President Edgar Lungu has revealed that he has received intelligence information that UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema and his Vice Geoffrey Mwamba are training 250 youths in militia.
President Lungu has since vowed to clamp down on all forms of violence by opposition party leaders in order to protect peace and national security.
He told PF supporters in Katete Friday morning that Mr Hichilema and Mr Mwamba have set up a training camp in Lusaka where they are training 250 youths in militia.
Mr Lungu said the youths are receiving training from Innocent Kalimanshi, of InterCity Bus Terminals, a cadre who was recently expelled from PF and joined UPND.
He said the purpose of setting up a militia wing is to use it to cause violence when the UPND loses the August elections.
Mr Lungu said he is the most powerful man in Zambia and that he will knock down anyone who wants to cause confusion in the country.
“I am the most powerful man in Zambia and will ensure people that peace is safeguarded. I will not allow confusion just for the sake of democracy, I am appealing for peace. I have heard that GBM and HH are training youths in Lusaka, am asking HH and GBM to dismantle these vigilantes, I have information that the youths are under the tutelage of Innocent Kalimanshi whom we sent away,” President Lungu said.
He added, “I am the most powerful man in Zambia. I talk slowly but I carry I big stick.”
The UPND was not available for an immediate reaction.

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu says the Patriotic Front has no militias but youths whose duty is to protect party officials whenever they are conducting business.
He told journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport yesterday before departure for Mfuwe that it was a common practice for political parties to have people who provide protection for vulnerable officials.
This was after he was asked to comment on Law Association of Zambia president George Chisanga’s concerns that the issue of security wings in political parties should be disbanded. Chisanga, during a press briefing on Wednesday, said President Lungu’s statement in Southern Province recently that he will replace police with PF militia in providing public security is opening a door to chaos.

This man is deliberately heightening tension in Zambia through his violence comments and actions against people opposing his views. He is definitely not suitable as president because he seems not have sufficient experience to calm storm in the Country, instead he is in the forefront of abating violence through biased statements that in actual sense encourage PF carders to be violent e.g if the police have failed, let them allow PF carders to work, aahh. He is looking for a way to enforce a state of emergency and cancel elections till 2017 when the exchange rate will be $1 to K30 and the government will have increased the debt ceiling to K500 billion with Zambia owing $30 billion for consumption.

KK quashed coups that were being planned against him by being discrete and using state organs secretly to collect information and evidence which once taken to court built strong cases against coup plotters. I have not seen cadres putting on berets in organised societies except the army or police to extremes may be the militia, but caps and normal head gear. From a beret they will put on a military wear from there guns etc.
