My Ambassador role didn’t mean anything-General Kanene

Controversial musician Clifford Dimba commonly known as General Kanene has reacted to the decision to revoke his appointment as GBV Ambassador by President Edgar Lungu stating that he is unmoved as the appointment did not mean anything.

Kanene said the appointment was just a title that did not amount to anything and revealed that he was not been paid for that role.

He said it was difficult for him to execute his role as Ambassador because he did not receive any help from State House.

“I didn’t even have transport to move around to carry out my work. How does one expect an Ambassador to work without a car? How do I sensitise the people against GBV if I can’t even move?”

He said the revocation of his appointment does not change anything about his life.

“I still remain an artiste. That is my talent, I am a musician, no one can take that away from me. If anything, now I am now even free to do my work as an artiste,” Kanene said in an interview.

He disclosed that no one has helped him since his release from prison where he was serving an 18-month jail sentence for defilement.

“As an artiste, the time I spend in the studio composing music costs money, I have to pay the owners of the studio. Even now as you are talking to me, I am in the studio and I have to pay. I don’t have that money.

Everything I had was messed up when I went to jail. I have a family, I need to feed my children and all these people that are talking about me have never even bought me a bag of mealie meal.”

Kanene was however full of praise for President Lungu for granting him freedom.

“I will forever be grateful to President Lungu, that man is a good man. Even with what has happened this week, I cannot say anything about Mr Lungu, he has given me freedom.”

He also castigated some opposition political parties for allegedly trying to bring confusion between himself and State House.

“I cannot abandon Mr Lungu, I will always remain his big supporter.”

Meanwhile, NGOCC Executive Director Ngwase Mwale said the organisation has noted the decision by President Lungu to revoke the appointment of Kanene as an Ambassador against GBV.

Ms. Mwale said NGOCC is again appealing to President Lungu to reconsider the pardon of Kanene from serving his jail term as he has clearly not reformed given his record in the few months he has been out of prison.

“As an organization, we were opposed to the earlier decision by the Head of State to have appointed a convicted child defiler to champion the cause against Gender Based Violence. This revocation decision therefore fortifies our position on the need for the President to consult widely before making significant decisions,” Ms. Mwale said.

“While the President enjoys prerogative powers to make decisions including pardoning convicted criminals, there is need for a clear framework to guide this process, to avoid situations where the Presidency is mortified. Those who advise the Head of State must at all times insulate the institution of Presidency against such mortifying decisions, that have far reaching consequences on society in general and the women.”

She added, “It is anticipated that the president will now be a real He For She Champion, and provide the needed leadership in the fight against Gender Based Violence to safeguard the wellbeing of women and the girl child. The reversal of the decision on Gen Kanene is therefore now more befitting for the HeForShe Champion he is.”

    • Useless chap. He found transport to go and assault a woman? We told Lungu not to appoint a criminal who did not complete correctional process. He is now messing with the same man Lungu who released for a couple of songs. Eish……

    • The chap never understood what the appointment was – goes to show how inappropriate the appointment was in the first place.The appointing or nominating authority should have also done due diligence to make sure his nominee knew or understood what the role meant – or was it just a case of copying what is done in the west – MEANING THAT BOTH THE NOMINATOR AS WELL AS THE NOMINEE WERE BOTH CLUELESS ABOUT THE ROLE RIGHT FROM THE OUTSET!!!

As if that is not enough Kanene didn’t know that his release from jail was based on condition that he starts preaching against GVB a vice which took him to jail.

She needs to direct and bring attention to the cause with proper hard facts not cheap emoting on sad matters like this.

  9. Was a defilement case carrying 18 months or 18 years? The man should appreciate and be remorseful that society accepted him even when he is a serial sexual predator. A person who has no respect for women deserves to be away from normal people.
    Whoever,is calling a president names need to think because the president acted on the recommendation from prison board.The decision to pardon offenders is enshrined in our constitution.It is illogical to call the president names,like The Engineer has done. He exercised his clemency based on the recommendation from prison board.

    • @Scrutinizerer,if it is like that then it is unfortunate.I expect these board to be acting independently minus intereference from anyone.Nevertheless,I cannot agree more with this on that because most of these boards are appointed minus recognistion of corporate governance.We need also to know that speculation bleeds hatred for an innocent person.I dont think he can be so naive as to recommend for a release of a criminal like Kanene.He must have acted within the confines of the law as opposed to acting on a point of compromise.

The President did it on humanitarian grounds thinking the chap was going to reform but he has been disappointed. As for Kanene, he has missed an opportunity to revive himself in society.

    • No, the President did not care about humanitarian reasons but for selfish political gratification. I did receive request for 40,000 contribution for PF fund rising with promise to be “entertained” by “artiste” rap1st.
      If the President wants to be “humanitarian” (lol) there are hundreds of people languishing in jails which have committed lesser crimes.
      And why waiting so long to revoke his appointment? Why not revoking his pardon instead?

The president was advised by many of us here to leave the man in jail but he decided to use his prerogative to let him free. Even the United Nations had to get involved to have him change course.   32. This Kanene was released from jail by Lungu because of the praise song he did for him to counter pilato’s alungu anabwela. He is one guy who was supposed to do 18 good years but stayed in jail for only 16 months and was released. What a pardon! This shows how unreasonable and childish lungu is! This idi0t can’t show any remorse for what he did. In his small deranged brain he feels he has already paid for that crime through a song he did for another f00l, edgar Lungu. This is not the kind fit for presidency but chawama brothels!

They pardon you and the condition for that matter is that you work hard make your own money and do the Ambassadorial work you want someone to pay you, this was part of your correctional service to the state. All offences are committed against the state. The state pardoned you and you want to be paid for your job that you are given to pay for your sins and you want the state to pay you and you go on air/or print media to say such crap against the state that has pardoned you.   40. Firstly, as a matter of correction, Kanene was serving an 18 year jail sentence not as written above. Secondly Kanene is forthright telling Edgar that pardoning him meant malabishi, he should have given him a salary, a car and other things. Edgar should have known better Kanene is uneducated, ungrateful and forever remain a monster. It required little or no intelligence to know that again Kanene will go to Jsil, watch this space. Same way Edgar is playing with Zambians…his ending will be disastrous. ..no matter what happens on August 11th…

Are you telling me prior to his arrest Kanene didn’t have records of abuse or wife battery at Misisi compound police post? Why was that data overlooked? Oh yeah cause he did a song in praise of HE ECL? Well this is what you get for belittling the highest office, “Never argue with with a fool because they will drag to their level and beat you to it in the process” As an intellectual am beginning to wonder if ECL is fit to be in that office let alone the thought of him winning this years election will spell doom for this country!
