PF deputy secretary general Mumbi Phiri has applied to contest the Munali Parliamentary seat.

Ms Phiri said in an interview with the Sunday Mail on Thursday that her decision to apply for adoption follows numerous requests from voters in the constituency.

Ms Phiri served as Munali MP between 2006 and 2011.

Incumbent MP Nkandu Luo has also indicated her intentions to seek re-adoption for the seat.

And the ruling party has extended to tomorrow the deadline for receiving applications from aspiring candidates for the August 11 general elections because of the overwhelming response.

Patriotic Front (PF) secretary general Davies Chama said in an interview yesterday that members who are yet to file in their application should take advantage of the extension period.

Mr Chama, however, cautioned aspiring candidates against engaging in premature campaigns.

“We have issued guidelines in the adoption process and we expect all members to adhere to them. I expect all members to be loyal and committed to this process,” Mr Chama said.

He said the central committee is the only organ of the party mandated to make the final decision in the adoption process.

The Patriotic Front says it will adopt 60 women to contest this year’s general elections in a move to endow the womenfolk a fair share of representation in Parliament.

The party will also award youths 30 parliamentary positions to compete for in the polls scheduled for August 11.

PF vice-chairperson for elections Kelvin Fube said it is now policy for the ruling party to award women a 40 percent adoption share of the 150 parliamentary seats to be contested for in the August general elections.

“The youths have not been left out. There is a 20 percent share,” Mr Fube said during a wom-en and youths sensitisation and fundraising dinner in Luanshya on Friday.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Chishimba Kambwili, PF Copperbelt chairperson Steven Kainga, his secretary Amon Chisenga, women provincial chairperson Hilda Kawesha and other party officials attended the dinner.

And Caroline Makasa, a member of the election sub-committee, said President Lungu has shown respect for women and wants to bring development by empowering mothers.

“President Lungu wants to bring development because women are at the centre of PF,” Ms Makasa said.

And Nathan Chanda, the Copperbelt youth chairperson called on the youth to seize the opportunity and run for elections.

  1. By the end of the day Mumbi Phiri being from Eastern will be picked, just like Dora and Vincent were given full ministerial positions at the expense of old deserving members, to save face the bemba I.d.I.o.t.s. who’s party has been hijacked will continue insulting the Tongas like Kambwili who also is likely not to be adopted was doing and has always being doing on pathetic znbc.
I pity these I.d.o.I.t.s. in this political party, they are chicken hearted and have little brains

    • @ Topcoat
You are very wrong as usual you UPND chaps! Mumbi Phiri is Bemba and only married to a Mr Phiri. PF is not tribal as your regional party where all MPs are from Southern Province.

    • @Topcat,

I see you are a demon possed filthy minded tribalist of species-beings. Whatever Eastern folks have done to your mental status, redeem yourself. FYI, Mumbi Phiri is kid sister to Professor Nkandu Luo. If you have what it takes, quit trolling senselessly instead, jump in and challenge her on the ballot period.

    • truly you are a topcat you cat.
      an embarrassment to zambia.
how will zambians vote for your ka hh with this kind of hatred for bembas that you have openly shown here.
i hope those bembas that have joined your ka upnd party read your posting and start thinking twice on what they have gotten themselves into….
we know that tongas are a mean lot and will never embrace a bemba never.
only a desperate bemba like gbm would allow himself to be used by tongas.
      me, can’t never……

    • Typical UPND supporters….every thing is about tribe..Mumbi is not from Eastern Province

      2016 vote PF ( Edgar )

      I thank you

    • Women like it fighting each other…Mumbi, why not somewhere else? Or is it PF scheme to elbow out Nkandu?

    • ooooh my God @Topcat!! and unfortunately your comment is at the “Top”,the first one for all to see!! PF is NOT a party for Bembas so don’t say “whose party has been hijacked!” No single person or ethnic group should “own” a political party as parties should be formed with a global ideology to serve all Zambians and for all Zambians! That is why PF changed leadership from Sata, a Bisa (not even Bemba as you allege) to Lungu (a Senga or Tumbuka,I don’t even know since ethnicity is never my criteria for evaluating any person for anything). Those who felt PF belonged to them as family or Bemba speakers have left and some are with UPND but remember any party formed with the philosophy of tribalism is bound to fail big time!

    • Debating simple matters! Mumbi Phiri before getting married hailed from Northern Province and by marriage the status changed to adopting her husbands origins thats Eastern Province however she still has ties to Northern Province. Logic has it that were she to be called by her creator this day and depending on strength of culture observance her resting place would most likely be the husbands village! We can only qualify what tribes we speak and probably parents origins but as generations come the demographics change. Thus Mumbi Phiri may enter her tribe as Bemba but comes from Eastern Province! Its something different as encountered in particular Serenje District where it is the husband that moves to the woman’s village.

    • @Joseph, why should tribalist give you a negative mark when it’s a fact that Mumbi isn’t from the east?

    • @itizi turu:
Never mind – mayi Tasinta is still young – she still has nice looks and round bum! She will join her friends and I look forward to picking up on Addis Ababa Drive when parliament is dissolved!!
Without Ambi or Skin lightening creams, Mumbi looks like a man – look at the long jaws, muscles, and squashed boobs!!

  2. UPND wants to campaign on tribe. How do u call bembas *****s.I know inside my heart some tongas hate bembas.UPND will never win because of such pipo like topcat.U can’t understand them really. For them it’s PF is hijacked and bembas no longer have shares.U can’t campaign on tribe imwe fi UPND.Ifwe ni PF.Pamaka.HH with such pipo he’ll never win. We’ll tell our pipo to vote against hh coz u don’t love bembas ba UPND.Viva lungu.ci GBM balecibofya but teti tuvote HH

  3. PF is now officially discriminating against older, wiser, mature and experienced men. The consequences are dire! Instead of being fair and open to equality irrespective of Age, Gender, Ethnicity, PF are openly discriminatory!!
Please, especially Older and Mature men – take note of this and in your HUGE numbers, on 11 August vote out the PF! THEY DON’T RESPECT YOU; THEY DON’T WANT YOU and THEY OPENLY DISCRIMINATE AGAINST YOU!! Use your vote and GET RID OF PF!!

  4. mumbi phiri & nkandu luo has all failed in mtendere for the past 10yrs if you urgue come to c-section and see it for yourself no drainages briges between mtendere kalikiliki and maplot

  5. THE WATCHDOG DID NOT LIE WHEN IT MENTIONED THAT MUMBI WAS GOING TO APPLY TO CONTEST THAT SEAT. LOL NOW THEY ARE TRYING TO OUTVOTE EACH OTHER. MUMBI NEEDS TO BE A M P SO SHE CAN BECOME A MINISTER BY CHAGWA HENCE RUN FOR THE RUNNING MATE, SIMPLE.

  6. Zambia is ours! Thanks for the observation, no Bemba has ever ruled Zambia, Kaunda a tumbuka from karonga, Chiluba Chishinga from luapula an sata a bisa from mpika. Lungu is nsenga from petauke, sengas are from Chama district, they speak a concoction of Namwanga, tumbuka thus the name senga meaning borrowed.

  7. The end of PF, all MPs are coming from eastern province. This is now MMD ruling us. We need to keep them in august fellow Zambians.

Our country need upright and responsible leaders! As this PF house seems to be very divided hence failing our beautiful Zambia!!!!!!

  8. Mumbi Phiri as a Zambian has all rights to contest for any position. However, can we be told things that matter: her educational background, professional background and real achievements! The name, Mumbi Phiri is not enough!

  9. I thot vice secretary is more senior than ministrial position. HE why didnt you meet luo and mumbi? Much as we appreciate democracy Mumbi and luo will promote division.

  10. I surely smell a rat here. Kambwili is unlikely quiet. Not even a single comment against GBM.Dog eat Dog about to start.

  11. Topcat.. am sure you always have loose bowels when you hear about Bembas. You gotta get smart to understand them you mutilated cow dung!!

  12. Munali is surely not for one family. Non of the two Mumbi and Nkandu can win this seat. We are so happy that our own son and Brother: Mayor Mike Mposha is in the contest. He has our votes.
