The Zambian Voice has described as selfish plans by Members of Parliament to pass a Bill that will enable them get their gratuity in full despite Parliament dissolving early than usual this year.

Executive Director Chilufya Tayali says his organization has come across information suggesting that in view of the amendments made to republican constitution MPs may not get their gratuity in full but that they are planning to make changes to the constitution before the dissolution of Parliament in May.

Mr. Tayali says the Zambian Voice is concerned that MPs want to make changes to the constitution on the last hour to get their money when there many urgent matters that need their attention.

He says his organization is wondering why MPs are not as swift in amending the Public Order Act when it has been well established that this law infringements upon people’s rights.

Mr. Tayali has told Qfm news that with such desire for money MPs cannot claim to have the heart for the people.

He has advised Zambians to wake and realize such MPs are only there to serve their own selfish interests not the public good.

  1. That is a problem with our parliament, opposition Mps share in the plunder and say nothing because they are getting rich…….

    .

  2. What comparison is there to the POA which IS required to remain to protect citizens and to MPs getting their income as some will surely lose their seats and revert to ordinary citizens?

If Tayali were an MP, he’d be supporting this am pretty sure.

  3. Everyone gets paid proportionate to the period of service. If these MPs want to be paid in full, Zambians should define it as plunder, period! Zambians should stand up against the plunderers! Don’t vote for them ever again. Bear in mind that these are people who have even failed to find lasting solutions to the challenges of UNZA and CBU?

  4. Sadly this is the caliber of MPs we have in Parliament both from opposition and ruling party…they have done this in the past where they have sneaked in salary increases and we have only found out when its too late. You would wonder where investigative journalism has disappeared with dubious boys like Chilufya are bringing this to late.

  5. So what’s the issue here? Parliament is dissolving to prepare for regular general elections so let the mPs get their dues. This foool of petty jealousy, just ignorethe ka Makaka.

Next topic please: who is the running mate for HH?

  6. FOLLOW THE NEW CONSTITUTION WHAT DOES IT SAY BUT MEANWHILE THEY WILL SUCRIFICE BCOS EVEN PENSIONERS ARE NOT PAID FROM ~ TO DATE OTHERS HAVE DIED
NOW WORKERS ARE NOT YET PAID SOME OPPOSITION TO CHANGE THINGS TO FRASTRATE WORKERS SO THAT COMPLAIN GOVT DO U NEED TO BE TOLD SOME PIPO ARE ATTACKING U IN VARIUS DIRECTIONS USING TECHNICS.
PAY WORKERS FIRST MR PRESIDENT THOSE THEY CAN GET ANYTIME BUT THOSE WITHOUT G12 PAY THEM THOSE COMING BACK KEEP THERE CASH LIKE PENSIONERS U HAVE TO REACH 65 YRS OR RETIRE FROM POLITICS THEN GET YO CASH.

  7. its public knowledge, the act has been amended gratuity is not taxable. Access practice note no.2016 on ZRA site and read article 24.

  8. They have worked and deserve to be paid.It is a fallacy to think that politics is a service. It is no longer a service like it used to be in UNIP.It is now a career hence the minimum requirement for one to be a law maker. That is why I feel,MPs should be taxed because their income is earned like any other employee. The duration of their term has come to an end,it is just logical enough that they are paid their dues. They have families and relatives to look after. They should be paid what is due to them. They are not supposed to sacrifice in the name of politics.
