of Edwin Kuchunga Simusamba

God never gets it wrong. His timing is always right!

It is only our perception of things that is usually wrong. We hardly understand things. And death is one of them.It is so unfortunate that he died, we say about the passing of someone we knew.
Utter nonsense!

What is so unfortunate is not the passing itself but, that whilst the now dead person lived, we never saw them, never fully appreciated their presence.Kindly note that God reveals Himself through all the people we come in contact with. This happens everyday everywhere in the world. When we see Him through them we are supposed to then become His witnesses. But often we miss this.

That we miss it is the most unfortunate thing about our existence. It is one of the saddest things in the world today.

Pilgrim, kindly note that the only thing that makes sense in this life, whether you agree or not, is to live in accordance with our Maker’s will […God’s will]. Read this again and again. Then understand its meaning. It will take you a while but please do.

Dr.Banda discussing death with UPNdD and president Hakainde Hichilema and GBM at the funeral of Kuchunga Simusamba
Dr.Banda discussing death with UPNdD and president Hakainde Hichilema and GBM at the funeral of Kuchunga Simusamba

This is what I told Hakainde Hichilema today:

Kuchunga Simusamba was one of the UPND’s finest warriors. He stood by you for many years. He saw through you a better Zambia. He was one of your most ardent and vocal advocates.
He stood by you. He wanted you to be the Republican President of Zambia. He was brave. He was intelligent. He was diligent. He was fearless. He valued merit. He was a thinker. He was a strategist. He persevered. He was the counterbalance that you need. The greatest tribute you will pay this man is to be aware of the values that Kuchunga Simusamba represented and for you to promote them. You are what you are today partly because of the life of this man.God revealed Himself before you through this man.
‘A quiet and pensive Hakainde Hichilema just stared at me.

We are here today; and gone tomorrow, my friends. We are all Pilgrims. We are all God’s vessels, specifically designed and made to manifest only His magnificence.
The only thing that makes sense for you and me, Pilgrim, is OBEDIENCE.

Life is a relay. We are members of one team. We must each play our roles. And we must do this well. The victory that we shall attain in the end belongs to all of us. And though the end result is a veritable product of our collective effort, it is not possible for all of us to witness the end.

Run your race, Pilgrim. Fight you fight, Pilgrim.
Serve your purpose…and be at peace with your lot, service.Soon, your hour of departure will also come. That is just the way it is.When your purpose is served, God will detach you. He will withdraw you.Nonetheless, your spirit will remain.Death is an integral part of life.Take heed, Pilgrim.

Kuchunga Simusamba was one of the best chess players Zambia has ever produced. He represented his country well at many fora at home and abroad […Russia, etc]. Ask Amon Simutowe and Chitalu Chilufya […Deputy Minister of Health].May His Spirit Continue To Inspire Us [MHSCTIU].Don’t talk to me about MHSRIP! That’s nonsense! Ask me next time you see me!
Take my hand, Pilgrim. We have got our fight to fight; our baton to run with.
Aluta continua!

    • Well said Dr.Banda..You have given me something to think about.I like MHSCTIU may his soul continue to inspire us.We see the different faces or aspects of God in the people we meet each day and we are in turn to bless others. It’s a hard pill to swallow why a man with a young wife and young children has to die,but whether I understand or not God is God and His thoughts are higher than my thoughts.

  1. I salute one gallant soldier of economic liberation. He fought a good fight.HH and Team do not be shaken it must be a reason to work hard to fulfill the wished of Kachunga simusamba.Uluta continua

  2. indeed Thanks Veep what I loved about Kuchunga is the ability of him to think he was a thinker on politics and understood politics from different dispensations(Geo-political and home). How he used to explain and combine his knowledge on Geo-politics to the local context was a marvel this could make you want to listen to him I hope UPND manages to find someone of his like if they form Govt. coz that will change the entire trajectory of politics in the office Kuchunga held. We honor God for your works Kuchunga till we meet again in Glory MYSRIP buddy.

  3. You have ministered to me Dr C Banda, the Vice President of UPND. Unfortunately many people prefer politics to words of love / the Creator.See apathy on this wonderful article but if it was about politics many could have commented.

    • Wisdom. I agree with you. The problem is that some of us confess Christianity but we are not believers and refuse the power that lies therein. Well said Dr. Banda. Please replicate this attitude when you are doing politics so that we have sanity in the political arena. At the moment all we hear and perceive is anger and hatred of political opponents. One day we read edifying spiritual matters the other day we read a complete different set of article from the same person. I end up wondering what to follow. I hope God will reveal Himself to another person through you Dr. Banda. Well done and agape.

  4. Comment: we shall really miss this strong man who @ one point early this year stood toe to toe and neck to neck with Mumbi phiri debating on issues affecting the country on pan African radio,he really understood the history of politics of Zambia. MHSRIP

  5. As concerning the Soul pilgrim Banda, I invite you to read Genesis 2:7, King James Version (KJV);
7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Dust plus breath of life is living soul. Living soul minus breath of life is Dust. So there is no soul that lives at death. May our memories of them, and the works they did while they lived continue to inspire us. Head the truth pilgrim, head the truth, Amen

  6. Dr Banda is a blessing for all ola we, bless up, love and respect!

Miss your inspiration in your articles that you used to feed us with.

  7. I’m so humbled with your article Mr vice President of UPND especially where you said MHSCTIU. Many are the times people say MHSRIP, just as you put it neither does it make sense to me. We need to appreciate people with the good things they do whilst alive rather than praising them after they pass on. Thanks so much those are words of wisdom.

  8. …what point exactly was Canisius trying bring out here…??…how would anyone summarise this article……was he trying to present eulogy or give us a new meaning of death or how wrong everyone has been in using the general phrase….MHSRIP…and we should from now on use…MHSCTIU even to a late schoolboy or an aggravated robber who was gunned down by police…MHSCTIU should be engraved, printed or written on placards place on respective graves..??…how does he condemn MHSRIP as nonsense..??..I definitely look forward to meeting him ‘next time’…..

  9. just after a visit that raised dust he the man dies he did sacrifice himself for the party and now the party has sacrificed him RIP

  10. Thankyou for your words of wisdom Dr Banda, this is the kind of thinking that Zambia needs. You are one of the few that are patriotic to your country, I salute you and God bless you.

  11. Glorious band were very right,”muleikalfye tuleshiba ati bufi mubepa ba boss baima nakalufumo ku manda elo batampa ukubepa ubufi uyu walalapa” He stood by you. He wanted you to be the Republican President of Zambia. He was brave. He was intelligent. He was diligent. He was fearless. He valued merit. He was a thinker. He was a strategist. He persevered. He was the counterbalance that you need.exactly what glorious banda sung about.

  12. Farewell Kuchunga, MYSRIEP.

Coming to the picture, look at HH’s hands, his face, look at mandevu even trying to link his legs to HH’s. You get the sense that HH is trying to avoid physical contact, while mandevu is trying his best to endear himself. HH is probably thinking “….yaba these politics of Zambia, I have to put up in physical contact with all sorts of characters….all because I want the votes….When I fail this time nalafileka fima dirty politics and concentrate on my businesses where I can interact with people of my calibre and status, fellow rich men……”

  13. Dr C, with due respect, your article lacks direction..what are you trying to communicate? Some of us knew Kuchunga in our young childhood and moreso we undertstand that the Lord God gives life and takes it away…Your article seems to have too many layers of subliminal communications…anyways, so whether we say rest in peace or not does not matter…What matters is the legacy the person has left behind and their accountability to God.
We are sad for the loss to his family and to you( the UPND) and hope that this situation brings you closer to your purpose and the realization that one day we shall all go. how do we want to be remembered?

  14. Zambian phd holders ?????? Zambian let’s be fair what is Dr banda saying I hope he just signed on this without reading becouse this is too low for him
