FOUNDING President Kenneth Kaunda says Zambians should continue to build the nation and show love to one another this Christmas.

Dr Kaunda said the nation should keep looking to God as He keeps leading it.

He said this when he donated assorted materials including food stuffs worth over K40,000 to all the children admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) in Lusaka yesterday.

“Let’s go ahead and build Zambia in this wonderful manner, and let God continue to lead us in this wonderful way,” Dr Kaunda said.

He urged UTH management to distribute the food in a way that will help many children and their parents and guardians at the children’s wing to feel loved and enjoy their Christmas.

Dr Kaunda took time to visit and interact with some of the children especially those with blood issues and left a toy for each child.

The former head of State also laid his hand on each patient he visited and wished them a merry Christmas and a quick recovery.

He kept on singing the song Tiyende Pamodzi’ which means “let us move as one” as the children’s caregivers waved at him praising him for spending Christmas with them.

The gifts included a television set which was put in a well-decorated room to enable the children to watch Christmas programmes, toys and cleaning materials, diapers and bathing soap.

The rest were chicken, vegetables, sugar, cooking oil and mealie meal.

And UTH senior medical superintendent Ben Chirwa thanked Dr Kaunda for spending time with the children despite having many commitments.

“There’s no better love than that from a father and grandfather. This gift will go a long way and has also enabled us to extend our attachment to the patients by sharing joy this Christmas,” Dr Chirwa said.

Meanwhile, Standard Chartered Bank has also donated K135,000 in form of rehabilitation works, cleaning materials and hampers to the children admitted to UTH.

Head of retail banking Sony Zulu said the bank decided to give to UTH as part of its corporate social responsibility aimed at supporting sustainable development.

Mr Zulu said the retail banking division performed well in 2014 and won a global award in form of money, part of which was used on the donation to UTH.

Rehabilitation works that are being funded by the bank at the AO wards included civil works, painting behind the AO ward, putting water trials, drainages and washing lines among others.

  1. Thanks KK, please also ask Edgar to stop the violence in the country. Edgar can do it only he doesn’t know that he can.

    • The violent chap is HH who should be retired next year in the interest of peace of our country.
That is good gesture kk. What puzzles me is doctor’s who should be promoting hygiene but they look happy working in a dirty hospital. Are these doctor’s not learned enough to promote cleanliness at the institute .
