Government says it regrets remarks attributed to Senior Chief Bright Nalubamba in which he is alleged as having accused Government of perpetrating tribal talk, as reported in Tuesday’s Post newspaper.
Chief Government Spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says it is further regrettable that a statement full of nothing but insults against the Government was published by the newspaper.
Mr Kambwili who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister says contrary to the allegation, Government, under the leadership of President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, is building an inclusive and united Zambia in which all Zambians, regardless of tribe,colour or political affiliation, have an equal say and stake in the affairs of the country.
He says, in the same vein, Government has been preaching against hate speech which has the potential to divide the country.
Mr Kambwili said Government holds chiefs in high esteem and always relies upon their wise counsel in promoting unity in the country.
He said this is why Government has been taken aback by remarks attributed to Chief Nalubamba and hopes he was misquoted.
Mr. Kambwili said Government remains unwavering in building a united and prosperous Zambia under the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto which has bound the nation together since independence.
This contained in a statement released to ZNBC News by Mr Kambwili.
The Minister was reacting to a statement attributed to the traditional leader as attacking the current administration.
Meanwhile, PF Lusaka Province Youth Chairperson Kennedy Kamba says the PF will concentrate on fostering national unity and development as promised during the election campaigns.
Mr Kamba says remarks in Tuesday’s edition of the Post Newspaper attributed to Senior Chief Nalubamba attacking the PF are regrettable.
He was speaking to ZNBC news in LUSAKA.

Kambwili may have said some thing wrong last time. But today he has spoken something sensible. A chief should not be carried by wind. Chiefs should learn to react in mature way. Kambwili is a politician not a chief. So a chief should not act like a politician. We need mature chiefs more than politicians who come and go.

There is a lot of hate speech in Zambia and sadly it has heightened over the last few years. I was in a group of guys who thought I do not understand their language and what they were saying was literally atrocious and hateful. If we do not deliberately work to kick out championing based on the language we speak and the culture we follow we will deepen the mediocrity that is already evident in the country. I could not wait to get back to my safe haven in my adopted home abroad. The mediocrity is glaring – even by the quality of blogs that are mostly insults that are marked up massively.
