Republican President Edgar Lungu has apologised to the families of Kitwe’s Mufuchani area whose houses were demolished by the Kitwe City Council on Tuesday.

The President sent his apologizes through Copperbelt Minister Mwenya Musenge who visited the affected families on Wednesday.

Addressing the residents Mr Musenge said the President was asking for their forgiveness as no one was authorized to demolish houses without proper procedure.

“The President is asking for forgiveness on what has happened here, on one is authorized to beat up people. When we have challenges it is important to engage one another, it is good that we seat and talk about our challenges. Even when moving people there are procedures,” Mr Musenge said.

The President has further directed the local authority to accommodate the affected families and give them offer letters to new plots.

“The luck you have it that when we finish talking about what has happened here, we want by tomorrow everyone who is affected should be given offer letters to a new location where you will have your own land and no one will come to harass you,” he said.

  1. Where is all this mania for apologies coming from? First chama, then lungu? In any case these are non apologies,,, how can you tell someone whose house you have demolished that he is lucky because he will be receiving a letter of offer for another place? In any case, even with genuine apologies it is really hard to forgive you chaps. You have just been too arrogant, self conceited and downright disrespectful of anyone who dared question your actions or attempt to offer advise. Any way who knows as Zambians forget too easily or are too lazy to peruse justice. They simply say ‘ ah bale keno, mulenga ska ndiye aziba’,,,, but God has given you brains to ziba! Ala! Ati ma labishi bati

    • The directictive to have those houses demolished was given by Kampyongo last week……..I am appealing to the president to take keen interest on how the council is going to be giving plots across the Kafue river because the excitement is getting out of hand now that the Mufuchani bridge is almost complete. Last time I attended interviews at Kitwe City Council for a plot at Ndeke presidential but came out with nothing only to discover that people who never even paid the application fee and did not not attend interviews had managed to get plots.

  2. Kapyongo directs the Kitwe council to demolish these structures and the whole Pulezident Through the polovincial minister Mapologizes to the victims. So annoying. And imagine with the heavy rainfalls on the Copperbelt people are homeless. And when people like HH or Nawakwi donate mealie meal or anything to help these people they will say he donated poisoned ubunga. Sad situation

  3. This is why Zambia is in a mess. Didn’t Lungu or his henchmen read the news about Kitwe City Council warning these illegal settlers & asking them to leave. I feel for them but the president should not be dictating everything to the council when they carry of their orders after a warning. What land does Lungu want these people to be given? Same land where they were evicted?

  4. Let us follow the laws of this country and stop this nonsense.
We have reached a stage where people can easily grab land illegally put people who follow normal procedures and pay a lot of money are left with no land but cadres get it at will.
My President you are there to uphold the laws of this country if they illegally did so why apologizing.
This is the area where a former area member of parliament was killed by these same criminals.
    This is nosense

  5. sad reading and step. As long as lawlessness is condoned, we are not safe as a people. If they were illegally building, then it is only right that the constitution and law of the land takes effect. We should always follow procedure. “A good Christian and human being is a good citizen who respects the law of the land” TBJ. Sad that houses had to be demolished but its the right thing to do, lets try to find out who allocated the lad to them, then that person will buy new land and give it to them.
