UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) Vice-President for political affairs Canisius Banda said all miners who were retrenched by mining companies will be reinstated when UPND takes over power after this year’s 2016 general elections.
Dr Banda said this when he featured on Kokoliko FM Radio station in Chingola recently.
He said UPND is a party for every Zambian and every citizen is at liberty to belong to it and contribute effectively.
“Once voted into power, we shall bring back all retrenched miners who lost jobs recently due to low copper prices and power shortage caused by ZESCO load shedding in mining industries’’ Dr Banda said.
Dr Banda also said critical fundamentals which are needed to tackle quickly are farming, free education, build more houses for the citizens and creating of employment that people live a better life.
He mentioned several countries that are in the region which offers free educations such as Tanzania, South Africa and Malawi that it has worked well in education sector, and saying Zambia cannot fail.
Dr Banda said UPND’s manifesto is arched on four pillars, Prudent, judiciary, economic and management having right consistence polices in place.
He said farming sector is where the country can have large employment and increases food basket which can reduce high cost of prices.
He also said having influx of shopping malls does not mean prices can be dropped because most commodities found in shopping malls are imported from neighboring countries.
“Over 1.4 Billion every month goes out for imported goods, because most of goods come from South Africa and America, Zambia is an import country” He said.

The global demand has slumped down and the Metal Exchanges and Minerals Commodities Markets are not performing well.

When making this statement Dr Banda factored in such determinants as cost of production in Zambia compared to places like Australia. Mining labour costs in Australia and other developed economies is more than twice what it is Zambia. Given the down turn in copper prices on the market, I would expect mining giants to retrench in Australian mines and maintain labour in countries like Zambia where copper is produced for song.

Dr Banda has made a really good point here. No wonder all the paid bloggers are voting against him. But the reality is when copper prices are high mining companies do not increase salaries. With good negotiations, these companies are able to sustain the workforce on reduced profits. This is what the doctor is saying? We need to ask ourselves the question “Who has the means to run these companies?” Our Government definitely hasn’t got the financial resources. The metal prices focus on the London Metal Exchange shows that by mid this year prices will have stabilised and obviously mines will be back into full production hence re-employing people. It will also depend on availability of electricity supply to the mines. Instead of just demeaning Dr Banda have insight in the world economy.

My simple advice to UPND is that Sata’s political tactics are now out-dated. Politics of arrogancy, unsubstantiated promises and unreasonable criticism are no longer appealing. People are able to see through them!! Please change for Zambia desperately need serious opposition

I would like to ask ba Banda what measures and means would UPND put in place to reinstate the retrenched miners if happened to win elections
Do not wake up from slumber and start keeping your mouth busy by what I can call rubbish as that is a memorized version that has been mentioned by other politicians before you of yesterday.
Retrenchments are not only in Zambia even these investors where they come from companies are doing the same so what is so special about us, just accept that the economy world wide has changed to worse.

UPND are now becoming a bunch on liars by the day. There is panic in the UPND camp. This is the highest level of desperation whatever you call it you supporters of UPND.
