Lwandamina: Al Ghazala gave us a rough time

Share

Coach George Lwandamina admitted that Zesco United were frustrated by visiting South Sudan club Al Ghazala Wau’s defensive tactics in the first leg match of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Zesco on Sunday kicked off their CAF Champions League campaign with 2-0 win over Al Ghazala at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

The visitors defended through out the match in their own half.

“They employed defensive tactics so how do you expect players to play. Even if there was enough creativity, there was little space in which to use the creativity itself,” Lwandamina said.

“It was a very, very tough game; they came and they packed the bus. The only goals we could have scored are may be from afar. If the boys had taken the initiative to shoot from afar, it was going to be a
different game altogether,” he said.

Meanwhile Al Ghazala assistant coach John Baptist Abakar said his team had hoped for a draw.

“We changed our tactics as early as the fifteenth minute because if we played an open match it was going to be a big loss. Zesco is a big team and the game we have played with them has given us an idea about them. The second leg is going to be different,” said Abakar.

The second leg tie will take place at Juba Stadium on February 26.

  1. Atase! Nensoni iyoo! Rough time with a team that doesnt even have a budget but relies on donations? The league in South Sudan has 6 teams and it is only 4 years old. We should be hammering teams from there 8-0
