President Edgar Lungu says his running mate in the August 11th General Elections will be a woman.
President Lungu says men will have no chance to be his running mate if he is still president citing that even the constitution has principles talking about gender balance.
He has assured that he will not end what has been achieved so far in terms of appointing women to various leadership positions.
The head of state has since urged women to rise up now and make use of him as he stands ready to support them in the country.
President Lungu has also advised women to do away with the pull her down syndrome but encourage each other.
President Lungu said this when he officiated at the patriotic front women sensitization fundraising breakfast in Lusaka this morning.
And speaking earlier, Vice President Inonge Wina has urged women to use the opportunity that has been given to them by President Lungu to actualize their dreams of being present at the decision making table.
Ms. Wina however points out that the women cannot make decisions alone but need men around thus it is important that they work together equally.
And PF Chairperson for Elections Jean Kapata explained that the women sensitization programme is aimed at enticing women to contest the coming elections on the PF ticket.
She has further warned that women should watch out for the women in the coming elections as they are preparing themselves to take part at various levels.

Strategically, making this announcement now is a very poor and risky move for EL. Now he’s showing us that he’s really a political novice. August is almost SIX MONTHS away, and that’s really a long time in politics. He has now given the ammunition and TIME to the male running mate hopefuls to plot against him, either WITHIN PF or SECRETLY WORKING WITH THE OPPOSITION. Personally, I have no respect for the idea of quotas for leadership positions based on gender. Maturity, Discipline, Commitment to Serve & Account, and Competence should be the only criteria. anyone that meets the criteria – whether male or female should be appointed/adopted. Zambia has A LOT of good and capable MEN AND WOMEN of substance to choose from.
Lungu also said he will take both gender and region into account. That eliminates Dora Siliya because you can’t have the President and running mate from the same province (although I have always regarded Lungu – like myself -a Kopala person rather than an Easterner). Prof Nkandu Luo and Mumbi Phiri are other possibilities. But Nkandu Luo is too pugnacious and arrogant. Mumbi Phiri is too undiplomatic and immature. If he has to pick someone from the north, my bet is Nawakwi, Kaseba (If she has repented), Kansembe, and any other woman from Muchinga, Northern, or Luapula with a strong professional and academic background. My speculation is premised on the fact that Lungu and PF draw the largest number of votes from these areas. If Bo Inonge wants to retire, this would be the only way to go…
If Bo Inonge is not retiring, Lungu must run with her.
If i where that woman i would think twice before joining this failed project called Lungu. Like it or not EL has no leadership qualities and he will live to be the worst thing that has ever happened to mother Zambia.

Zambian politics is toxic, tribal cards is a tool that is used to decampaign political opponents. Dora and EL both are “Petaukeans” that will be deemed as wako ni wako, more so that RB is seen as Lungu’s godfather. Many of us don’t care whether Presidential candidate and his/her running mate come from the same village. But there are always those who will capitalize and use it to decampaign others.

Museveni still enjoys popularity in Uganda. Their constitution is what should have provided the cure by not making it open-ended for the incumbent.
PF is a failed project. They already have a female vice president. What is

and leadership skills are deficient. With a female veep already there,
UNZA and CBU have been shut, prices of goods and services have spiraled,
unemployment is chronic, civil servants are no longer getting paid on time,
govt is grappling with electricity outages, the national debt has skyrocked,
farmers are sharing a bag of fertiliser instead of the usual 4 bags per farmer
under FISP, the economic growth of the country has shrunk, bussiness
men and women are struggling to sustain their enterprises due to reduced
purchasing power, 4 tomatoes are going at K 10 and…
The fruits of the PF are their for all to see. Destruction, Confusion, Violence, Corruption, Jamasionism(alcoholism) and Ineptitude. Why the women, men and youth of Zambia will
kick out PF is because Edgar has never succeed in any serious leadership position which
requires a vision. Professionally, he failed to run a law firm. He was not the best among lawyers.
As president he is simply the worst. Compare with Levy who performed wonders a president. Levy
made it because he was a visionary leader who moved from successful lawyer to successful
president. Lungu has moved to Chakolwa lawyer to chakolwa president. Lungu ran down a law firm
and has now run down the country.
Whether you pretend or not, you are all feeling the misery PF has inflicted
on you. You are all cash strapped, hell broke because the ka little ndalama
you come across can’t take you anywhere because PF has eroded the strength
of the currency.
If a leader of an opposition is not a running mate, then I don t understand this fuzzy about the so called “Alliance” before elections.
This is the reason I am continuously calling for the coalition government (or Zambian equivalent to Alliance) to be formed ONLY after elections.
Each Party goes out with their Party Program (or manifestation) of what they want to achieve for the Zambian people. That way each Party Leader will have their own running mate within their party for the campaign period up to election. After elections then they can start negotiating with opposition party with whom they want to form a coalition government. And the opposition leader could become the vicepresident

That eliminates Dora Siliya because you can’t have the President and running mate from the same province (although I have always regarded Lungu – like myself -a Kopala person rather than an Easterner). Prof Nkandu Luo and Mumbi Phiri are other possibilities. But Nkandu Luo is too pugnacious and arrogant. Mumbi Phiri is too undiplomatic and immature. If he has to pick someone from the north, my bet is Nawakwi, Kaseba (If she has repented), Kansembe, and any other woman from Muchinga, Northern, or Luapula with a strong professional and academic background. My speculation is premised on the fact that Lungu and PF draw the largest number of votes from these areas. If Bo Inonge wants to retire, this would be the only way to go…
