Zesco beat Al Ghazala to advance in Champions League

Zesco United are through to the first round of the CAF Champions League after an away win on Friday over Al Ghazala of South Sudan in Juba.

George Lwandamina’s side beat Al Ghazala 1-0 at Juba Stadium to advance from the preliminary round 3-0 on aggregate.

And as expected by Lwandamina, Al Ghazala abandoned their ultra-defensive performance in the first leg away in Ndola on February 14 in a match they lost 2-0.

Zesco could have killed off the contest in the first half in the midst of Al Ghazala’s enterprising play.

However, striker Idriss Mbombo conjured in the 37th minute to send a sitter wide on the near post after beating two defenders including Al Ghazala goalkeeper Ajang Madut.

Jackson Mwanza then sent his effort onto the woodwork in the 41st minute before the two sides went into the break 0-0.

The winner came dead on 90m minute s when John Chingandu headed in a cross from Jackson Were after replacing Mbombo and Mwanza in the 76th and 78th minutes respectively.

Zesco match on to the first round and will host winner of Guinea club Horoya versus AS Douanes of Senegal in the first round during the weekend of March 12.

Horoya hosts Douanes on Sunday in Conakry after a 0-0 draw from the first leg played in Dakar a fortnight ago.

  1. Jesus can’t be the only way to God
There are many different religions in the world, all followed by many intelligent educated people. Isn’t it simply arrogant and narrow-minded to suggest that all of them apart from Christianity are wrong?

    Christian faith is just psychological
Christians believe in Christ largely for psychological reasons: because it comforts them, because they were brought up that way or because they are afraid not to believe in case they go to Hell.

  2. off topic you need Jesus Christ because He is the only way to God ,Acts 4 : 32 there is no other name given under heaven by which off topic should be save

  3. some people are mad how can one go astray in this manner like a mad dog. What has Jesus done in relation to George Chicken’s boys? You’re exposed so soon. Viva Zesikolo team la ziko. We are proud of you guys as Ndola residents. Keep it up!

    • In Mufulira where I grew up as did George Lwandamina it was common to have nick-names of film stars. I was nick-named “Branco” after a character in Bonanza, a western film. Others were called “Tarzan”, “Dick Tracy”, “G-man”, “Superman”, etc. George Lwandamina was named “Chicken George” after a character in “Roots” by Alex Hailey. This TV mini-series ran on TVZ. The real “Chicken George” was named so because of his involvement in the sport of cock fighting. It was a very educative mini-series on African American slavery and a rerun would not be out of place. While most of us have outgrown our nick-names “Chicken George” has stuck to Lwandamina.
