The opposition Forum for Democratic Process has disclosed that it will not enter into any alliance ahead of the August 2016 general elections.

FDD Spokesman Antonio Mwanza revealed that the FDD will approach the elections as a single party.

He said the party is not interested in alliances that are only aimed at removing the ruling PF from power.

Mr Mwanza said the FDD will only consider alliances that will touch on the core of the need for social and economic transformation of Zambia.

He said it will not help Zambians by simply removing a group of men and women in the PF and replacing them with a new set of people without a clear set of ideology to benefit the people.

Mr Mwanza said the FDD has confidence in the strengthen of its structures across the party to deliver victory in the general elections.

  1. It is a wise move for now.you may rise your potifolio in the next round(50%+1).But should be carefull if you will not join at the right time you may be declared useless.

    • Bad move FDD. If you were as big as UPND, then it would be okay to go solo. Do not be fooled by the “third” position you got during the January 2015 Presidential by-elections. Just to give you a proper perspective, here are the results below:
      Edgar LUNGU PF – 807,925
      Hakainde HICHILEMA UPND – 780,168
      Edith NAWAKWI FDD – 15,321

With all due respect, even rejected votes beat you [Total Votes Rejected – 17,313]. Honestly speaking even Rainbow and DF or Orange Alliance will beat you by a huge margin.

    • FDD has this young man Antonio Mwanza who i am still waiting to hear him speak insulting language. But i know that I will wait in vain because is one upright gentleman in politics today. Keep it this way Mr Antonio and continue to respect your boss Mrs Nawakwi. Mrs Nawakwi is building a great future for you in politics. Always speak with wisdom and tou will make it in Zed politics with easy. GOD BLESS YOU MY FIREND.

  2. YOU SOUND SENSIBLE FOR FIRST TIME MR.MWANZA. YOU DESERVE A SEAT IN PARLIAMENT, PLEASE CONTEST FROM YOUR VILLAGE COZ LUSAKA TAINOBE.

  3. this lady will never cease to amaze me,does she even understand the 50+1 threshold? must be dillusional to think she can even come close to those who’ve united for one common good.what a selfish leader ofca lady!

  4. Mr Mwanza, your party FDD can not win general election. Maybe 2026 not under the leadership of Iron lady. Mr Mwanza, it is high time, you should stand as MP on your party ticket. You can represent the youths in parliament.

  5. She knows what she talking about she dot want to make the miske of 1991 of just removing the ruliinp party from power and nearing making one party state.

  6. Comment: It pains, and u look a fool going to the polls when u definately know that u wont make it.50 plus 1 is not a joke Mr Mwanza!.

  7. The best approach Antonio. You will be in a better position to bargain in case of a re run if you are not one of the top two.
You will also freely campaign for your councillors & MPs in the general elections unlike the position Nevers wants to put MMD in.
    Good luck.

  8. fdd to win elections?yes zambians ar dull but not all that dull to an extent of putting fdd in power in this year’s elections.mama nawakwi pliz join hands with hh u too much confidence brings downfall.Iwe antonio advise our mother.

  10. Well calculated. You will have better bargaining power after first round. MMD swallowed. Nevers Mumba thinks he will be runinng mate. Dull indeed.

  12. Seek alliance before the election or else wait for a runoff to no avail. This merging parties can easily make a first round win. FDD can seek partnership with either of the two top parties and bargain as equals. Singlehandedly, you can hardly go anywhere.

    • @ MAN KENYA

One MP “…and bargain as equals…”!?!?!

Either you presume that others are scared sh1teless from party leader which last year was 3rd runner-up after spoiled ballots, or you overestimate PF popularity?

Can you please clarify, which one?
      Thanks

  13. It is nothing but just pride in this statement.. If you have a heart of the suffering masses, become an ally of Upnd and liberate zambia out of the pf mess. Zambians are throwing their weight behind Upnd &will make sure no re run .

  14. But who can they be in a pact with? FDD, like Heritage Party, is a nonentity led by a powerful and good leader. Unfortunately, politics are a different ball game, where even fools powered on Chibuku and Kachasu can determine the destiny of a political party.

  15. I like the principle of it. Its not just about unseating a group of thieves – only to replace them with another group of bandits. Why would you enter into an alliance to help criminals remain in power and you yourselves probably get spat out in the end? It may also compromise your own ideology and what you stand for. We know FDD in its current political ‘fortunes’ cannot win the elections, but the alternative (especially if it is an alliance with PF) spells the end of any integrity the party may have hitherto had.

  16. @ Hung them high. Quite laughable! So even ” spoilt votes” performed better than FDD? As such, no need to bargain as equals but a compromise beforehand is better. Zambia’s opposition parties are so divided that its better they continue in turmoil than see a fellow opposition party win. Style up!

  17. thinking logically, Nawakwi 5% only 12 months ago and she thinks she can garner more than 50% now? Wow, she must know something I do not.

  18. FDD just join UPND or PF alliance. we ar all zambians, we ar the same. no one is beta than the other.Work with other pipo, dont go it alone. Napapata!!! u cant win these elections alone.

  19. It is laughable! FDD thinks they will win the election! Edith Nawakwi wants the power and not to share. Good luck FDD!

  20. Iwe antonio advise ba mayo to form alliance with upnd that boasting wont help you.you know you cant win elections alone why wasting time.thnk twice naimwe

  22. Good move if FDD is looking forward to 2021 elections or beyond. Bargain for second round in 2016 will be a lost cause as the running mate in the first round cannot be swapped during the re-run. So FDD should aim to win more Parliamentary seats than considering the presidency. In 2021, DF will have gained a lot to be a threat to any party. Miles Sampa may even pull more votes than FDD candidate. 2016 elections is between PF’s Edgar Lungu and UPND’s HH.

Good luck for your decision FDD

  23. Mr Mwanza and FDD, be realistic and also be frank.
    1. If as the opposition you do not plan to remove the current party in power, then you join them and work with them. Is this what you are failing to tell us? Because your party cannot win the election alone.
    2. The new consitution requires rethinking your approaches and strategies, one of them is teaming up. But you FDD seem to be still in the past. Come out and think progressively. Remove the selfishness and look for alliances.

  24. The Zambian political field is plagued by too many parties the 50% +1 rule has tried to deal with this problem by encouraging parties to work together so that there are less party’s in the field and less violence noise and far much more cooperation between the parties. For that reason FDD has missed the point but have proved it is effectively just a small business group that gets international money during elections then disappear until next elections are called. Suspiciously looks like a media Image game, to maintain a presence.

  25. @lisa if the hh the leader of upnd had a heart for Zambia he would have advised the than government to sell 50% shares of each state owned company. This thing of painting people black no, We must look for solutions of cause not hh because of his hands during privatisation…

  26. people pls be informed that FDD will soon make an ALlience with PF, MMD either before the elections or in an event of a runoff…this will enable them to create a very competitive advantange for their party….anyhow its ECL @ Plot 1 till 2021

  27. watch the political game unfolds in UPND and a posble alliance with rainybow and orange alliance…i wonder wat there going to call that allaince……in the mean time students are rioting over unpaid allowance creating more room for opposition to have diverse views on the issue to devide them even more and more apart….i wonder again people like kabimba can still bounce again in politics??????oooh God have mercy on our politicians and on our sweet beloved country….

  28. its gud to start growing yo party rather than making alliances patience pays who knows may b the next election yo party president will be elected but if u join alliances yo party will b soon forgoten
