Opposition MMD Spokesperson Raphael Nakacinda has appealed to all well meaning members of the party and Zambians at large not to let the challenges in the party lead to its oblivion.

Speaking when he featured on Joy FM’s the Platform radio program Mr Nakacinda said the MMD is the only party with a democratic template in the country and that allowing it to die would be killing democracy in the country as it is the party considered to be the mother of democracy in the nation.

He said the MMD needs to raise above personal issues and deal with its challenges squarely without individuals advancing selfish interests.

“We need to aspire to grow our democracy to a level were we talk about issues no matter how sensitive without putting knives on the necks of each other and persuade one another amicably and that is what is expected at least of MMD because we are the mother of democracy in this country.

“I can tell you even the question that you have raised on whether MMD can survive the current challenges I can tell you that MMD needs to survive what we are going through because we are the only party with a clear democratic template, we are the only party which has demonstrated for the past 25 years that we are willing to engage in intraparty democracy processes to arrive at decisions or choose leadership,” he said.

He added “If MMD goes into extinction I can tell you that what goes into extinction is democracy in this country because the other political parties have not demonstrated in their history that they are committed to the tenets of democracy, it is MMD that stands out in that regard.”

And Mr Nakacinda has said that he has not fallen out with party President Nevers Mumba.
He said there has not been rift between him and Dr Mumba and that if there was any misunderstanding between they would be able to talk about it because there is no challenge that can insurmountable to be resolved.

On the differences of opinions as to whether the party is due for a convention Mr Nakacinda refused to comment stating that the issue was in court hence he could not comment.

He was however quick to mention that the safety of MMD as an institution would only be arssured by following the party constitution as it protects the party from external, internal as well as selfish agendas of individuals.

  1. Did you build MMD or destroy it when you campaigned for HH? How can you be more comfortable working with HH who has never gone for a convention for more than 12 years than MMD ? if you have changed your mind and you now want to work with mumba be it so.

    • Denialism at its core!
Surely MMD is a ” dead tick” on dying PF. Dr Nevers Mumba is merely a shell leader of the incapacitated MMD bootlicking Lungu & visionless out of PF b’coz Mumba failed at his own “Zambia shall be” savaged. He failed the National Christian Coalition, fired as veep by Dr Mwanawawa for crookedness now exhibited by his leaching of Poor Failures (PF).
Why is MMD shy to pack with UPND or FDD? Simple, MMD is a dead tired tick on intoxicated PF. Bandits click to fellow Bandits, birds of a feather flock together as PF+MMD being buried in 3 months. Chipimo, Chanda & Sampa also suffer from regionalisation of the forest.
      Poor MMD!

  2. People do not underrate Dr Nevers Mumba, I agree with him that going for a conversion 4 months before election can bring confusion in the MMD ahead of election due to possibility of disintegration in the party by aggrieved groups.

Mutati’s desperation for power in the last minute is suspicious

    • The problem in MMD is that both Felix Mutati and Nevers Mumba want to be ECL’s running mate if the PF-MMD alliance materialise. If you follow news properly, this is not the first time Felix Mutati is attempting to take over the MMD presidency.
On the other hand, if the PF-MMD allaince works, it will mark the end of MMD as a party. Similarity can be drawn from Zimbabwe where in 1987, Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) absorbed the Patriotic Front (PF) to form ZANU-PF. Up to this day ZANU-PF is one party.
In Zambia we might have a new party called PF-MMD or whatever suitable name they will come up with – it is a possibility.

  3. MMD is a failed project. It showed its fissures when RB campaigned for EL and others went to UPND.It reminds me of the History of Roman Empire.Despite being a greatest civilized empire, feudalism came in and it disintegrated within a shortest period of time.Other tribes like Vandals,Ostrogoth who knew nothing about Great Roman Empire, came and destroyed what remained of the great civilization. MMD is in ruins because people who have come in do not know the genesis of the party. They should ask people like Akashambatwa,Derrick Chitala and others who were at Garden House, how MMD came into existence. Now,MMD is a carcass that has been devoured by all sorts of vultures and hyena.
