Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Davies Chama has said tat the ruling party has never been a violent political party because its leader Edgar Lungu abhors any form of violence.
Mr. Chama said that President Lungu is on record many times condemning all sorts of violence because the party wants the country to remain peaceful.
The PF Chief Executive Officer said this when he featured on Kitwe’s Catholic run Radio Ichengelo programme.
Mr. Chama said it is unacceptable and shocking that some leaders in the opposition are propagating the use of violence and wondered what kind of leaders they were to vie for State House.
He also charged that members of the opposition have in the past put on PF regalia and head barrette and beat up people to tarnish the image of the ruling party and that of the Presidency.
Mr. Chama said the PF is enjoying massive and strong support in 9 out of the 10 provinces of the country.
The PF Secretary General also disclosed that his party is making positive inroads in Southern Province, with a lot of people from the region aspiring to be adopted on the PF ticket in next year’s general elections.

If the SG says his party abhors violence then either they are an ineffective government or the police are very incompetent. How else can you explain the near lynching of Kabimba in Chipata? The hacking of UPND supporters by known thugs whose pictures are all over the papers? The harassment of journalists? This is the problem we have in Zambia Thugs are perpetuating crime unabated. As a result we have a situation where police are scared to act for fear of falling out with the ruling party. These are the same people building unsafe structures anywhere invading properties and harassing innocent people at markets and bus stations.

Mr Chama, Winter Kabimba was acting exactly as you are. He had a chance to be a hero but he sat on the draft constitution. Now he wants to make noise about the constitution and that, too late. Just be careful not to miss this opportunity. So far, you have messed up big time and you cant even have the decency to apologize! You probably had the best opportunity a few weeks ago when you were campaigning in Southern Province. Everyone was going to think that you are the man had you apologized.
Here is a tip; you dont only apologize because you think you are wrong, you can do it even when you know you are right, for peace’s sake.
One more question, Mr Chama; where is the “immortal” KK, where is Chiluba, Mwanawasa, RB, Sata? If you can answer this simple question, then you will know that only the Word of God last forever. Some were kicked out, some were judged by their own sins and died, some had mysterious deaths that no one can explain. In short, you wont be there forever.

A party may not be violent per say but sponsors violence. The ruling party is definitely not clean on the issue of violence. So many ruling party cadres have been disrupting opposition party meetings and intimidating police. That is violence and Mr Chama will do well to remain quiet.
