Botswana to repatriate unclaimed dead Zambian

Share

Government has advised Zambians visiting or living abroad to adhere to immigration rules in foreign countries.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Chalwe Lombe further said those planning to travel abroad should endeavor to register their presence at the nearest respective Zambian Mission.

The advice came after a Zambian woman named Idah Zulu aged 40, died in Molepolole prison in Botswana where she was detained for living in that country illegally.

Ambassador Lombe said the Government of Botswana has agreed to repatriate the body of the Zambian woman who died after an illness in November last year.

He said his ministry had made numerous appeals to the relatives of Ms. Zulu who are said to be in Livingstone, through media but none responded.

Ambassador Lombe explained that this has prompted immigration authorities in Botswana to fund the repatriation of the body from Botswana to Livingstone where local authorities may bury the body if relatives do not come forward.

Ambassador Lombe has since thanked Botswana for offering to fund the repatriation of the body.

This is according to a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Public Relations Officer Dorcas Chileshe.

  1. ”Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Chalwe Lombe…”

”Ambassador Lombe explained that this has prompted immigration authorities…”

IS THIS LOMBE BOTH OF THEESE TITLE, BA LT…???

    • typically when you are appointed Ambassador the title remains. it is possible that the PS was at one time an ambassador.

    • It’s high time LT recruited a journalist at their site. We’re tired of having to process what these scumbags write on their site. The other day they referred to Kakoma Kanganja as Dr. Kanganja. What does cadre Kanganja know about higher education??

    • This is stu.pid, she was in prison to mean the Zambian Embassy in Botswana shuld have been informed. This is sad that when things go bad, the only blame is Zambians. Please note madam Dull PS, that your embassies do nothing apart from just wasting tax payers money. they are lazy with no interest for Zambians.

It’s a shame when you would have arranged to have her deported alive??

  2. This needs to be investigated. How did she die? where is the medical report and who did it? What did the Zambian mission know about this lady? When the government of Botswana reported her death, did the Zambian mission request for all medical reports and carry out any investigation? No citizen should be left to rote in other countries. Zambian government and Botswana government should answer these questions. Treat this Zambian like you would treat a daughter of either President. If not we will followup and someone will be answerable or jailed or relationship strained in the future. The current crop of baby boomer (So called independence children are destroying our country and lacking dignity). This Zambian belonged to a country and should be treated as one.

  3. “Ambassador Lombe has since thanked Botswana for offering to fund the repatriation of the body”. She can even say this, what a shame.

  4. Nice to be back on LT
    BOTSWANA SHUD FIRST EXPLAIN
THIS PERSON WAS ARRESTED FOR ILLIGAL ENTRY ~
*DID THEY INFORM THE ZAMBIAN EMBASSY
*WAS SHE SICK AT THE TIME OF ARREST IF SO WHY WAS SHE DETAINED WITHOUT THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR GOVT
I SUSPECT SHE BADLY BEATEN & DIED IN POLICE HANDS AND KEPT THE BODY.
CUD IT BE THAT A LOT ZAMBIANS ARE KILLED IN BOTSWANA,ZIMBABWE,CONGO,RSA, AND THAT NOTHING IS BEING DONE.
ZAMBIANS COME BACK FROM THESE USELESS NATIONS THERE IS NOTHING BETTER IN THEM WHICH ZAMBIANS CAN ADMIRE NOW WE ~
DO NOT SUFFER COME WE WORK TOGETHER TO DEVELOP OUR ZED

  5. Embarrassing that Zambia cannot “afford” to repatriate the body. Surely it became clear that the person was a citizen of Zambia. What more proof did the High Commission need to take the responsibility? Always begging because our taxpayers money is reserved for the enjoyment of politicians and their immediate family members.

  6. ZAMBIAN GOVT HSA NOT FAILED TO BRING THIS BODY BACK. THERE PROCEDURES TO FOLLOW
-THIS LADY DIED IN GOVT HANDS THEY WENT TO INFORM RELATIVES IN LIVINGSTONE INSTEAD OF GOVT WHY?
-WHAT WAS THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS POSTMORTEM DONE? IF SHE DIED FROM SICKNESS WHY DETAIN A SICK PERSON TILL DEATH.
-IT APPEARS ZAMBIANS ARE ILL TREATED THERE WHY?
BOTSWANA SHUD JUST APOLOGISE ITS BAD U KEEP THE BODY FROM NOV TODAY ATI ~ NONSE

  7. Its better to comment on an issue which you are very knowledgeable on as opposed to critising with no clue on what happened to the deceased . Remember every country has laws which govern the entry and conduct of foreigners. Só Its very important for one to acquaint himself or herself with the laws of that country visa vis the circumstances under which our sister died before concluding that they mistreated her.

Further it is important to learn and understand the role of the Zambian Missions abroad as opposed to malinha assumptions of what Its role is. Foreign Missions have no free hand In meddling In their host country’s governance.
