THE Bemba Royal Establishment (BRE) did not sanction Chief Munkonge’s visit to United Party for National Development (UPND) vice-president for administration Geoffrey Mwamba, who is in detention at Lusaka Central Police Station.

Mr Mwamba was arrested on Friday for allegedly proposing violence in connection with a statement he made last Wednesday that he would go for President Lungu’s throat.

Police say the statement breaches the law to assemblies as contained in section 91(1) a and b of the penal code.
In an interview yesterday, BRE spokesperson James Mulenga said they did not want to get involved in discussing Mr Mwamba’s court cases.

He said the BRE was not aware of Chief Munkonge’s visit to Mr Mwamba and that he must have done so because the UPND vice-president is a son of the Munkonges.

“As the BRE, we are not aware of Chief Munkonge’s visit and we do not have any intentions of discussing Mr Mwamba’s issues because, as you know, court issues are very sensitive,” Mr Mulenga said.

He was reacting to Chief Munkonge’s sentiments at Lusaka Central Police Station where he said that he was visiting Mr Mwamba as an emissary of the Chitimukulu to establish why the UPND vice-president was in detention.

This was after chiefs Munkonge and Mukuni of the Ila people of Southern Province visited Mr Mwamba.

“I came to see GBM my son. I was sent by the Chitimukulu and the Bemba Royal Establishment. We want to know what he has done that he should be arrested,’’ Chief Mukonge said in an interview yesterday.

He said he was tasked by Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people to travel to Lusaka and ascertain reports of GBM having been arrested.

“I have visited him and seen for myself that he is in police custody. I will take the report to Chief Chitimukulu,’’ Chief Munkonge.

    • In a country of laws and not men, there is no exception to prosecuting thuggery worse still that has on record an indellible public vow to willfully exterminate the life of a fellow human being. Mwamba is a vicious GBV criminal and has wittingly said he will take-off the head of a republican Prersident. Hope not thinking our president is another Mwenso’s daughter he willfully batters near to death. You never know with these Matero University Graduates accredited for running mates degrees only.

    • james mulenga is a PF cadre naimwe,,,,,, respect the chitimukulu and BRE, they dont make statement to please cadres,,,,, wait and see, come august we are going for the throat

    • That was expected – the Chitimukulu still thinks Edgar can send him back to the tents he used to live in during his disputed ascension to the throng. So full of denials!
Meanwhile, the damage has already been done. Edgar’s image has been damaged further and he’s knocking right at the exit door. VIVA UPND!!

    • cut (someone’s) throat
To bring about or be the cause of someone’s ruin, downfall, or failure. That discount supermarket is cutting our throats, there’s no way we can compete with their prices! Jim set out to cut his brother’s throat after finding out that he’d been swindled.

    • why refuting statements made by the chief, disclaimers after every statement made. What was the point of going after the spokes person when a chief is more senior than a spokes person of BRE. PF is playing dangerous games!

    • Gbm was campaigning at full throttle and made a cut throat remark about decampaining lungu. He is taking the bull by the horns!

Next day, Gbm is arrested for cutting the throat of Lungus bulls and taking (stealing) the horns!

    • Kikikikikiki, yaba. In America an Egyptian student is facing deportation for posting on his facebook page that he was willing to kill Donald Trump and the world would thank him.

    • Now we subjects have come to know that Chief Mukonge is a liar. Is this what the BRE want us to believe that Chief Mukonge is a lying Chief? I do not think this is the right approach by BRE. I hope this statement by a Mr Mulenga has no blessings of chitmukulu
Also I did predict this yesterday see my comment on the article titled “Chief Mukonge and Chief Mukuni visit GBM in prison”

    • @1.10 I AGREE WITH YOUR PREDICTION YESTERDAY. I THINK I READ SOMETHING LIKE THE CHITIMUKULU WILL WRITE AN ARTICLE DENYING HAVING SENT CHIEF MUNKONG. I ALSO THOUGHT CHITIMUKULU IS EDUCATED ENOUGH. HE ALWAYS ANALYSES ISSUES BEFORE MAKING ANY COMMENT(S). SO, HE MAY NOT WISH TO BE BELITTLING HIMSELF WITH ONE GBM WHO JUST IN THE FIRST PLACE STARTED HIS CHAIN OF MISTAKES BY JOINING UPND WHICH HAS BEEN PUBLICLY ANNOUNCED FOR TONG SPEAKING PEOPLE ONLY. HH ENJOYS THIS TONGA THING HE WAS STILL GOING TO FIND A WAY OF SMOKING OUT/DOWN BA KAPANGA NA BA KOLWE FROM THEIR TUNNELS AND TREE-BRANCHES TO MAINTAIN THE QUOTA.

    • I knew it. Chief Munkonge and GBM are relatives. Next will be another relative chief Mpepo visiting in the pretext of representing the BRE

    • Ba SC muzilemba cabe cibemba; cizungu cakanga!
Why do you always want to sound like mpombo? Bu puba nga ta mwaishiba.

  1. When people are intimidated about having their own opinions, oppression is at hand. Jimmy Carter

    • I listened to this man on radio one thing he said which LT is leaving out is that in fact the BRE and Chitimukulu were not even aware of this case and GBMs arrest it had just come to his attention post Chief Mukonges visit ….Now is this really an honest man. Maybe he was looking for cheap Mealie Meal in Kasama as all this was happening

  2. Stories we read on line are always twisted that’s why I find it hard to comment intellectually. We read wrong stories and end up commenting with misplaced comments. Other false stories we read include govt is broke, Ecl is visionless,pf is doing nothing. I edge all of you especially kids from Upnd to critically analyze stories before rushing to insults. The worst and dangerous media is zwd because they just manufacture stories and post them based on rumors mongers.

  3. I knew the disclaimer would come. And Chief Munkonge did not say he was sent by Bashi Lubemba but by Chitimukulu Manga. And ba LT, Chief Mukuni is of the Toka Leya speaking people; not the Ila!

    • It is a notorious fact that we are in an electioneering period. That Edgar Lungu’s PF and HH’s UPND are the major protagonists is common cause.

To ascend to the Presidency is a function of the vibrancy and strength of one’s sponsoring political party. And so when you strangle one’a throat politically, you damage the standing and fortunes of the sponsoring political party.

Lungu is in a political contest, not withstanding that he currently occupies the Presidency. There is every legitimate reasons for his political opponents to go for his throat; to choke his ability to bounce back or win an election. That is the essence of any democratic election : go for the throat!!

    • @Kolikota if it was HH who said those words, I could agree with you but then it is GBM and GBM is not standing against Lungu, so how does he say “I will go for your throat”?

  4. I knew the disclaimer would come. And Chief Munkonge did not say he was sent by Bashi Lubemba but by Chitimukulu Manga. And ba LT, Chief Mukuni is of the Toka Leya speaking people; not the Ila! Lastly, we all know that what GBM used is an idiom.

    • What idiom iwe? There is a video of the man telling cadres about “ukubaponona” meaning beating them up, so that they see who is the toughest between him and them, “Tukamone umukali ninani pali ine na bena.” Whatever you wish to defend is fine but some of us do love our country and will do not want to see violence, neither are we interested in voting into power people who threaten violence. What is wrong with using peaceful idioms and intelligent arguments?

  5. its a criminal offence threatening someone with murder regardless of you maybe. GBM went too far by saying he will go for the throat of a sitting president and to me that was inmature looking at his level he deserves to be arrested.

    • What is murderous about “going for somebody’s throat”? That’s why Bemba MPs just speak and insult in Bemba in Parliament. We have to admit that we will never understand how to use English correctly. Bya kuwanena mu bukulunu.
      #ChagwaMustFall

  6. This man is dull what are fighting for presidence-u have no G12,mp u have no G 12, councillor u have no G 12, money u have,vihecles u have, nice wife u have,children u have,
What more do u want from God?
Are U Not Happy That U Have O These U want to kill pipo indirect and direct?
#Use what GOD has blessed u with to bless others not to kill others u regret at one point these materials can be brown by wind and u remain like adam.
Hitler was here, musolin was here, idi amini, mobutu, kamuzu, etc do u hear money left by them or children enjoying father s money.
Leave a good name and yo children will enjoy a gud name even without money.
Do not fight if yo friend wants give in for the sake of pipo s peace i like what presidential hopefulls did in pf they all gave in to support one person…

  7. All this hullabaloo for an intellectually inept and emotionally immature overweight wife beating violent thug who for once is in the cage where he belongs! HH should be more discerning about the company he keeps.

  8. I was wondering as to how bamunkonge and mukuni agreed to meet at central police when these two come from different religion. My other concern is what happens to bashilubemba when bashimwamba rejoins PF or joins another party? Thankyou BRE for telling the world the truth. UPND lets help GBM not destroying him.

  9. GBM is munkombwe in 3D version. Unlike munkombwe who only managed to make HH lose, GBM will not only make HH lose but also sink him and make him extinct on the political arena. Thanx GBM.

    • Take it from me, all politicians go for each other’s “throat”.

You can win unless you place hard ball. You go for the balls and then the throat. You politically asphyxiate your opponent.

That is the way of the political game which is adversarial in nature. So when you say I will “strangle”, “annihilate”, “wipe out”, “bomb”, “crucify”, “dismantle”, “eradicate”, “retire”, “rout”, “beat”, “humiliate”, “overrun”, “bury” and many such idioms you speak with gusto of your political fortunes or head wind against your opponents.

No crime; no malice afore thought just political hot air!

    • ….you can’t hope to win unless you play hard ball and talk tough….it’s part of the political war and scare mongering game….the huff and puff of political pundits….and so when a contender says he will whip his opponent or squeeze his balls or wrestle him into a pin fall, we all understand the simple meaning that one wishes to prevail politically!

Nothing above falls within the meaning of assault let alone battery contemplated by parliament in the Penal Code, Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

If such idioms are penalized then we shall see the end of political contest! How else can one best the incumbent other than strangling him for him to let go of the reins of power?!

    • HH techilema you don’t that this year is one family reloaded. One Zambia for one better economy for all.HH a program.

  10. Tayali (2016) I think if HH realized that many Zambians eat monkeys and not beef, he would take pictures of himself eating a head of a monkey. Tongas dont love Bembas they are just using you to win elections becoz they know you as dull and not educated tribe. HH knowing that Bembas are the majority he wants to be best Bemba

    • kasabwe pliz wy dont u stop bringing tribes in your foolish comments. If you don’t have better things to say, humbly dear just let it go.

    • You will die with hate coupled with tribalism. For us tribe is nothing but we want whats best for our country. So gogo GBM and HH! We want some one to fix our economy. Our income is not making sense at all.

    • @bakabuswe mule kwatako insoni ,the same old stories of Bemba -Tonga bla bla .We are in a modern Zambia were inter mariages have occurred what are going to do with us youths like Mwansa Mudenda or Natasha Munkombwe. We are the majorit.Abashi stone age politics. Its one family reloaded. One Zambia one better economy.HH a program chabe.twafwa kunsala no job.Ba lungu na ba filwa beka.

  11. So Frank Bwalya was right afterall. It was just a compassionate visit .nothing sanctioned. TODAY is monday, the scenario will be like this the arresting officer will dilly dally abit even disappear here and there and only show up after 1700hrs and tomorrow is a holiday. This means Fat albert will sleep. Again in the choocks today and tomorrow and will only go to court on wednesday. Boma ni Boma

  12. Is gbm the only son of Bembaland!? He is a disgrace to the Bemba clan.
Wait and see how wisely we vote in August. We are bigger and a better people than one useless gbm

  13. How can we believe your hallucinations LT? We heard chief Mukonge speaking. And to prove that this reporter is a PF cader who rants without proof, we will put him in his rightful conner: CHIEF MUKUNI IS NOT FOR THE ILA PEOPLE. How does caderism make you so dull huh?

  14. Ba Lusaka Times were beneficiaries to Presidential slash fund to give to the media so that they report issues in favour of the Gov’t….. The Chief WAS sent. Stop misleading us.

    • Ba UPND saaaaaa……shoooooo….go for the throat of Edgar Lungu’s visionless version of PF! Strangle them with their high kaloba Eurobonds , mealie meal shortage and it’s unaffordable price, high soap and sugar and groceries prices in shoprite and other supermarkets, corruption, theft and abuse of authority!

  15. Are we to think that the Bemba Royal Establishment is now perfecting and overtaking ECL at the art of flipflopping

  16. Mark my word.
The worst is still coming for GBM when his Tonga CLUB does not adopt him as RM of HH as indications are already showing. Even the little respect and support he is currently enjoying in his own family and from his so called Bemba strong hold will dissipate.

  17. MMEMBE, the proprietor of the POST lies newspaper goes to the police station past visiting hours to see someone whom he is now calling his relative or defense a lawyer…..???

When he is advised to come back at 2 or during visiting hours, he goes back at 15.50hrs, 2 hours late.

Our police, like anywhere in the world treats lawyers with respect. They have guidelines, a lawyer who wants to visit a client must produce an ID. Mmembe had none ON HIM.

Today he writes, “Police stop M’membe from seeing GBM and to join his defense team!!”.

Since when did Mmembe become a practicing lawyer? Did he go there just to create news for his newspaper.

    • @Luapula Premier, Do you know that Mmembe holds a law degree? Do you know that Mmembe is admitted to the Bar? With those qualifications Mmembe can join a defence team and can practice law in Zambia like everybody else who has similar qualifications.

  18. BRE. When I saw this I thought it was the Barotse Royal Establishment. Since when did Bashilubemba start using the BRE initials? Don’t they use LTC i.e. Lubemba Traditional Council?

    • What, pray, is so special about the initials BRE???
      – CalBRE = California Bureau of Real Estate
      – BRE = Bryan Research and Engineering
      – BRE = Building Research Establishment
      – BRE = Barotse Royal Establishment
      – BRE = @bre, a twitter handle…
      Say what….????

  19. in zambia as long as u dont want the president anything said by opposition is gud even if opposition says that feaces a gud lets eat they can o support honestly how can u support a life threatener to a sitting president? its high time u start differenting a predent and an opposition leader. cage the culprit and let him start continue threatening his wife

  20. Imagine, two tribal chiefs from different parts of the country both converging in one place to see a villain of a ‘subject’ at the same time.
What a coincidence! How did they time their visit? Who paid for their travel? Who alerted the news houses?
It was clear, the chiefs were being made to play fools game.

  21. Imagine, two tribal chiefs from different parts of the country both converging in one place to see a villain of a ‘subject’. How did they time their visit? Who paid for their travel? Who alerted the news houses? Surely the chiefs were being made to play fools game.

  22. THAT COULD BE THE PF SAY. LT HAS BECOME A SUPPORTER OF PF AND WE DO NOT KNOW HOW THESE PF WILL DO BECAUSE WHETHER OR NOT ALL THE CHIEFS HAVE SEEN THE INTIMIDATION BEHIND IT.

  23. Surely the Zambia police do not have people who know English. Check the dictionary and you will see a lot of sayings dealing with throat. The international community is laughing at Zambians as people who do not understand English sayings. Twasebana bane

  24. I agree with you Zedian. BRE should be used by Baroste Royal Establishment not Bemba Royal Establishment. There are very few Bembas in Zambia some just use the Bemba dialect, Lambas, Lala, Bisa, Aushi, Swakas, Chishinga’s Tambwe’s. Its only abena Chisali who are the real Bemba’s. Abena Nevers Mumba, who are the true Bembas. ebena chipeku, inkaka shabulanda. Stop misleading people let the BRE be used by the Lozi’s in western province. Hope BRE was registered by the registrar of societies. who wouldn’t have allowed using same acronyms.

  25. It is only myopic chiefs from the north and south who would show solidarity to someone with a violence track record like GBM. I hear, the venerable Gawa Undi doesn’t indulge in cheap politics like what these puppets of chiefs have displayed here. They must be very careful otherwise they might end up a laughing stock. Chief Mukuni, why sink so low?

  26. BRE COME OUT YOU ARE DOUBLE TONGUED I WISH ONE SAID I WLL GO FOR CHITIMUKULU’S THROAT AND LET THE BRE SMILE AT SUCH THREATS

    • Ba Monica te threat iyo… coming for your throat is not a threat… wait and see what the courts will say… Your Edgar will be disappointed… Research and see what that idiom means

  27. Useless symbolism. By now you should know that nobody is above the law, Chief, King, Prince or Princess… just take a leaf from this Dalindyebo in SA who is now serving, deservedly, a sentence he almost weaseled out of. Why are we still paying attention to Chiefs when it is so clear it is so yesterday?? Leave all that out of justice and politics for JC’s sakes!!!!

  28. The Chitimukulu does not have significant influence on the voting patterns of the people of Northern Province. It is no secret that Northern Province is still a PF stronghold especially in the rural parts. The UPND should focus on gaining significant ground in Lusaka and Copperbelt in order to effectively challenge the PF on August 11.

  29. We spend so much time on trivial issues in this country. Chief Munkonge visits a person in prison and we all make a big issue out of it. How I wish the people of Zambia would react the same way to issues really affecting the country. Cholera cases are increasing and drainages are not working, poverty is looming, our two public universities have been disrupted and here we are arguing about who sent who and who did not sanction what and so fourth. Bushe kwena twalikwata amano and what do we want for this country really. It seems to me that we always want to have trivial arguments and dirty smearing.

  30. @ The Observor: I agree with you 100%. We seem to divert attention to not very important news leaving out important news which affect majority of Zambians eg escalating mealie meal prices, cholera cases, load shedding, poverty, corruption, unprecedented infrastructure development by PF and related costs etc. We would like to have a balanced view of what is happening in Zambia.

  31. Zambians you make me laugh..surely ba GBM today is the saviour of UPND when yesterday was a laughingstock and fool. Frankly speaking if GBM was to stand as MP in Kasama central today, he will cant win that is the fact.
    Thank you

  32. Again as I said in the other thread, Zambia is using borrowed language they have little comprehension to persecute each other. I’m surprised they are taking the words literally.

Context is everything… if someone has physically hit you and you speak the language, then yes the words might literally mean choking. But these are political ‘enemies’.

Have you ever heard a statement: “these two are all over each other’s throats”?

What about “going for the jugular, going for the throat; smells fishy, sweeping dirty under the carpet, dropping ton of bricks over one’s head”?.

Context and please learn some English language idioms.

  33. Have to agree with the sentiments that ‘BRE’ to mean ‘Bemba Royal Establishment’ sounds unoriginal and copycat. Knowing how long the Barotse Royal Establishment have been using the acronym ‘BRE’ dating back to the pre colonial days, I reckon the Chitimukulu should have come up with something different to avoid confusion. No the BRE don’t have intellectual property rights to the acronym but any mention of it is usually associated with the Barotseland royalists.

    • There is no problem to have two establishments using the same acronym, the most important thing is to make it clear when writing for other to read. The problem nowadays is that our uneducated journalists write to confuse the reader instead of writing to inform and maybe educate the readers. There are many similar acronyms that mean totally different things, but it is just important to stick to the topic and present it correctly for the reader to understand.

  34. Such action by police shows that Zambia is a primitive society where freedom of speech has no value. In Western world such statement by GBM wouldn’t have made headlines at all.Let us be in tuned with USA debates by presidential hopeful and see how civilized our friends are.Let’s evolve from “proconsul-zinjathropus generation.

  35. Ba Munkonge’ does not report to Mulenga, Mulenga is iginorant, about the whole issues, wait for abena Lubemba, to comment , he is an engineer by profession, if you don’t know. They arrived and reported already to chitimukulu. Chitimukulu, wants proof
