DEC records its highest seizure of cocaine in Zambia

DRUG Enforcement Commission (DEC) public relations officer Samuel Silomba looks at the exhibit of the largest single seizure of cocaine weighing 13.2 kilogrammes. Among other items seized were DVD players and baby powder containers where the drugs were concealed

The Commission in Lusaka has recorded its highest seizure of cocaine following the arrest of two Zambians and a Tanzanian national for trafficking in 24.1kg of cocaine.

Sydney Mwansa, 32, an Assistant Manager of Taqua Bus Services of Tanzania; Likuta Shaibu Abilahi, 42, a Tanzanian of Mbagra in Dar-es-Salaam and Teddy Matanda, 35, a Taxi Driver of Lusaka’s Matero area have been arrested and jointly charged for trafficking in 24 packets of cocaine weighing 24.1kg.

The three suspects were arrested in three different locations which include Intercity Bus Terminals, Matero in Lusaka and Chirundu with the help of the Zambia Police Service.

The Commission has also seized two motor vehicles which include a Toyota Corolla and a Golf from the suspects.

Other items seized include a Pistol with 15 rounds ammunition and cellular phones.

The suspects are currently in Police custody and will appear in court soon.

The development was confirmed by DEC Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo.

Meanwhile, the Commission has in different parts of the country arrested over thirty (30) people for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in cannabis weighing over 1 tonne.

    As usual the seizure will disappear overnight and the suspects will escape somehow. DEC is corrupt we ve seen this happening before.

    All these political cadres are always high on chamba and other drugs....There must be big fish behind these traffickers. The drug money goes into politics...

    THIS IS THE EFFECT OF CRIMINAL DUAL-CITIZENSHIP CLAUSE THAT CRIMINALS IN PF GOVERNMENT PROPOSED AND ENDORSED. WAIT FOR MORE SERIOUS CRIME IN ZAMBIA, ALL BROUGHT IN BY THE DUAL-CITIZENSHIP CLAUSE. ZAMBIA NEEDS HH TO PUT THINGS RIGHT. UPND TEAM SHOULD TAKE OVER FROM PF ON AUGUST 11.

    marijuana is a great drug(I not supporting it ), because dagga smokers are slow and funny hahahaha. Cocaine traffickers should be shot. Start by shooting a foreigner and the local Zambians will get the message.
