Can you talk about women in Zambian music without mentioning Angela Nyirenda?
What about Anna Mwale, Muriel Mwamba, Jane orsborne , Angela Nyirongo.
Hahahaha Kay Figo hitting the list also? Please next time compile a more serious list, not these chaps who sing one funny childish song and they disappear!
The world needs to hear the African woman’s song.
Not this current holy shyt!! Every thing to it has a western rythme.
Real Zambian music is distinct and holy Zambian.
The list should have started with Dorothy Masuka. No other songwriter male or female has made an international impact as her writing Pata Pata for Miriam Makeba. Also the power of writing liberation songs and good quality music with the likes of Hugh Masekela. When she toured she was mainstream unlike those current ones performing to Zed audiences abroad in small venues. Out of this lot Maureen has also given it a good shot with even orchestral performances abroad. Pity you didn’t show that video. Also the new kid Yvonne is likely to break barriers. The gospel ladies from the churches, however, should start to tap in the billion dollar gospel market as they have both the voices and disciplined performances to put Zed on the map. The genuine ones at any rate. More women in technology…
… Ladies do not be afraid of become creative technology experts and brushing up on musician skills so you ultimately produce yourselves and change the landscape with new sounds. Happy Women’s Day!
… do not be afraid of becoming…ugh my phone is trying to type for me!!!
100% concur with A Phiri.
This list is biased, unresearched and not worthy the title. Obviously compiled by Some young western(Zambian music influenced) type who has no idea what constitute Zambian music.
