Experienced striker Christopher Katongo has welcomed his inclusion in the provisional Zambia squad for next month’s CHAN in Rwanda.
The 2012 Africa Cup winning captain has been recalled to the national team for the first time since October 2014.
Katongo,33, of Green Buffaloes, was dropped by former Zambia coach Honour Janza two days after Chipoloplo’s goalless draw in Niger in a 2015 Africa Cup qualifier played on 11th October 2014.
“I am humbled to be called up for the CHAN squad. As always I’ll put in my best effort,” Katongo reacted to his recall.
On Monday, FAZ announced that Katongo and Zanaco midfielder Isaac Chansa have been drafted into the CHAN squad that has regrouped in Lusaka.
“Both Isaac and Christopher have already been spoken to and have since agreed to be part of the squad,” FAZ stated.
The 2016 CHAN will be held between January 16 – February 7 in Rwanda.

This is brilliant. Katongo is a very experienced player and he really works hard to motivate the team.
You will see the difference he will make. Issac Chansa is also a clever player. He has one of the best individual talents. He must just ensure that he doesn’t get carried away with his dribbling skills.

You are right.we need experienced players.what happened in senegal was a disaster.I don’t even know why katongo was dropped in the first place.
Katongo was dropped last time because of ubucende while in camp. He should behave and lead by good example to the youngsters. I like that he is a fighter in the field. It is not a bad idea to include two old players.
