Power utility firm Zesco says it has launched investigations to establish the cause of the last night’s partial country-wide black out barely a week after the country was plunged into a similar tragedy, reports pan African radio journalist Hermit Hachilonde.

Company spokesperson Henry Kapata says in a statement availed to pan African radio that investigations are underway following a system’s disturbance at the Kafue gorge adding that a comprehensive statement will be issued after thoroughly investigating the matter.

Meanwhile Mr. Kapata has confirmed that power has been restored in most affected parts of the country except for a few isolated areas which he assured will have the necessary commodity back today.

He also disclosed that the power utility company was working round the clock to rectify the situation in affected areas.

“we have experienced a system disturbance which has resulted in a partial national blackout, of course affecting most parts of the country, except parts of Western and southern provinces and so investigations are currently underway to establish the course of this particular system disturbance, and as it stands now, restoration of power in the affected areas is going on steadily I must say, and we shall certainly issue a comprehensive statement to this effect, after thoroughly investigations and so that is what is going on now, Henry Kapata said”

Meanwhile ZNBC has reported that Mr Kapata has said that the partial nationwide power outage was caused by a fault at the Leopards Hill Sub Station in Lusaka, which consequently shut down Kafue Gorge and Kariba North bank power stations.

  1. This appears like “trial and error”, a reflection of total incompetence in everyone involved!! Why should power blackouts at a national scale become so acceptable?? You see now that Southern and Western are somehow insulated from these shocks that affect areas dependent entirely on Kafue gorge and Kariba! We need to build a system that is integrated but can have some autonomy whenever required? For example, why should power to be consumed in Northern,Muchinga and Luapula be transported all the way from Kariba when there is enough potential to generate all the power needed in these provinces from sizable hydro and mini hydro power stations with possibilities to share that power with nearby areas of parts of Central and Eastern Provinces?? Let us think ahead instead of doing residential…

    • @Zambia is ours…you forget you are talking to PF, they know nothing and will do nothing.

  2. …continued..let us think and work ahead instead of doing residential roads on the CB which already has good infrastructure when we are experiencing a power crisis that is crippling the economy.

  3. This is foolishness at highest pick.
Why launching an investigation when you even know the problem for how long are you going to continue with this useless investigations?
ZESCO is managed by f001s and incompetent engineers.

  4. ZESCO U ARE REALLY PLAYING GAMES HOW MANY INVESTIGATIONS ARE U GOING TO HAVE THE STADIUM ONE U HAVE NOT YET INFORMED THE NATION. THESE COUNTRY WIDE ONES ARE MANY AND SO U VE OPENED INVESTIGATIONS IN ALL OF THESE. DONT TAKE PIPO FOR A RIDE PLS WHAT U SHUD KNOW IS EVERY TIME POWER GOES PIPO DIE IN HOSPITALS THRU OUT THE NATION AS POWER GOES WITHOUT NOTICE. WHAT GOVT SHUD DO PENDING INVESTIGATION IS TO (1) SUSPEND TECCHNICAL STAFF WORKING ON THESE LINES PENDING POLICE REPORTS (2) TAKE TRACK OF MOVEMENTS OF FIRED AND RETIRED TECH OFFICERS (3) OP SHUD SHARE NOTES WITH ZESCO (4) POLITICAL CADRES WORKING AS ZESCO TECH STAFF SHUD BE MONITORED & BE FIRED INSTANTLY THIS WILL NOT UNTIL PIPO ARE FIRED. KAPATA SHUD BE CHANGED IMMEDIATELY HE IS ONE OF THE SUSPECTS

  5. You already said its a system disturbance what investigations? even on the last one, you launched an investigation. what was the outcome of the last one? Henry you are playing to the crowds! The issue is that of incompetence.

  6. This is propaganda

” reports pan African radio journalist Hermit Hachilonde.”

So Zesco are posting reports into Pan African Radio??? Are the outages a pan African matter? We are in good company then.

Personally, I think these are teething problems from the expansion in electricity supply to a wider population and even to foreign neighbouring countries. When you make massive changes as ZESCO has to a system, one must expect a continuous back and forward iteration until the system is fully in sync.

A little patience and the use of alternative off grid power will help citizens massively during this time.

  7. This is a result of appointing caders and pipo based on a surname to positions of responsibility. The other day dizzy lungu appointed a clergy man as PS for power generation, Lungu should be aware that it is not the church and prayer that will fix these issues but experienced technical people. Also No one is accoutable in PF, if there was accoutability in the country half of PF would have been fired or arrested by now.
Before PF came to power, we did not have so much blackouts.

  8. Here we go again Zesco investigating themselves…this will disappear like a fart in the wind…we are still waiting for the outcome of the last black out and switch off during a live friendly at Independence stadium. This will continue as long as we continue to reward incompetence….those people at Zesco are too comfortable.

  9. …’investigate’ …my foot….the black outs are as a result of engineering problem which require engineering solution by competent engineering personnel…..the problem is that ZESCO has neither engineers nor managers compounded with visionless and corrupt political gurus…..
…im afraid the status quo shall remain like this for a time being. Kapata is now sounding like a recorded voice mail saying the same things over and over or rather comes out like a broken or scratched gramophone vinyl record repeating the same lyric over and over….eeeish
