UPND President Hakainde Hichilema says the loans being given to marketeers by the PF government are too little to make positive impact in their lives.
Speaking when he featured on Komboni radio this morning Mr Hichilema said with the high cost of commodities a K2000 cannot make any impact in a business.
He said marketers should continue receiving the money because it was their money which the PF was distributing to them and that they should consider it to be a grant because his party will write off all the loans given to them by the PF when they get into office next year.
“The money which the PF is giving marketeers as loans is just too little. What can a 2000 do in terms of improving your business? It can’t do anything because the cost of doing business has gone up, transport is expensive, commodities are expensive so that 2000 is just a drop in an ocean.
We encourage you to get that money and eat it because it is your money which the PF is giving you. When we assume office in August those loans will be written off, they are grants and we will increase those grants so that you are able to improve your businesses meaningfully as opposed to what this government is doing,” he said.
And Mr Hichilema says his government will ensure that essential institutions such as schools and health institutions are well staffed and workers motivated to ensure quality public service delivery.
He said government workers needs to be motivated to ensure that they deliver quality services to the public who are their employers.
“When we are in office we want to make sure that a public worker is motivated. We want to make sure that infrastructure such as schools and clinics is near to the people regardless of where they are. There are times when sick people die in a queue because the hospital does not have enough workers we don’t want that to be happening under our watch,” he said.

HH must realise that not every loan obtained even from financial institutions is obtained for investmeets. At times people get small loans to pay off bills such as :
1. Unexpected Expenditure
2. Bereavements Bills
3. Medicals
4. Problems caused by nature.
Most companies provide small loans and advancements to pay off bills.
HH really sucks. Time after time he has failed to articulate what he would do differently.
This is a person who has failed to provide an Alternative Budget when surely he is an economist and has assess to Budgetary Committees through his MP’s.

Even Zambia as a country asked for debt write-off/forgiveness 2006! Zambia as a country gets grants from other governments. Written-off & grants meant Zambia never pays anything back. That’s how Zambia came out of HIPC .

Is it true that the loans PF is giving to marketeers is the money PF store from marketeers? Or the money is coming from taxes collected from Zambians? If these loans are coming from taxes, and UPND personalises the money to PF, then the president of UPND is promoting anarchy. Here is how.
If UPND will have the power to write off the loans given by PF, it means the loans are government loans. Which means every party that will get in government will always write off government loans. And if we considered that government offered K2,000 loans to 20,000 marketeers, the government looses K40,000,000 That a lot of money to loose for a president who wants to improve government services to the Zambians.
UPND has also condemned road construction. Where will they get the money to build…
@ Gen, you mean you are so dumb to understand that k2000,00 cannot help a marketeer in any way? Don’t you understand that this is bribery. UPND is right to tell marketeers who are already beggers that they will right off the loans. PF has not done anything to improve these marketeers lives and is now bribing them with tokens just for votes? Is that mockery?
Be objective. My family member are poverty stricken in markets and I have told them all to try UPND. Lungu has no vision. I am going home to help campaign and I will help tell marketeers to ditch PF.
