Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) National Youth Treasurer Lengwe Cornelius Bwalya says there are no factions in MMD and he has expressed disappointment with some senior members of the party whom he has accused of creating acrimony and disunity within the former ruling party. He said these people keep opposing the leadership of Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba in their selfish schemes to gain political mileage.

“It’s very saddening and disappointing that some senior members of our party have decided to discuss internal party matters in public and even twist the truth to fit their evil schemes against the party President Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba,” Mr Bwalya said.

“We are human beings bound to make mistakes here and there and if there any grave mistakes that Dr Mumba has made, that’s why we are here to help him as our President and resolve these matters amicably and not go to a newspaper to wash dirty linen in public,” said Mr Bwalya.

Mr Bwalya who is mobilizing the party in Nchelenge District in Luapula Province has said people should stop giving the 30th January 2016 NEC meeting’s resolutions 1000 interpretations and that they should cease to propagate lies but instead tell the truth.

“The NEC meeting in which I was in attendance never at any point resolved to go into an alliance with the PF unconditionally. Instead we tasked the President, Dr Mumba to speak to His Excellency President Edgar Lungu to discuss the formalities of this proposed working alliance and report back to us. But people want to lie that it is a done deal with no conditions. Who goes into a negotiation without knowing what they want to just accept anything they are offered?” asked Mr Bwalya.

And Mr Bwalya wondered which people within the party were against Dr Mumba, as the opposite was true according to his research while visiting the provinces.

“It’s hallucinations for any person to say that Dr Mumba is losing popularity within the party over these calls for the convention. To the contrary, he has gained more popularity because the general membership and the people of Zambia have seen the resilience and passion he has demonstrated in defending the party and ?our party constitution to the letter against disgruntled elements who don’t care about MMD.”

“There are no factions within MMD. There is only one MMD whose party President is Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba and those calling for a convention are not MMD but UPND and if they want a convention, let them have one within their party UPND because I think the last time they had one is in 2006,”? Mr Bwalya said.
